if so, why no celebration at this case of pop-rock euthanasia
Isn't that... like... what all bands go on just after they've released an album and/or finished a tour?
surely if you don't like them, it affects you in no way?
but then they turned shit so if they broke up i could live more happily with the good memories (like seeing them headline my first festival) without them twating about ruining it all by releasing more awful albums
whatever... still stupid
GET WITH DA FUNK
Hopefully it'll mean frusciante and flea can go off and do more good solo stuff. RHCPs last album was completely terrible but the rest of their stuff is all brilliant, so SHUT UP
that they were good but now they aren't (live or on cd) so perhaps it would be good if they called it a day because then they wouldn't go on being awful and pissing all over their history
for sticking to your guns on this one.
Either that or you have a small willy and can't enjoy DA FUNK
i gave it to a 50 year old woman in my office.
I bet he tastes better than her.
seriously though, "I Like Dirt" has to be one of the worst songs I've ever heard.
but I still liked it.
it's one of Daft Punk's best singles.
I dispise both of Red Hot Chilli Peppers' songs, though. The one that goes *chung chung, dugga dugga* with Anthony Kiedis grunting over it, and the one where he decides to show us his sensitive side.
They're truly shit. My first ever big gig disappointment! :(
My nephew really wanted to see them, but I refused to take him lest it tainted his views against live music forever.
It was my first gig and in retrospect they were rubbish, but i;ve somehow managed to convince myself they were alright because they were my favourite band for about 3 years leading up to it. I was 14 and it was at murrayfield stadium. We were sitting at the opposite end of the stadium, could hardly see them and the sound was terrible.
That says, I've got the Off The Map dvd and they're brilliant in it. Frusciante has "orgasm guitar face" on about 60% of the time.
A band isn't a good band if they're rubbish live.
it looks like I'm disagreeing with the wrong thing now. Oh well.
i'm sure of it - but nothing they did after californication and that tour did anything for me
RHCP are complete shit and always have been.
Seriously, you didn't mean that right? Right?!
some clever 'Can't Stop' reference
Dave Navarro is back and they're given up yoga for drugs. The glorious lightbulb days are back!
Anyone remember watching this on BBC2 highlights tv? Green Day were also on it.
I feel like I'm watching The Residents
is there any way we can delete their entire back catalogue apart from Aeroplane?
Flea is just about the only tolerable one as he once played bass for FEAR.
Despicable! Navarro can suck my fat one, WORST ROCKSTAR EVER
that one janes addiction album i've got was brilliant though, so whatever. One hot minute has a lot of good RHCP songs on it, but they'll never be "classics" without frusciante or slovak
stems mainly from the video for Friends. It's so bad, RHCP look proper pseudo-gayed out, even Chad! To be fair I don't think he ever gave a toss as long as there was cold beer in the cooler
He sleeps in a coffin. You wouldn't catch him doing yoga.
get bendy and shit, be able to beat your friends at limbo, and...Erm I dunno what else, oh yeah have EXCELLENT balance.
His solos could not be cheesier.
stadium arcadium is dire
i'm going to play a song from every RHCP album and you will all GO NUTS FOR IT
and deaf I was feeling :P
It would be naatheeng compared to my 'Best Of Fishbone' dj set. Naatheeng.
see them at reading the other year, that was a feat of endurance.
they need to go and take drugs for a year, but they wont.
hell go and meet the dali laama or something gay
I wish people like this posted more.
Faith No More > RHCP
I'v heard all day!
scar tissue hadent formed the basis of my early teenage years id raise my pint to this.
but of course im not old enough to drink so i wont be raising anything.
It's just NME with their 'catchy but completely misleading headling" schtick:
They don't excite me especially but I have nowt against them.
"Oh yeah this is brilliant"
Shut up. It shouldn't affect you if you don't like them. Stop being a stupid cunt.
RHCP fans were up there with Oasis and Coldplay in terms of having to learn to deal with not everyone loving their favourite band.
it's probably their best "early one"
the best songs are the covers! And Catholic School Girls Rule is possibly the weakest attempt at a punk song ever.
It's "funk rock". It's brilliant. It's exactly what RHCP stood for then: Having sex with people. It just sounds like what I imagine LA to have been like back then. It's brilliant.
Mother's Milk is alright
Blood Sugar Sex Magik was pretty good in places
One Hot Minute is accomplished
That's the most you'll get from me.
mother's milk is alright
BSSM is amazing
One hot minute is alright
Californication is pretty good
By the way is amazing
Stadium arcadium is shit
Ritual de lo habitual is amazing, but i've never felt like getting anything else.
I just don't see why RHCP are such a laughing stock among indie people. Supposedly because of the lack of sincerity or something, which is ridiculous because people like les savy fav and gay against you. It's hardly lik RHCP are middle of the road or anything, which is the thing to not like these days. It just baffles me.
I mean, come on. Socks on cocks, songs about fucking policewomen and how big your dick is, the amazing musicianship of everybody but kiedis.
I used to love them too, but I've just moved on. I give BSSM a spin every now and again, but it's just a bit boring, really.
I'm on the porch cos I lost my house key
Pick up my book, I read bukowski
that's hilarious(ly bad)
It's an amazing album.
For the record I think Gay Against You are complete wank.
And Les Savy Fav are a bit one dimensional. I still really want to see them live though.
and as cool as some of the John Frusciante On Drugs guitar playing was, he still spends most of his time playing like a lame Jimi Hendrix and pulling a Jimi Hendrix face.
along with a coffin to sleep in.
If we're talking stupid sex funk the Uplift Mofo Party Plan is better. George Clinton shouldn't have put all those crappy horns on it either.
someone stuck on the RHCP greatest hits at the end of the night/morning when it was just about 7 of us left there and it was really quite perfect, we were all like "now i don't normally like the Chilli Peppers but they wrote some great tunes in their time"
This is either a good advert for RHCP or a bad advert for drugs.
But I left the CDs at my parents' house :(
a group of us were accosted in Cologne by a ginger German sex offender wearing only a pair of grey tracksuit bottoms that kept falling down.
We escaped into a video shop that had "Give it Away" on MTV, he followed us in and then started humping the shop window. The police were called and he ran off.
RHCP: only liked by German sex offenders.
I really can't stand them.
Funk is pretty much the worst type of music...I HATE SLAP BASE TOO!
Oh and kedis voice is grating!
Lets start a petition to get them to split FOR GOOD!!!!
so you in?
go break a tooth yeah?
just saw this on the nme site, and noticed the huge torrent of abuse from nme readers, and the similarly huge torrent of abuse they've had over here. Like everyone rushed over from one site to the other to post identical comments...
Which of course they didnt, cos we all hate the nme (ducks for cover)
DiS people are basically NME people but with more obscure band. It's like the difference between vegans and vegetarians. Vegetarians are snobby about non-veggies, but keep it quiet a bit because they know there will always be vegans waiting to shoot them down.
Anyway, you're all such a bunch of bores and RE: supersonic
"a band isn't a good band if they're not good live"
Shut up you fucking purist tit. You know that's bullshit. "live music" isn't some holy, transcendent thing that splits the goodies from the baddies. Music isn't and never has been about what or how you play on a certain day at a certain time in a certain place to certain people.
reason they were tolerated by EMI through 4 consecutive albums (all being commercial dives) because of their live reputation?
I've seen a lot of bands, and ive seen them when they havent been anything amazing, but also occasions where they have properly rocked.
And i'm sure they used to regularly be hailed as the/one of the best live acts around in the late nineties. and even though the songs from stadium arcadium are not great, and ive heard that the reading and leeds performances were lame, but frusciante has really rediscovered the guitar demon within, which was blinding last time i saw them.
people dont like the jamming they do either. which i really like cos hardly anyone does it. but then i also like TMV live, and think that if I saw Battles live, possibly the only thing better than a stonking rendition of atlas would be a spontaneous freak out.
not a rallying defense. its just i get annoyed at double standards and people jumping on bandwagons. I hate Oasis, with very little to substantiate my feeling. So unless provoked, I just ignore it.
regardless of how good they are live. I've never seen them but I wouldn't have thought a jam would go down so well with the 10 cds a year crew who make up a large amount of their audience.
Personally I can't stand them and they are probably the band I hate most.
i have just read this thread in its entirety and i don't understand where yes_ comes from. He (I assume it is a he), is just brushing aside peoples opinions and then stating his own as fact. which wouldn't be so galling if it wasn't fucking obvious that everyone here seems to have some love for the RHCPs earlier stuff and they are just saying that they have got a bit repetitive and shit. I would like BSSM if it didn't become the blueprint for all the shit that was to come. Each of their albums before that are really unique and different to one another. now they are dull and shooting music buying fish in an hmv barrel
What i'm doing is getting pissed off at all the backslapping cuntery going on.
"I hate RHCP i'm so glad they have split up"
"yeah me too, we're both really cool and above all this "HMV Barrel" stuff"
It's so typically DiS.
his thread from about a day before this one, which was about BSSM being great...
I'm well up for it. I love John Frusciante's solo records and wouldn't mind seeing Flea do something else. I use to love this band ages ago but I have grown tired of them of late.

my spelling has sucked since school... I'm a special needs child
they were one of my favourite and most formative bands of my teenage years. But Stadium Arcadium really sounded like a band largely out of ideas (though it wasnt totally without merit). Up until that point, they'd made great funky punk/rock over a 20 year career including at least one bona fide all time classic album, which is more than can be said for a lot of bands DiS is mad on. Whatever you think of them, i don't think you can deny they've continually evolved their sound on every album in their long career. I'm not surprised by the DiS backlash though, its par for the course on any band with a bit of success, and frankly it's pretty boring. I hate oasis, but i dont bother getting into long debates about why i think they are shit.
However, I dont necessarily think a break/split is an entirely bad thing, i think they need some new ideas or at least need to preserve their reputation intact.
A couple of final points:
I saw them live twice, the first time the were awesome, the second wasn't so great and was marred by sound problems.
FAO: Yes_. I salute your bloody mindedness and endless enthusiasm in defending RHCP, I doubt you'll ever win, but i'm on your side!
i'm just pissed off at DiS being so predictable and picking them for their "hate figure". There are a million much worse bands to hate yet dis chooses to hate Oasis, Red hot chili peppers and any other band they can all agree is mainstream enough to be cool to hate and something which they can site some bullshit reason like "I just hate mediocrity, you know?" as an excuse to "hate" a band. Then they all jerk each other off while listening to a myriad of much, much worse bands.
And a lot of people probably know NOTHING about RHCP. They've got over 10 albums for gods sake. If you've heard "cant stop" and think it's hilarious to quote a line from it (Omg a silly lyric! Can you believe it's not about DEADLY SERIOUS BUSINESS?) and think you're entitled to hate it, you're WRONG.
I bet dis hates offspring too!
I do think you are defending them though, but rightly so, there's doesn't really seem to be any reason why they should be singled out as hate figures, other than their music isn't very cool these days, which is probably what it ultimately boils down to. Also the idea that someone else had that its because they've spawned a load of shit copyist bands is frankly idiotic.
plus theres eps compilations and b-sides albums
don't make me wikipedia the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
What Hits, Out In LA and all that crap don't count!
so strictly speaking its 9 studio albums
It's stupid to say you have a band with 9 studio albums when you've only heard 1, at least (guntrip)
everyone on here does that sort of thing though. Often I read what people have written and think 'have they heard this band at all?'
Arguing over Red Hot Chili Peppers Albums. Serious. I should probably quit this site :)
I only said nine hoping for a big long angry reply. Hopefully there's one on the way now!
that they got famous by putting socks on their cocks (and now get angry when asked about those days) shows how utterly gash they are.
THEY CAN FUCK RIGHT OFF.
because they sing about sex and probably have sex and you can do pelvic thrust dancing to them and they make my willy feel small
I mean, obviously the whole point of crossing punk music with funk music was to produce something completely cerebral with songs about the nature of art and post structuralism. Red hot chili peppers, with their sex-shouting and guitar solos have completely missed the point of their own music.
I do like a lot of the Chili Peppers stuff, i think BSSM is a great album and each one after has at least few corkers on them. I thought Stadium Arcadium could've been a good single album rather than crap double one. I'm hoping Frusciante does some more solo stuff, he's done some great albums.
And i can't believe i said "corkers". I'm going to get lynched.
Can we start again??
In fact one of the most rational and un-bandwagony in this thread.
