this is joyful, read all the comments:
i like internet drama.
Swells has finally run out of bands to use as signifiers of people he hates! We knew it was coming from the way he put Noah And The Whale in a similar list a couple of months ago, but we never imagined he'd actually run dry.
and I don't really like indie.
I'm a bit confused now.
listed at the start. Bought them all. And like that Ting Tings single.
But Steven Wells will always be an attention seeking, unfunny idiot.
understand the article, let along the attention the Ting Tings are getting.
i don't know much about this swell fellow but he seems like a huge twat
If it then I love him.
I don't understand
it doesn't make any sense
bit more eloquent though.
Pretty standard for Swells then…”if you don’t agree with me you’re a cock, and no, I won’t be backing up my argument with any facts or evidence”
Terrible band that should be put down. Especially the singer with her horses mouth and teeth.
"Try harder. I suspect the article is intended to be contraversial, but Swells was writing similar crap in the NME (or MM, pedants, I can’t remember) when I was 17 and I thought it was childish then. 16 years later, its just fucking sad."
He's a massive bell.
he's about as funny as cot death
but that's just hateful nonsense. I like The Ting-Tings though.
i mean that the people taking the piss of him is joyful, not the article.
It uses the word cock and vagina? Hardi har har.
It's almost as contrived as the music it attacks.
Just because he writes something controversial doesn't mean it is good journalism. It is Connor McNicholas NME-esque in its attempts at starting a debate.
There's nothing really controversial about what he's written at all.
Essentially, all he's done is...
a) Say he likes the Ting Tings
b) Use the words "cock" and "vagina"
doesn't he try and accuse everyone who doesn't like the Ting tings as being a misogynist. Just stupid 14 year olds style writing for what is meant to be a more 'grown-up' website.
Similar to his other piece about everyone who decided not to go to Glastonbury being racist.
His obsessive vendetta agains Belle & Sebastian's Stuart Murdoch in the late 90s was the last time there was any essential reading in the NME
of being racist, sexist or homophobic? Would be a first if not...
"not releasing singles from albums, refusing to do proper promo vids and interviews, and generally giggling and sharing in-jokes between songs" wouldn't last.
And he was right - Wells turned B&S into the single releasing pop Trevor Horn-produced pop machine they are today!
I like the *idea* of gratuitously winding up certain people for no real reason about not liking them, like Swells has tried to do here.
I'm just sure I like the actual way the article is written. I do like some of it though.
