i thought this album had been out ages, and this would be a new one.
its cracking though, cant wait to see them on thursday.
because one of my kids had a problem.
Was at the gig when my wife called me...
and I have no plans too.
I'm not trying to be cool, I just know they won't be my thing, and thus far, despite the massive hype, I've managed to avoid hearing them.
And i avoided FF because of this.
However, i accidentaly heard one of thier songs and did the old 'this is awesome...whos this?' and thus was beaten at my own game.
I absolutely love this band. Both the album and the EP are amazing. Believe the hype people. Don't let it put you off with these guys.
and it's good. The harmonies are terrific and some of the music is beautiful BUT I can't shake the feeling that their best songs so far are on the EP, particularly Mykonos. I am enjoying the album a lot though and hoping that I grow to love this collection of songs as much as the EP.
I like that song but is it worth buying the album if that's the best track?
isn't on the album (well not the version i downloaded) and theres a few songs better than that so it is definitely worth it!
it just happens that Mykonos (which isn't on the album) is my favourite song of theirs so far.
I have tried, but no.
It's very, well, MIDDLECLASS DAD isn't it?
Prove me wrong kids, prove me wrong.
Its very organic music which is IDEAL for the summer
i group into the noodly Q magazine cover stars in 5 years time genre
Not being funny, but is that a good thing?
That's what i was driving at.
Does that mean I'll like Fleet Foxes?!
with MIDDLECLASS DAD ?
Sting, Mark Knopfler, Chris Rea all moaning about the green fly in their vineyards.
The harmonies on this album are so deliscious and the music at times is just sooo soo beautiful that the isn't much reason to listen to anything else during those days of sun.
i sat and listened to them for ages on Hype Machine the other day and I never felt it got better than being "alright".
people give to much gravitas to the reviews on this site. I don't understand it.
It might not change the way you view an album or band. But Pitchfork are pretty influential, and a strong review on there can give a band a massive push forward
For certain labels, a 9.0 on Pitchfork must be absolutely huge
their myspace a couple of weeks ago, when I saw that they would be the Elbow support, but they didn't seem to wow me. & then it was strange to see a bit of hype/praise shortly after then. I think I'll wait and see how I like them at the Elbow gig before I rule them out.
u must be just under a rock
in Brussels. I had never heard them before and thought the gig was pretty boring actually. probably overhyped...
love anything in the vein of country indie rock like MMJ and BoH so they were bound to quam themselves over Fleet Foxes.
Saying that, it is probably a contender for album of the year and well worth the praise it has received.
anyone else think this is a blatant ripoff of person pitch? even the album cover looks similar.
and the covers aren't all that similar. I'm a bit baffled by the suggestion.
in that there are no real songs as such, just a wonderful sound.
I'm not knocking this.
I really am a bit confused by the comparison.
I do like both albums quite a lot though.
by no songs he means it all blends into one orgy of sound (in a good way). anyway, i just feel like person pitch and this album both give off that dreamy-distanced-oversized-rabbits-frolicking-in-a-field-with-drunken-children kind of vibe
did that make sense whatsoever?
I guess the overall mood created by the albums is similar but musically, they're pretty different.
it's quite average. very very average.
it's been overrated in much of the press i've read. it's ok, but it reminds me of so much other stuff that has happened recently, bits of grizzly bear (the knife track off yellow house), yeasayer and loads of arcade fire. its been built up like its the saviour of american music, but it's merely pretty good i reckon.
but can't see how it is being so highly praised 9.0 on pitchfork, 5 stars in the gruniad. More like a 7/10.
a spare ticket or two for the brighton gig on monday?
but from the discription it sounds like alot of other stuff around so unless the songs are ace it has some making up to do.
have I been living in a hole?
