I'm only up to track two and quite enjoying this blatant 'House of the Rising Sun' rip off.
I'm keeping an open mind, teletext gave it a good review (apart from the single) and John Earls' taste is generally representative of my own. Admittedly the first minute of Violet Hill is cringeworthy but I've grown to quite like the rest of it.
but viva la vida is good apart from the itunes ad in which they look a bit stupid
it sounds like the record might be a bit shameless and cringe, though ill probably still like it because i can be a bit like that
about a Coldplay album but I do quite like some of it. Violet Hill is pretty shite though other than Brian Eno's intro.
if you're joking, or just the most pretentious person ever
not been on DiS long, have we?
in other news, i quite like the single (and have never had any time for Coldplay beforehand), but everyone else seems to hate it. Go figure..
although I'm not sure.
, but - fuck me - "pretty shite though other than Brian Eno's intro". It's a thirty second noise swell!!
Right, I'm going to assume it was a joke before my blood pressure skyrockets.......
I'm just the most pretentious person ever. Sorry.
But seriously, that's a good thirty seconds of noise!
A wax cylinder recording of a Tibetan Inuit throat singer mangling his wrist bones with an electric grinder wired up to a wah-wah pedal.
Fucking seminal, yeah?
That sounds rather unpleasant.
leak and i think the album is really great
it's quite good. Maybe what X&Y should've been.
had they released this after a rush of blood they would have retained the credibility they earned with parachutes and the aforementioned
Having made one of the most beautiful albums of the 21st century.
but i like the idea this could be a fake leak like death cab did and all DiSers will actually hate the real album
So I'm shocked by how good Viva La Vida actually is. All that talk of 'progression' that preceeded each of their albums is actually justified here, the album is overflowing with ideas and exotic flavour. Bit early to say but I'm thinking its their best material yet.
although i must remember that people said all of this about X+Y when it got leaked - I decided to listen with an open mind and it was just the same old plodding horseshit i was expecting.
PM me a link to this please?
quite enjoy this. Solid effort, comfortably the best thing they've done since Parachutes. The song 'Viva La Vida' is really lovely aswell!
However it could have been so much better were they not trying so hard for it to be different.
Or that they were trying to make it sound too different. To me it just seems like a natural progression for the band to make.
Also, Violet Hill's grown on me. From exactly the 53rd second onwards I can happily listen to and enjoy it, while wiping the sick out of my mouth from the first 52 seconds.
they have came full circle and created something entirely predictable. I still think it is better than A Rush of Blood to the Head.
has given me hope that they might have dropped a 'Be Here Now'-style b*ll*ck. Chris Martin's claims that they've made an "experimental" record are frankly preposterous judging by what I've heard of it. Hiring Brian Eno at great expense doesn't mean you've turned into Battles or My Bloody Valentine, you equine-faced tw*t.
The cover art is achingly pretentious, and despite his bluster about it being all left-field and weird, the lyrics are, as usual, completely impersonal and clearly designed to be bellowed back at him by a stadium full of automatons who think The Da Vinci Code represents the height of contemporary culture.
There's something sinister about that Apple advert they're in too- something I can't quite put my finger on. It's a got a quasi-religious, pseudo-militaristic feel to it, as if they're trying to recruit people to some horrible cult. Which I suppose they are, when you think about it. I suppose it was only a matter of time before that little tit added a God complex to his list of unappealing characteristics
I must confess that some of the bile above can be accounted for by the fact that one of the numerous indie Cindie's that I've lusted after over the years fancies the arse of Chris Martin, so I'm basically just jealous. Jealous, but right.
when i went into Tesco's before they had this at the No. 1 spot of the chart with a little sticker saying "released 12th June". Presumptious much?
'cuz the record company (EMI?) are ploughing everything into this album to be a massive seller like ROBTTH and X&Y.
It's not what i normally listen to (prog-metal,thrash etc) but I think it'll do very well.
Not going to play it much though.
