what are they doing at the moment? i miss them.
I have regularly asked myself the same question. Some geeky research has turned up nothing - Monitor records site is being re-developed and their myspace hasn't been updated in over a year. Sigh....
i would imgaine this limits their productivity.
In late 2004, the group began doing an encore that consisted only of a reenactment of the opening scene for 2001: A Space Odyssey, introduced by the drummer as a one-act play and a new direction for the band. The two black boxes where stacked longways to resemble the monolith in the film, and Miller and Freeland began a free jazz rendition of Also sprach Zarathustra. Fowler would slowly reemerge from an inconspicuous place in the venue, completely naked, bearing an object resembling or meant to symbolize a large bone. As the musical climax arrived, he would become increasingly enraged, much like the ape in the film, and eventually tear down the monolith and run off on all fours.
The most renowned performance came during the 2005 South by Southwest music festival. Here, the encore was performed beside the stage on a rocky waterfall constructed to look like a jungle, high above the audience. At the end of the performance, the boxes toppled down the tiered levels of vegetation into the audience. The press present at the performance documented the event in several articles across the country as saving an otherwise boring week.
I saw Oxes a few years ago and they were amazing. One of the guitarists got knocked over in 'the pit' and carried on playing perfectly as he was lifted up by everyone around him.
Youthmovies and the Edmund Fitzgerald supported as well.
when I get home from work.
As the members are in other bands?
I hope not. I love them. I have that 'banned sleeve' of the album. Them being date raped by a foxy lay-deee.
They did this when I saw them play at the LSE union a few years back. Probably the weirdest, and best, encore I've seen.
and the video. they are so silly
that is all ;)
I really hope they tour here again.
think it's being sorted now...
That's great news.
I got excited when I saw on last.fm that a friend was listening to Oxes, then I saw this thread title, I thought they must have new stuff coming.
OMG. Excellent news!
anyone heard this?
both sides are oxes, they are starting to play new shows in the US and announced a slot at Whartscape, they are also working on new material.
the split with Arab on Radar was a piss take.
Had them play and stay at my place back in 2004...
after the last Ep was released, one member moved to France and the other two still live in yanksville.
i'll have to see them again if they are back in october,.. classic times.
I reeeeeally want to see them live... I'd be well happy!
I'm tempted to ask a promoter friend to try and get them to play down here.
played at the Wheatsheaf in Oxford which fits about 100-150 or so.
