Best single this decade?
it's not even the best single from that record
because that is our velocity.
by maximo park
the 'lol' remains
...why dont you?
an almost perfect pop song
Though for mainly personal reasons. I heard it on the radio last year, thought 'This is incredible', and investigated it. At that stage I just listened to radio 1, never really gave a thought about alternative music. From maximo park, i discovered the futureheads, interpol, then I found this website and it all exploded! So that one song has led me to discover different types of incredible music, so, for that, it deserves single of the decade :P
There are way better singles from this decade, waaaay better.
Why choose this particular track anyway?
Can't seem to come up ith any particular criteria. Just reckon that it would stand up as a decent choice.
maybe not quite single of the decade but there aren't too many better. Although I would put forward "House of Jealous Lovers", "Tropical Iceland" and "Take Me Out" [prepares for hatred].
"Take Me Out" as well...
Or maybe "Seven Nation Army", or "Get Ur Freak On"
great examples of what a good single should be like
is a million times better than both of them put together. Times a million
"Umberlla" or "Crazy In Love"... as far as singles go, I think these take some beating.
Something from Arcade Fire perhaps? "Rebellion" or "Tunnels"
One Thing ftw
Umbrella can fuck off though.
Kelis' "Caught Out There"
"Last Night", the Strokes
"Hurt", Johnny Cash (Nine Inch Nails)
But the winner is...
"B.O.B" by Outkast
correct me if i'm wrong....
'cuz nothin' else better to do at mo'!
Coldplay's "Yellow" released in 2000, so just makes it within the decade.
yeah i guess it does
B.O.B is great!
prob would come top of the most lists if everyone had to make lists (excluding the real world outside where everyone likes rubbish music).... but I personally think there are loads of better singles.
Off the top of my head, from that year alone, Fireworks by Animal Collective.... from other years, Grass by Animal Collective.... hmmm. There are also loads of other great singles that aren't by AC, but right now i totally dig them!! So they are at the fornt of my mind. Grass has everything you want in a single though.... its a bit pop, a bit out there, definitely catchy... amongst other things.
I'll go along with all that actually. Get Ur Freak On would edge Fireworks in a pound for pound battle though.
gyfo has too much potential to become annoying with repeated listens
I've never found those two singles annoying.
what the hell is snarf?!
in terms of a post chaps, why bother?
just had a sudden mood swing
I think even such a glib remark demonstrates how utterly un-answerable this question is
Participate, don't infuriate.....
no,it isn't the best single this decade. For an obvious reason. Happy now?
but not worth to top all those 'best track of the year' lists.
it was alot better than most songs released last year, its a very good song. I know I would put it up there (maybe not TOP though, and I'm sure many others would...
generally making twattish comments?
So yes, I'm going to agree.
Single of the decade? no idea...
so OBVIOUSLY the best single of this decade
RIP Ol' Dirty
I was just thinkin of that an hour ago. Just spun 'Return of The 36 Chambers' and it reminded me of that tune....
that's a 90's tune.
and incorrect even if it was released in the noughties.
pure pop perfection!
That should win best single of the decade!
singles of the decade:
Outkast - Hey Ya
White Stripes - Seven Nation Army
Rhianna - Umbrella
Modest Mouse - Float On
of Montreal - Shes A Rejector
Bloc Party - Helicopter
Gorillaz - Clint Eastwood
Maximo Park - Our Velocity
No WAY is it Single of the Decade!
For me, it'd have to be No One Knows. Brought Queens to a new audience, was instantly accessible yet stands up to repeated listening.
but I don't know if I'd call it the best single this decade, if only for the reason that, at eight minutes long, it ain't exactly a radio-play classic (perhaps best track if we're being pedantic?). Best single must be something like Umbrella, Hey Ya, and so on.
On a side note - where the fuck does all the Our Velocity love come from? It wasn't a great song even by Maximo Park's standards, even by the standards of their sub-par second record - Books from Boxes was better for a start.
Really is nowhere near good enough to be considered single of that year, let alone the decade.
still pretty good though.
'No Scrubs' by TLC released in?? hmmmm??
Get Your Freak On would be my winner. So weird sounding, but so catchy!
but i dont expect anyone to agree with me
a brilliant song.
Instrumentally, its extremely well put together and the lyrics really engulf the joys and miserys of growing old.
It deserves its critical acclaim, although I wouldn't agree its the best single of the decade.
