album version vs single version
single version is usually better right? except for crappo seventies edits where they just fade out or rip out half of it.
two examples to start you off:
kings of leon - california waiting
the single version is about 200 times better, in fact when i realised it wasnt on the album i took it back.
rocket from the crypt - lipstick
the single version is twice as fast and so twice as good!

....
a lot of single versions edit out the swearing whihc fucks me off.
Album version better
Hmm...
SFA - Something For The Weekend?
I was going to think of more but I can't.
You're probably right.
I'm glad you put in the 70s disclaimer
cos I can think of several Bowie tracks that were mutilated just so.
I never pay attention to single releases anymore...do bands still put out different versions (obv, I guess)?
Give me 'n Jamie some more examples, plz, I'm curious...
guided by voices
put out different versions of the singles from alien lanes and bee thousand and under the bushes...
...
didn't You! Me! Dancing! have a single edit, maybe I'm just confusing radio edits and single edits.
you surely aren't talking about Young Americans?
SUUUUURELY?
Single 'edits' also bad..
For example there is a 3 minute version of Beautiful Life by Gui Boratto which completely destroys the point of the 8-min original.
LCD Soundsystem
The single version of All My Friends cuts off the long piano-only intro. I can understand why, but I think it's a really effective way of leading the song in, so it upsets me.
I agree
bout the 70's thing, well 60's actually...Vanilla Fudge "You Keep Me Hanging On" single version kicks ass, album version = snooze-a-thon.
I prefer the album version of
Left To My Own Devices, because it's got more of the insane orchestral arrangement (which apparently the Pet Shop Boys hated, so they cut it out for the single).
Heretically, I prefer the single version of Mansun's Being A Girl, which stops abruptly at about 2 mins long and doesn't have the extended second section.
agree on the first
i always prefer the PSB single versions
disagree on the second
Lazarus by the Boo Radleys
The single edit's an extended version and is even more majestic than the one on Giant Steps
Single versions better than album ones
Bjork - All Is Full Of Love
Shellac - Crow (7" version is way way better)
Les Savy Fav - Reprobates Resume
Super Furry Animals - Slow Life
Mono - Karelia (Does that count?)
Wire - Chairs Missing (because it's longer)
A 3 minute version of 'Beautiful Life'??? That's disgusting
Not really the single version, but the radio version of
No Cars Go by Arcade Fire
They cut so much of it out, it ended up barely 4 minutes long, and just completely ruined the song!
Which reminds me...
Why the fuck does 'Champagne Supernova' get the full 8 minutes played on mainstream radio? It's not even a single is it?
Album better example...
Sweet Child O Mine.
:O
Please may I have an MP3 of the faster version of Lipstick?
Which ALSO reminds me...
Breeders - Son Of Three (single version)
argh
cant find my copy
seek around, its well worth it
Broken Social Scene
'Major Label Debeut' is another example of the single version being wayyy better than the album one
DVNO.
Prime example.
