Acceptable to indie kids because of twee lyrics, would otherwise be dismissed as euro-pop by "the community".
Doesn't do it for me really, a little bit too croony...
sounds like the second single of a 90s pop band trying to cash in on the spice girls.
rather than euro-pop
Could it be exactly like euro pop from the 90s? Why yes, it could!
a) he is Scandinavian and thus sings in a Scandinavian accent
b) it is essentially pop music.
c) I wanted to use it
d) it rhymes with "candy-pop"
scandi-pop, euro-pop or whatever there's not many artists around making sweet, clever, joyous music. jens makes me smile and sing along and for that, good sirs, i am grateful.
I'm just saying, if the lyrics weren't all twee DiS people would think something completely different about him
which is definitely his worst. And even then, only two or three songs - Sipping On The Sweet Nectar is the only one I can think of. Plus, Friday Night At The Drive-In Bingo is amazing and not europop. And that speed up slow-down moment <3 <3 <3
His first two albums, the pop songs - Maple Leaves, A Higher Power, The Wrong Hands, Black Cab, Julie, Happy Birthday Dear Friend Lisa, Sweet Summers Night etc don't really sound europop at all. More indiepop with amazing crooning and magnetic fields sampling.
And then there's the amazing slow songs no one appreciates like F Word, When I Said I Wanted To Be Your, The Rocky Dennis trilogy, A Man Walks Into A Bar...
fuck. I love him so so so much. Maple Leaves is the most perfect pop song in the world.
I've only got the third album and heard a handful of other songs.
But still, "your arms around me" is basically a 90s cheesy pop song with better lyrics.
god i sound like wrightylew.
like magnetic fields, only not as good, but then again, not that much is i guess.
