that time when the dad of someone in a band died and they put a story on the nme site saying "our dad's died - buy our single!"
How many did you buy?
Then again, you can get to number seven in the proper charts with about 200 copies sold these days, so these things are to be expected.
i know bands who've got in the indie chartzzzz with those kind of sales.
But of the indie charters, only Travis made the overall Top 200 (at #115) :(

It's the only way to guarantee a 100+ reply-thread.
In their own words (srsly)...........
Formed in a ramshackle building at the side of a railway track a few years ago.
A young man enters an audition lyrics at the ready, a then heavy drinking piano player raises his weary eyes on hearing the tones, calls him by several names and plays the rest of the audition in quiet contemplation.
On completion and acceptance of the job, the offer of a lift is accepted.
The two musicians are now alone and music and songs are discussed. The older of the two a prolific songwriter offers to make him a Rockstar.
A week or so passes and contact is minimal, a few rehearsals playing cover versions takes place which turns into a 15 month touring stint culminating in playing to over a thousand unsuspecting people in one show.
All the while an underlying calling is pulling the young talented spiritual guitarist towards his roots; original music.
The band splinters leaving just four members, three kindred spirits and a singer.

Haha, that's brilliant! I want to play to an unsuspecting crowd of thousands.
I might invite them all along, set up a stage, then sneak up and play behind them. That'll catch the unsuspecting blighters out, won't it...
"CRAINE are a band from Sheffield who are utterly different to the current "indie" bands who for some aparent reason pride themselves on not wanting to be big. With their spine tingling melodic rock epics and sing along anthems they are already creating a stir across the globe. This band must be one of the only unsigned bands who even have their own web-based PR team who work hard promoting the name of CRAINE. The five amazing guys, Ccat, Steve, Scott, Jordan and Dan all have the same aim and passion, their drive for global recognition alone would take them all the way but add to that the fact that they are one of the best live bands to have surfaced in recent years it is evident that it is only a matter of time till CRAINE is the name on everybody's lips!"
It's like a press release from Spinal Tap's epic rock cousins..
Teddy Picker is still there after a year or so? So Craine must've sold like 50 copies?
the Craine PR is quite toned-down from when they first started bothering people. I don't usually say bad things about bands but this lot are bloody awful & have a terrible attitude, too. I expect they'll go far...
referring to, though??
Like the Provisional CRAINE PR and the Real CRAINE PR?
