Overhyped? Or a band of great potential?Who knows, they have another album ready soon don't they?
they have already shown they can write a diverse range of songs without wandering too far away from their key formula which makes them so likable in the first place. Fun live band as well, 'A Lesson In Crime' proved they are every bit as a capable as matching 'The Strokes' (early) in terms of guitar driven indie rock, where as 'Elephant Shell' has them doing more melodic bases pop music but it has it's own sound to it & it works well.
Thought it was derivative, instantly forgetful and bland.
That was the first song I've heard from them, and hopefully will be the last.
It's lacking more fun tracks on the lines of 'Your English Is Good' but I still enjoy every listen to the album.
if you take them for what they are and nothing more. They do what they do well, and while it isn't particularly inventive or original I think it works well. Elephant Shell is pretty solid throughout and yes, The Harrowing Adventures is clearly the longest and strongest track.
But I really love A Lesson in Crime, despite the fact I feel like I really shouldn't
needs to cut down on his e-numbers
A Lesson In Crime is a fantastic mini album the is no getting past it, it has so much energy and soooo punchy!
I have tickets for digital though, should be ace.
I'll try and give Elephant Shell a listen before then.
