Everyone's got one. I've a couple - Super Furry Animals "Phantom Power" and Hidden Cameras "smell of our own".
nirvana - nevermind
or beatles - revolver
...I think both of them are pretty much rated!!
I'm talking about any albums you think should've got more claim than they actually received.
baby chaos - love your self abuse
The Bed is In the Ocean.
Scenes from the Second Storey.
I can never find any God Machine!
Actually love this album.
Deep Dense Metal plus clean soulful vocals plus intelligent world-weary lyrics plus huge orchestra sound on some tracks.
It is very hard to find now though :(
by Rumble Strips and Colour It In by the Maccabees are both really good pop records. Much under appreciated.
I don't think I've heard nearly enough music to make that judgement.
Listen to it pretty much every day
On The Might of Princes - Sirens
Frodus - ...And We Washed Our Weapons In The Sea
Amazing! Saw them live once (4/5 years ago?) supporting someone like Hell is for Heroes and thought they were fantastic, followed them until their eventual demise but sadly never saw them again. Will have to dig this out of my old 'puta. Icarus was Bored, no?
That particular song isn't on Pilots though. If you have that record, get it out again.
The Weddoes get a lot of love on here, but I don't understand why this album isn't held up as a modern alt-rock classic, alongside Spiderland and Daydream Nation.
It's just fucking brilliant! Guitars that crunch and buzz, great songs, even more despair than is usual for Gedge, Steve Albini ... utterly utterly amazing.
Maybe it's not held in such high esteem as it's so different from their other output. It's not a definitive album. Maybe?
self titled debut and one and only album.
But it's just so good!
Maybe if they'd carried on trying to write the same kind of thing it would have got boring quickly.
In fact, I think the way it's a kind of odd detour from Gedge's fairly straightforward approach to music actually helps the album. Keeps it fresh, and lets it stand on its own a little.
I fell in love with the record the moment the distortion kicks in on "Dalliance". :)
I've gotta go out for some swill now. But shall get back to you on this.
I fell in love with it during Suck by the way. I thought Dalliance and Dare were flukes of greatness!
Oh, the guitars on "Suck" are so good: dhurDhurDHURDHURRRRRRR! Or something. Very hard to render using only letters.
I've had a bit of a think about it and this is my conclusion: If it hadn't been produced (sorry...recorded) by Steve Albini I think it would be considered a 'classic'. His influence, great though it may be, can sometimes detract from the band's merits.
While Steve Albini's 'production' does generally produce a tremendous sound, he's famous/notorious (so I'm told) for refusing to actually involve himself in the creative process. As such, the songs themselves are all Gedge and the Weddoes, and the album lives or dies on them. And the songs on Seamonsters are outstanding!
As an example, the Albini verion of Brassneck has a similar sound on the guitars and (particularly) drums, but isn't a Seamonsters style song. I agree that there's a tendency for people to treat Albini-recordings as somewhat apart from a bands other work, but a poor collection of songs would result in a record that sounds good but isn't great. Seamonsters certainly is great.
Take your pick from their 3 albums.
All underappreciated in the extreme.
Was nowhere on the end of year best of lists, which is a disgrace as I reckon its their best album ever. I know theres a lot of BRMC haters on here, but you can get fucked.
Cable - When Animals Attack.
probably not the most underrated of all time though
I agree totally.
Ballboy - A Guide for Daylight Hours
I dont know maybe its just me :/
'not of all time' just an underrated album >_<
or indeed Attack Of The Grey Lantern.
not many people do.
"Bon Chic Bon Genre"
Fucking fantastic album.
"Avant Hard" by Add N To (X)
Pretty much nailed the dance-rock thing absolutely perfectly, and did it at least a couple of years before indie kids started properly pretending to be into dance music. Only it got a lukewarm reception, and everybody said that the Nite Versions remix album was better (it was amazing, but not better). If Any Minute Now came out tomorrow it would be huge. Guaranteed.
I haven't listend to it in ages.
the mighty COPPER BLUE by Sugar.
It was totally not underrated at the time (album of the year 1992 by NME for example) but has been totally forgotten and did not end up being particularly influential. A victim of fickle fashion.
Seriously, Copper Blue is in my top three ever alongside some Pixies bollocks and maybe some Radiohead nonsense so if you don't have it then get it.
Okay this track is off Beaster but you'll still love it.
suedeheadscot, i totally agree with you. Phantom Power it is!
agree with this too
Longpigs - The Sun Is Often Out
Greatest album of all time.

Prolapse - The Italian Circus
Arab Strap - The Red Thread
Primal Scream - XTRMNTR
Au Pairs - Sense and sensuality
Ikara Colt - Chat and business
Orbital - In Sides
Agree with the sentiments above too about Underworld, Ash and Campag Velocet...
But nearly everyone I know thinks it's their second or third worst record?
