Anyone know who the support is?
...last night in Cambridge. Bit like Black Angels with a very very very foxy singer.
Looking forward to this, should be a good one, altho it will be a new album heavy affair what sort of back catalogue tracks do you reckon we can expect, Id rather here Walking with Jesus and the like rather than say Come Together.
a new album heavy affair. they did play 'walking with jesus' and 'take me to the other side'. they also played 'shine a light' and 'take your time' amongst others...
Work keep sending me away whenever Spiritualized play London. C*nts!
My brother listens to them and thinks they're the dog's bollocks.
But whenever I hear them, its either really really good, or really poor.
There's one that lasts for a while, a really simple sort of riff, possibly track 3 on Ladies And Gentlemen... I think that's one of the best things I've heard.
But then there's all the droney, boring stuff that could be done by anyone. I really don't like them.
is probably their best song, although you may mean track 2... i dunno though i guess i like all the droney boring stuff as well so may not be the best judge. you might like let it come down more as it has more actual 'songs' and gospel stuff on it.
both track 2 and 3 are runners for best song of the 90s.
I'm so, so excited about tomorrow. Songs in A&E is so amazingly beautiful. Plus i've only seen them once (last year at Glasto doing acoustic mainlines) and juding by the albert hall record i can only imagen how good they sound live....
I saw the start of their set at Glasto last year and they were doing that. I didn't like it.
That song "lord let it rain on me let it all rain down..." etc. I don't rate it at all.
One of their songs, possibly the newest one, sounds like '7 Seconds', by that horrid voiced guy and the woman.
it was to yell at the sound guy or something. He definately was only talking to the sound guy!
I Think I'm In Love/Lord Can You Hear Me as the encore really was off the scale on brilliant.
too much amazing grace but who cares. It was a really great gig. Was worried about the sound at first but You Lie You Cheat into Shine A Light was stunning!
I'm going to see them next week and was worried about those interview comments about it being ruined by ICU =(
seemed much the same as always.
was a good show but a real lack of the early stuff
but an overall feeling of "was that it?"
Too many Amazing Grace tracks. The best stuff was all the oldies like Take Me To The Other Side (gig highlight), Come Together, Let It Flow, Shine A Light (gig highlight #2) etc. The rest lacked a certain something I can't quite put into words. Put it this way, it was nowhere near as levitaional as the RAH shows or as emotional as the Acoustic Mainlines. Also sullied by a complete idiot yelling out wrong lyrics, chanting Piercey, Piercey, and genrally being a prize twat. He was in sunglasses. He deserves to wake up and find he's wet the bed.
Fuck have I missed Spiritualized.
Considering this was one of their first live electric shows in 4 (??) years, they were off the scale. 2 hours solid, Jason was floating, voice as good as ever, slightly croaky once or twice.
Band were tight although a couple were new members. 4 brilliant Gospel singers who were amazing singers and actually seemed to be loving it.
I was suprised how many tunes they played from Amazing grace but I think it's a great lp. After all it wasn#'t a greatest hits retro set.
Jason seemed really taken back at the end, I've never seen him clap the crowd so enthusiastically.
After the illness and the steady comeback that was one of the most emotionally perfect shows I've ever seen.
Thought the crowd were a bit shit. Not much enthusiasm, only about 6 of us dancing at the front by the end. didn't see the guy in glasses, at least he was having fun!!
Really enjoyed it, but not "levitational" as you say.
Also agree the crowd were a bit shit. Much more subdued than I expected. Although a few people near the bar on the right where we were were getting into it as we were.
That doesn't scan very well does it.
is a fine line when at gigs. He was a dickhead, people giving him daggers and grumbling, I asked him to pipe down and got a load of abuse. He was even singing Broken Heart during one song, which they didn't play. Add on to that he kept singing lines before even Jason did and you've got yourself a complete twat on your hands. Even his mate was telling him to shut up. Or was he just having fun Rev?
I can't be done with the Spiritualized version of Walkin With Jesus either. Long live the Spacemen 3 one, far superior.
I was about 10 rows back and could see one guy bouncing up and down during the Take Me To The Other Side freak out, wearing a hat or hood. Was that you Rev? The crowd, bar the incessant chatterers and Mr Dickhead in Sunglasses, was good I thought. Rapturous applause and all that kinda appreciation. Not everyone goes along for a bop, personally I like to savour Spiritualized live with a gentle sway or furious head nod/foot tap depending on the song ;)
stand back and enjoy. I can understand the going mental for Take Me To The Otherside though
the guy yelling was an absolute n00b. I could even hear him on Lord Can You Hear Me. What a fucking idiot.
Albert_Swearengen pretty much sums it up, would add that the new album tracks played sounded really good and Walking With Jesus was another highlight, as per usual. However, I'm no gig snob, but the wally count in koko last night was unusually high; what is it with people that just continually talk through the quiet parts of songs?
Stop moaning about Amazing Grace, those songs were great!
Crowd a little twatish. Especially one guy who kept singing along to the quiet bits.
I don't mind enthusiasm, but seriously, i wish people would tone it down when its inaaporpriate. Spiritualized are not a 'moshing' band.
That was fucking amazing, definately the highlight of the night for me. Wham! Bam! Thankyou Spaceman!
I always get a bit defensive on this subject. I love to dance at the appropriate times at gigs and with a band that means as much to me as Spiritualized do, then I’m going to show my emotion loud and proud. What annoys me most is when you’re stood in the front three rows and someone has a go at you for dancing. I believe if you want to dance stand near the front, if you can’t stand people dancing move back a bit.
I was singing loud last night, arms aloft for most of the gig. Started about 4 rows back on the left and finished with a passionate bunch at the front on the right.
Hope I didn’t offend anyone, but if you can’t sing out loud and dance around to your favorite band at a gig, when can you?
I seem to be the only DiSer to be completely ignorant of everyone else at gigs.
I tend to stand there and just absolutely switch off to everyone else. Most the time I just stand and smile and love everything, and feel happy for the people dancing, like a hippy. I rarely go to gigs, and only ever see the BEST people, so if these fans are buzzing off such good music, they clearly know where its at.
its just that people want to watch the band. its not like you;ve been hired as their backing singer:-)
The jumping wasn't so bad, but really, you should not be louder than the man on stage in your singing...
sounds similar to the cambridge show in terms of very good, but not mindblowing. certainly wasn't as captivating as the acoustic mainlines tour (particularly the shepherd's bush show, which i thought was better than the first union chapel one) and a very different show to seeing them at Reading Festival in 2002, which was incredibly progressive/shoegaze.
Odd to hear they had 4 singers at Koko though, we only had 2 singers at Cambridge, the stage was a little cramped, but surely room for 2 more singers.
And we similarly had some twats near the front there too "go oooooon jason!", hmmm
go ooooon Jason? Please tell me.
Also Reading 02: If my memory serves me right was not one of their best gigs. Jason wasn't particulalry into it and almost seemed to be a 'fuck you' set to casual fans who didin't know the back catalogue.
the crowd a cambridge was ok, nothing too annoying, then again i was very very stoned at the time....
generally has a decent crowd, unless you go and see someone who has loutish fans in general.
Apparently the lineup is to change throughout the tour. The strings might show up, but you'd normall expect that to happen in London but hey. Jason was on 6 Music the other week and didnt really sound like he knew what was going on.
