What a weird selection of songs...
there's gonna be a whole series of them. interesting idea although i suspect it'll be a pretty obvious lot.
Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, Chuck D, Alex Turner, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Morrissey, Patti Smith
Not bad, but there are others what are better...
i appreciate and support the need to have someone modern in there but i think there are better choices. should've done craig finn :D
No Nick Cave :(
I had't realised that they'd updated this. I've only got the 2001 edition.
They should do a Flavor Flav one.
Or Bright Eyes
probably couldn't stretch to release a booklet big enough to give people a true feeling of flava flavs work. i mean leonard cohan is one thing but flava flav is something else
in their "best lyricists evahhh" thing just strikes me as tokenistic in the extreme. Same for Alex Turner
although they had a guy from the guardian on the news and he as much as said "it's a very white middle class choice" :D
they think. You could as easily put a Weller whole career retrospective in as much as Turner if that were the case, though, and perhaps Waits ahead of Cohen. Is it just lyrics? Because with someone like Dylan you'd ideally want something to provide context.
in there? You might as well put Mansun in as well.
No Waits/Brennan? No Reed? No Mark E Smith ?
see the Dylan exhibition today - looking forward to it!
and leonard cohen, bob dylan and pattie smith. And by "get" i mean "steal off my dad when he gets the paper".
would also have made for an interesting selection.
I agree though....what is Alex Turner doing in there?!
So Chuck D is the black choice and Alex Turner is the young choice? Hmmm.
Eminem over Alex Turner.
would have been nice to have someone like John Darnielle or David Berman though
