but maybe the shit you heard
he/she meant the first post.
He said 'you' though.
no it doesn't
I prefer American and Swedish chiptune.
we're puttung some of the swedes up in autumn in london
I'll keep an eye out.
London date being added to the Chiptune Alliance tour? Really want to see Anamanaguchi.
there are a lot of 8bc people in london who are organize=ing something soon.
it's a bit difficult after the london micromusic hq fallout
Where do I start to try and enjoy tetris bleeps?
dj scothc egg is the reason people say chiptune sucks.
I'd say he's one of the few people making original chiptune music. I had a flick through the 8bp website and ended up downloading about 5 albums that sounded exactly the same (with the exception of Anamanaguchi who sound like an 8-bit Dragonforce).
he's a bandwagon jumper...and makes up for rather uninspiring tunes with stage antics.
i know what;s he's *trying* to do...but people like overthruster do it better..
but i agree with you about the micromusic/8bps style..apart from crazy q above or stu..they are pretty bland.
dj scotch isn't much more cop in my opinions
Other good Artists
and obviously Bit Shifter and Nullsleep
Very much so
I'm downloading Chiptune Wars as I type
is the shit.
He's back. Making more electro centric stuff now.
New track 'Black Dragon' is absolutly amazing.
still claim to have invented chiptune?
It really does.
i've made quite a lot of music that could vaguely be described as 8bit or whatever, because i like the sounds, but i don't get how it exists as its own genre, apart from novelty crap and people deliberately cheesifying their music by refusing to use different/more interesting synths
chiptune is a method as well as sound.
I don't 'get' people who use cubase or albeton live to make '8bit tunes',
which is the majority of the 'cool' 8 bit people you hear about..
o nthe other extreme you have people who thin kthey invented gameboy music making shit music on nanoloop but milking the novelty factors.
What defines real chiptune is are square waves (mostly) with effects and interesting rhythms due to them beign made on tracker....liek step sequencing...it has a very unique sound...because everythign is locked into 4/4 the different ways to get swing on chipmusic makes it sound unique...
and re: tracker its just overly quantised? or what? it still seems like people making whatever genre of music and deliberately limiting themselves for novelty
yes, they are very rigid i nquantisation..but that limitation has created some effects that have becoem popular in wider electronica..
for example the stuttering machine gun effects used in breakcore...
I for one just love the gritty bass sounds of the ym chip.
one major difference is that on real hardware making a waveform has real effects o nteh chip
in software on a pc yo ucan creat cool sounds
but peopel like stu or bitshifter maek soundscan push the soundchip o for sts or gameboys that push the sound chip 'over the edge' creatign unheard of effects.
for example making the playbakc of a sounds speed 300 herts for a chip that can only handle 50
also, on one of my sonds i had one track in that hada repeatign appregio, the other had a low bass sound sliding up a note...if i did that on a vst ..i would just have two sperate sounds...bass note and an appregio.
but because the ym cant mix two contrasting voices like that it creates a freaky acid sound that cannot be created any other way.
so it can be very 'physical' and interactive
im in a rush
Saw henryhomesweet and sabrepulse a few months back at The Peel and it was pretty amazing.
Suggestions on gig gigs/events?
and I'll announce here when I update
