biffy clyro are SO 2004.
60 seconds in and this song sounds GUFF
biffy continue to make quality music, yes, yes i accept its become more commercial but its called progression, and this song is in the same vain as the Blackened Sky stuff but with a bigger more epic sound. as Simon said himself "the lyrics have become more important than they were before"
along with the rest of the last record.
blackened skies I loved when it came out
vertigo i didn't listen to much at first, but heard it again a year back and it's great. Puzzle was not so good, bit dull generally, what i heard of the previous album was meh as well.
Ergo not majorly fussed about next album
Diet Foo Fighters
If they continued making great albums, I wouldn't have a cause to complain.
Couldn't care less that Biffy have become commercially successful - it's the fact that their success has led them to write and produce derivative, MOR rock CRAP that annoys me. You don't need to sacrifice making quality music for commercial acceptance.
Phenomenal band that has been rewarded for their hard work and amazing albums with a major label deal, and one which they have capitalized on. So what if they are more popular now, they deserve it, and ‘Puzzle’, while being more accessible, is still a million miles away from stadium rock and pisses on any recent Foo Fighters work.
you're on the wrong website mate
Biffy aren't exactly cutting edge twee indie that P4K have been going on about are they?
I'm just sticking up for a band I've liked since their first album.
up their arse with indie pop shit.
Quality band, quality music
the band clearly changed their sound, and most people here clearly liked them before their last album, everytime anything is criticised ever someone comes up with some "a hurr hurr hurr well itz not sum supa undaground indie band wit 4 fans dats the onli reson u dun like it", its a pretty poor argument.
That is so fucking bad.
Shame on you DIS people.
getting drunk with them 5 years ago before Vertigo of Bliss and remember how they were harping on about wanting to sound like Foo Fighters and Crowded House
get over it.
They're still the same band. Puzzle wasn't a surprise to me. If it was a surprise to you, you're clearly an idiot.
and being disappointed. They're the same band but they've emphasised what a lot of people here will probably think are their weakest elements. Congratulations for having met and got drunk with Biffy Clyro, I wish I had your showbiz connections, as such I'm clearly a moron. I've always been ambivalent towards them, I was commenting more on DiS in general, the whole counter-counter-culture brigade which seems to pop up everytime something's criticised.
I can see Thrash Hits is going to be resoundingly successful.
as in just making catchy songs a lot of people like?
It wasn't a blanket statement.
I, however, am one of those people. I found it a largely bland, wholly predictable album, whereas TVoB and IL had such density and diversity that even listening to them now is exciting.
they should have just Done An Oasis and made the same record another 10 times
I mean, all those bland albums with tracks like 'Living is A Problem' and 'I'm Not Everyone' on...yeah, very run of the mill that.
It seems bands can't evole their sound.
its not like oasis got any simpler, which is what I think Biffy did for better or worse. Regardless of whether they wanted to do it all along or whatever reason, I think people who liked them when they were more leftfield are justified in being disappointed by their new direction. That said, I do think Living Is A Problem is probably one of their best songs, I just think the rest of the album is really boring.
that's the point.
they totally deserve their success, but I can't see myself liking the new album any more than Puzzle. Ah well.
which isn't even much for a huge Biffy fan. Vertigo of Bliss is a perfect album as far as I'm concerned. Puzzle lame tho.
would you not say that you can't see yourself liking the new album is a really stupid thing to say without hearing it?
did these people not listen to all the GIANT hooks and choruses on the first album?
or the ones on the second album?
or, to a lesser extent, the third?
I think it's really good to see a band who've really been putting in the work building a large loyal fanbase by touring and releasing consistently good material finally breaking through rather than seeing another mtv2/nme/topman band being shat of the post-libertines jangle factory and straight onto the top of the album chart.
