1. K, Rip It Off is definitely my favourite album so far this year now. TNV vs. Yo La Tengo makes me glow.
3. At least I'm reliable.
4. Courtesy of Mr. M-I-E, thanks for the link to this, so much.
5. Undecided on their album so far. Dance Music is a great track. Pringle's vocals on Cutlery Drawer are alluring but the lyrics are shite. And some tracks verge upon electronic noodling.
9.ii. I've been watching their last show ever on YouTube all this week. Go and watch it.

Wonderful Rainbow is a... err... wonderful album
Listen to it more!
Also, which Menomena album would you recommend? Last.fm regularly recommends them to me and I haven't got round to listening/purchasing anything yet.
there latest one's
probably their most accessible (and the one which makes up the number my last.fm chart there). So yeah, get Friend & Foe. I don't own but have borrowed before and enjoyed very much I Am The Fun Blame Monster also

Beulah!
I was considering buying a Beulah album earlier this week. Which out of 'Handsome Western States' and 'When Your Heartstrings Break' would you suggest I get?
Or one of the other ones.
But those were the two that I was tempted by.
Handsome Western States is one of my favourite albums of all time
TAKE THAT AS YOU WILL.
3/5 yeah?
I'm eagerly awaiting that Tiger Bear Wolf album.
Obvs 3/5
Did I tell you to listen to 3/5 that time you said Les Savy Fav knew what it meant to be a rock band but didn't quite have it pinned down on record, leading to you listening to it and agreeing it's by far their best album, or were you already familiar with it?
I am already familiar with it
I think it's probably their most consistent. I might prefer The Cat and The Cobra though. Not sure.
Why do they never play Les Savy Fav on the radio?
I'm going to make a note of listening to at least two of their albums this week
I don't really use Last FM
So I'll just say what I've been listening to recently:
Wild Beasts
The Acorn
Kurt Wagner (unreleased solo album-Cor Blimey!)
Songs of Green Pheasant
Miracle Fortress
Ralfe Band
Fleet Foxes
Broken Family Band
Jonquil
Micah P Hinson
I am not going to do this
because not only do I not look at anyone elses, but I don't think anyone else does either.
People do look at them, trust me
I know I certainly do.

You're right about Altar
It's a magical magical album.

1 Once you've accepted the conditions under which that whole dark/light thing works, The Beautiful Light is a really good and interesting summer album. Well done, Thee SPC. You are breeding them well.
2 There's a live set linked from his Myspace. I'm coming round to thinking Ben Parker might be my favourite new singer-songwriter.
3 Starting to see them mentioned as an influence a lot, so revisited The Noise Made By People and it's as special as it was on release. Hope there's a new album soon.
4 "Oh for god's sake, burn it down!" Kevin's been promising a new album called It's OK Johanna for about two years now, the workshy fop.
5 It's probably slightly galling to think this, but Actress Hands songs delivered as Lee Hazlewood-esque stripped back beauties > Actress Hands songs delivered as Actress Hands songs. (Wonder if they're still together now Phil Sumner is perma-touring with BSP, actually)
6 Object 47 is their fifth best album, I say.
7 Can't work out whether I really like the album or feel underwhelmed yet, which I know sounds odd but I suspect I'm far from alone.
8 Someone's got to do a South London Indie-Folk Family Tree before long.
9 Album in the autumn, allegedly. What is it, three years sine their first couple of singles?
10 Inspired by finding the Tiny Toon Adventures versions on YouTube.
re. 2: have you got all the Tempertwig/Nosferatu d2 stuff?
Not yet
but I'm planning to.
I can hook you up if you want.
(y)
could you hook me up with the Nosferatu d2 stuff as well pls?
x
sure thing.
will upload now...
(actually, I think the N d2 'album' might be free on last.fm too. Checkit!)

2. FANXALOTT KID_A. Super rad.
3. Top 5 favourite albums of the year thus far.
4. Luke Wyland is a genius and a beautiful man.
5. Got depressed a bit, listened to the first MM album, pretended I'd just broken up with Lauren Laverne, felt a bit better about having once gone out with Lauren Laverne.
6. Pretty.
9. Someone recommended them in an Abe Vigoda thread. I didn't much like it.
10. Still the best band in the world.
Was Why? any good?
Sorry, I just wanted to put two exclamation marks in one sentence and CHALLENGE THE CONVENTIONS OF GRAMMAR. I'm such a punk.
He was.
But I was also pretty drunk/in the mosh pit with Laura Wolf.
'drunk'?!?!?
is this the whole 'straight edge' thing again?
xggggx
(yes)
I saw Morgan the other day. What a great story that is.
So, basically...
I once claimed to be straightedge for a weekend to ease a journalist. Is the gist of it.
PM me about what on earth Morgan had to say, please?
*tease
I thought you were replacing please with tease there for a minute
heartstopping moments.
So Kickball are good then?
Someone else was mentioning them a lot this week... Ibzo, I think.
Super, super good.
Jigga defintely got more plays than that..

Nig Heist are amazing.
Nig Heist
is some dumb shit, right?! The lyrics are so laughably bad, its amazing. I'm still annoyed Clockcleaner cancelled their UK tour.
They're just absolutely and completely vile
Hardcore taken to the lowest common denominator.
You know "mugger", the guy mentioned in the Black Flag chapter of Our Band Could Be Your Life who eats dog food, was their lead singer?
I stumbled upon his myspace profile:
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=35747600
Some the quotes in his about me are gold.
I knew he was the ex-Flag roadie
but I'd not seen his myspace profile before, its hilarious! You've probably read it, but there's some great bits about him & Nig Heist in Stephen Blush's American Hardcore book.
That track where he's asking the girls to strip for him while he sings is really, really grim
I was about to mention that.
Where's mug_mug_mug?
He'd be loving this shit, and he'd probably post a link to Siege.
This is great
"I did not think Rob was gay, we used have sleep overs as kids. Maybe I was not his type, or he was opportunistic."
He clearly has no illusions about his band either: "I started the band Nig-Heist, and produced a really bad record"
It's kinda cool at the end where he went back to college and now teaches and stuff. But sort of hard to believe. Hardcore sold out.
The thought of mugger teaching
is strange and confusing. But also great! Definitely a good guy to go for a pint with.
Isn't Lyle Presslar from Minor Threat a really succesful lawyer nowadays, having formerly worked for some really big record label? It'd be good to have a definitive 'where are they now' list of various early 80's hardcore luminaries.

Like totally fucking yeah
Look, my number 1) and 2) use the same numbers, but in reverse order. How rad.
1) Minutemen 96
2) Dinosaur Jr. 69
3) Comets on Fire 57
4) Jawbox 39
5) Brand New 31
6) The Nation of Ulysses 27
7) Ghostface 26
7) The Dandy Warhols 26
7) El-P 26
10) Madvillain 24
10) Saul Williams 24
2) Mostly "Where You Been?". Sorely underrated in my opinion. On The Way is my of my favourite Mascis tracks.
3) Preparation for their gig last night. They were rad and CHRIS MOTHERFUCKIN' CORSANO. Ethan Miller has amazing facial hair- think Earl from My Name Is Earl with added mutton chops.
4) I got "For Your Special Sweetheart" off emusic. It's really good, like everything on dischord. For fans of Unwound and Drive Like Jehu.
5) Guilty pleasure. Deja Entendu is a modern classic in the making, I think.
7)c) ALL AROUND THE WORLD TODAY, THE KILO IS THE MEASURE. Very happy with this album, except the lame number with Neyo.
Comets was great fun
I dug out Blue Cathedral today, still the best thing they've done by a mile. Avatar sounds like Elton John, and not in a good way!
So much love for Ghost. That album is genius. PARANOID AS A MOTHERFUCKER RIGHT HERE!!
Field Recordings From The Sun is the metaphorical SHIT in my opinion
I quite like Avatar though the production is a bit limp. The songs sounded better live. Sad not to bump into you at The Lumi actually, but a little birdie tells me you're going to Mudhoney, so mebbe I'll see you there?
Is any of the other Ghost stuff worth buying?
Yep I'm going to Mudhoney
Lizzy's been hassling me about getting a ticket, I really need to do that soon.
I'm a big Ghostface Killah fan, so I'd say all of it, but in particular you might want to get hold of Ironman and Supreme Clientele. Ironman in particular is absolutely brilliant.
7)c)
You are very right. But what's with last.fm insisting on tagging him as Ghostface all the time? I swear he has Killah on the front of all of his albums...?
I know :(
Neyo completely killed that album for me the first time round.
"wow this is amazing"
"wow, this is fucking incredible"
"shit, is that Neyo?"
Which Nation of Ulysses were you listening to Phil?
The Nation of Ulysses must prevail!
Erm, I like 13 point programme best
So it was most likely that.
I like Plays For Pretty Baby as well (I bought it at the same time actually), but it's not as immediate and I need to be in a different mood to listen to it.
Ah ok
Ive only listened to Plays for Pretty Baby, but I like it a lot
13 Point Programme is way better
Most would agree. I'll burn a cd of it for you if you like?
Oh man really?
that would be awesome, thanks!
I wouldn't class Brand New as a guilty pleasure,
they're a fantastic band! If Jawbox are anything like Jehu then I'm interested. VERY!
i listened to lots but i listened to loads of different bands

Before The Dawn Heals Us
in my humble opinion
Saturday = Youth is AMAZING
its their latest, one of my favourites this year top 3 i reckon.
Before the dawn heals us is also really good
thanks
i'll give 'em both a try!

Apart from I really don't like the new Cut Copy album. But yeah, nice.
i love
how quickly people reply to this thread. I literally just posted mine about 1 minute ago and since then about 20 people have posted theirs.
Well now
It IS the best thread on the music board
Thanks, and I love my chart as wellI would have discovered cLOUDDEAD with out two things:
and thanks to those here who helped me discover cLOUDDEAD, Subtle, NMH and convinced me to buy M83 and Gas.
As to Cut Copy, I would have agreed 7 days ago.
After DiS's recent listing of top 12 albums I decided to give a second chance to the ones I had dismissed. So I am going to see live the three acts I have so far missed.
Cut Copy were good fun on Monday at Night & Day. Their gradual build up of the audience interaction was brilliant . They worked it to a real frenzy, and we nearly passed away in the heat.
I can see Cut Copy becoming quite popular, but probably not here.
* oops delete that bit after 'well'
I was going to say:
I would not have discovered cLOUDDEAD without LastFM and this particular thread

thanks!
the clientele are sort of indie/dream pop, mostly quite lo-fi recording. judging from your last.fm you would probably like them too, i wish more people did :(

We must be due something new from Mr Bucci soon...?
I'm going to give you the first mark cause I like this chart
8/10
I can't wait for caiman_usa to deliver Meat Puppets II to me.
Cheers!
II was the one that I listened to. I've been listening to loads of old stuff this week as I finally got around to importing all my CDs onto my hardrive. Think it was too much for my CD drive though. It seems to have totally packed up. Very annoying.

9. Lifestyles of the Laptop Cafe is beyond good. And it gets better every time.
New Melvins is actually really good isn't it?
It's really short though. Or is that just me?
I hadnt noticed it being that short
but I think thats because Ive been enjoying it so much. I think its the definition of a grower. I was a little bit put off by the 70s sound to begin with, but then I got over myself and started to realise that it sounds absolutely enormous.
Yeah exactly
It sounds a lot more hooky than their previous stuff. Suicide In Progress actually sounds a lot like a Hot Snakes song. Which is funny, cause the song title makes me think of Audit In Progress, obviously.
Anyway, your chart gets an 8/10 as well. Yeah.
Yeah
Suicide in Progress totally reminded me of Hot Snakes. I love the fact that theyre so far into their careers and still turn out different-sounding stuff (which it may not seem like to somebody who hasnt listened to "Nude With Boots" after my 70s comparison)
Alex Smoke
I love Persona by him. Awesome track! What's Geiom like?
Ah Geiom
is amazing. The album "Island Noise" on Berkane Sol (I think) is one of the best dubstep releases I have heard in a very long time. Quite paranoid and melancholic in places, but it has these lovely organic-sounding synth lines and beats that are warm and beautiful. Definitely one for staying up into the wee hours of the morning.
Sweet
will check it out!
I saw Alex Smoke do a live set at Fabric a while back.
It was fantastic.
I've only
seen him the once, but it was really quite special. Nowadays he seems to be performing a lot more live than he used to. When "Incommunicado" came out it was nigh on impossible to catch him anywhere.
What's that lousy sound I hear?
It can only be one thing, and that is music.

4) Mike Sniper = Blank Dogs, I never knew that
5) New album came out!! eee
4) wow, what, really?
what DC snipers were you listening to
Missile Sunset
did you see that 'lost' dc snipers album that was doing the rounds a while ago
i think he just put it online for nothing coz it was never gonna get properly released
where did you see the thing about him being blank dogs?
I knew nothing
....about DC Snipers until this week. I knew that the Blank Dogs guy was called Mike, as I post on another forum, and when I started talking about Blank Dogs, then someone else posted to say that his friend "knows Mike". I googled "mike sniper blank dogs", and came up with a load of links.
I found out that he's a forum addict, he's always on Terminal Boredom.
wow, id not cottoned on to that
well, he posted this 'lost album' on terminal boredom, if you search for dc snipers on there youll find it! whats the blank dogs album like, i kinda lost track of all the stuff he was putting out a bit, but still listen to she's violent tonight a bit, is the album worth listening to?
missile sunset is a great album
well
I read a review about the album recently, which sums it up - you'll either get blown away by it, or wonder what the fuss is about. I can't see there being a happy medium - its not as good as Diana (The Herald) in my humble opinion, but it is still very very good. Why don't you just download it from his blog???
ive been too lazy to even do that thus far
i shall rectify that this week though! i keep forgetting he just puts everything on his blog...
right-o then

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
if you say so!!! I just don't think its ANYTHING on ANYTHING on since I left you.... what an incredible album (3500+ samples!!!)
I've been enjoying Air France, just seems a bit too throw away... opinions could change
hmmmm
you're making me think too much. Maybe Avalanches is better, maybe its just that Air France is new and exciting. Hmmm. I'm easily swayed... :S

1. Guess who I saw this week? They were amazing until the noise bit at the end, as extensively documented.
2. as always
3. I've actually grown to the album. Would'nt say it's my "favourite of all time" but it certainly makes a break from "traditional" songwriters
4. as always, always
5. as above
7. I really love patti smith. she's dead cool,
I got bored of The Holocaust as well
...soon after I got used to the physical thud of the bass in my chest. The thing is, I was standing in front of Kevin playing during it and I got the feeling he was pretty bored as well. Other than that, amazing.
I was praying for those lines to merge
when they started tipping and then going vertical my heart sank
I was well protected with HiFi ear plugs, but my jacket tied around my waist seemed to come alive with the vibration and be floating. It was an altogether unforgettable experience, and I really enjoyed the gig. It was like a trip back in time.

1 - my rediscovery of Monster (especially Strange Currencies and Tongue, my joint top tracks of the week) led me to listen to almost every R.E.M. album at some point in the week. I expect next week's chart to be pretty similar, with the William S. Burroughs version of Star Me Kitten heading the list.
3 - I'm Your Man is still one of the best albums in the history of music. The Future is slightly more disappointing.
4 - finally got around to listening to Feed the Animals. It's pretty good...
5 - Sumday is still a bit disappointing.
6 - Seven Swans is still amazing.

Where they really good? :(
I've given up on Cult of Luna. Every album they release builds me up only to break me down.
Yep, although they didn't play
Total Recall which was a bit pants and there were too many dickheads jumping off the stage at the beginning which was shit. They played 3 new songs, 'Kindergarten Cop', 'Red Heat' and another I didn't catch the name of, but it was rockin'. Also, the bassist crowd-surfed on a guitarcase.
Re: Cult of Luna - give it a try! One track is just crushing, a gorgeous slow build up then it bludgeons you with this power.

2 still there. not going away. i listened to it whilst walking home drunk on saturday night and it sounded even more amazing. the kind of album where i just want to scream all the words, which makes it my favourite kind of album.
5 I got the Hit Parade 2CD! and George Best + lots of bonus tracks!
7 i got up on saturday morning with the desire to listen to some of montreal that wasn't hissing fauna. i then listened to sunlandic twins and satanic panic back to back whilst lying in bed playing solitaire on my ipod. win.
