The guy is remarkable. This is my favourite video of him playing.
He makes that guitar talk.
i never understand these things... people go on about how great some guitarist is because of their 'versatility' and 'speed' and such... surely a great guitarist is someone who is actually enjoyable to listen to? Ridiculously fast stuff is so unpleasant.
hes not even that good... and the music is cheesy and annoying
don't understand these things, do you.
i just don't like the music, idiot... and personally think there are better guitarists out there.
speed has nothing to do with it. Guthrie is versatile because he can play in different styles: robert ford, larry carlton, hendrix. different types of playing, as you say, sounds enjoyable to different people. hendrix is bluesy, carlton is bluesy and slightly more jazzy. A guitarist can appreciate guthrie's technique, the way he uses legato and insane string bends to emphasize what he's playing. there's loads of different things to appreciate about guitarists styles, if we all just sat back and said 'that's enjoyable, what's the point in analysing it' then it'd be a pretty bland instrument.
i doubt it... these guitar prodigy types never can... i'm not saying don't analyse it, just that i don't see the pleasure in these pointless guitar wank things. listen to proper artists ... you know with songs and stuff
for your narrow minded, ignorant self to grasp the fact that 'proper' artists and instrumental players can actually exist side by side and have careers. NO KIDDING!11LOL! People do appreciate diversity and things that aren't, you know, commercially popular and all that. Every heard of Joe Satriani? Ah forget it, stick to your wombats.
i actually own one of his albums...its terribly boring. And I've never even heard anything by the wombats. Before you insult people on here you should really check up on their music tastes. And I begrude someone who tells me that I should appreciate things that aren't commercially popular, but says the best single this decade is 'our velocity'.
Ever heard of Animal Colelctive? The Dodos? Why?? Subtle? Yo La Tengo? Boredoms? No Age? Pavement? I suspect you may well have. I just don't like people who are 'good at the guitar cos they're fast and versatile and blah blah'. I'm all for good guitar play, but I'd rather it was presented in song format.... such as Nick Drake, The Mars Volta (though I know some will disagree), At The Drive-In, Dinosaur Jr. The list goes on.
I don't like it, get over it.
you own a satriani album, you are in the know! ksorry, my mistake.
if not, sorry if I've seemed like a dick... its one of those days. Fucking rain... just wanna go out for a walk.
If it is sarcasm... DAMN YOU¬!!! ETC!!!!
which I equally hate
but yeah he seems to be able to play that rubbish well really well.
but I watched a couple of his videos and I don't think he really emulates the different styles he's meant to be doing - not with any passion anyway. I think Steve Vai beats him on most fronts (especially if you want someone who can make a guitar talk).
boring, horrid, cheesy, nonsense....
so the man has skill that he can play fast and has a great command of theory and technique but I would rather see than in the context of great song writing than fretboard masturbation over an elevator music backing track. Henrix, Page, Slash and even a virtuoso like Van Halen all proved they can put their skills in the context of some exciting songs.
I don't understand how people enjoy this sort of stuff.
is the man
