I'm toying with the idea of getting an account...
Pros - plenty of good labels are on there, from Rough Trade to Kompakt.
- very fast/near instant downloads
- cheap for what you get
Cons - frustrating omissions
- more so, confusing omissions/ late arrivals (eg singles by a band appear, albums don't)
- not a particularly brilliant recommendation thinger - not really in the same accuracy league as last.fm, or even Amazon
Glad I subscribe, even if I get a bit pissed off with it from time to time.
It's no good as a solo source of new music, but I tend to pick up about 4 albums (or 3 and some individual tracks) on there a month and pay 12 quid, so I reckon that's a decent enough deal.
Oh, one more con - if you don't use your tracks in the month, they don't carry over. Which sucks a bit, but as long as you remember what date the new month starts, you'll be ok...
Everytime I hear a band that sounds intriguing on DiS I check them out on emusic, as often as not they're on there. It's a great way to broaden your musical horizons. I've got into an absolute ton of bands this way:
You can download the albums you've bought as many times as you want over as long a period as you like.
Means I'm gonna have to buy an external hard drive but sounds too good to turn down.
It's the future I tells ya.
