Lights (Drag City) Live
Voice Of The Seven Woods (Twisted Nerve) Live
Café Oto. Price £3.
Perhaps when the ground opened and Hades plucked Persephone from the sunlit earth, Brooklyn band Lights' music was the soundtrack. The combination of effervescent vocal harmonies and fuzzy guitar conjures the image of Death courting the maiden - that kiss of both darkness and light, the roughness against the softness. In the Fall of 2007 Lights found themselves in Greg Weeks' (Espers) Hexham Head studio in Philadelphia. With some analog tape and a little help from their friends, the band wove together this their self-titled LP.
Voice Of The Seven Woods
Five eventful summers have passed since the young Rick Tomlinson stumbled in to Manchester's vivid musical landscape as a vinyl hungry psyched-out sidekick to Andy Votel and Dom Thomas on their formative Twisted Nerve radio show. The self taught jack of all musical trades has since drawn influence from an oblique archive of obscure LPs and bizzare instruments and forged his own unique approach to making music. A potent cocktail of krautrock, folk, jazz, tropicalia and Welsh progressive rock has seduced stalwarts of Manchester's alternative music scene into countless collaborations with Rick at the helm.
