Just bought their album, damn impulse one click purchase on amazon. I've only heard one track once.
I dont know if I liked them much they were alright. I was thinking of seeing what the album was like. I think they have quiet a few fans on here mind.
just please keep listening to it
I don't know why but it's my default album when drunk.
also competes with Comets On Fire foor best album to listen to after taking ecstasy.
Persevere with it.
fucking destroy you. Which can only be a good thing.
i still feel that the skywave album is better. while APTBS has some songs that will seriously pummel you, they run dangerously close to having a little too much ministry-ish 80s cheese on songs like 'to fix the gash in your head' that detract from the overall experience. also, it would help if the vocalist didn't see fit to whisper every lyric. That aside, 'Don't Think Lover', 'Ocean', and 'My Weakness' rock really fucking hard.
Possibly one of the best live bands on the planet at this moment in time. Need I say any more?
I've only seen them once, and they might have been having an off day or something, but they weren't really very impressive. They were kinda slouched over their guitars and not even that loud. Much of the songs were lost through the noise.
have seen them on a bad day
..i probably wouldn't go to one partly because I value my hearing, but mostly because most venues have terrible sound systems, where the drums almost always overpower the guitars, and given the level of feedback and noise in the album (which I love), I feel like the guitars would be drowned out in a solid wall of noise, which in my opinion, would completely negate the entire experience. This is basically what happened when I went to watch shoegaze-inspired groups like Autolux, Asobi Seksu and the Raveonettes (the latter performance was at a decent venue, so i could make everything out OK). Can anybody confirm/deny this?
i saw Asobi Seksu and A Place To Bury Strangers at Nottingham Bodega Social, and the sound was PERFECT for both of them.
twice now and both times I've been pretty disappointed by the sound. First time her vocals were almost completely drowned out (as well as the melodies), and the second time the sound was equally poor.
I saw The Raveonettes last year and they sounded great, though I think this is less of a trouble for them.
but when i saw Autolux (by chance) as the supported Ravonettes on the N.American tour a few years ago the sound was brilliant for Autolux but not so for Raveonettes. Abandon reply? Not sure where i'm going with this but sound is obviously really important for these bands in particular.
it was just a massive sludge of guitar feedback.... but in a bad way. your couldnt pick out a single song in it all. They either played in complet darkness or with the strobe on for fuckin ages too that was annoying.
the guitars aren't sludgey. The vocals are always really quiet which can be a little annoying but I just get too caught up in the noise to care!
