Guide to minimal techno
Been getting into Minimal techno via a friend from Germany
I only have Cobblestone Jazz, Ricardo Vollobas and Trentemoller and wondered if people had recommendations/ links for good minimal tec
I have to admit I hated the stuff at the start due to the lack of endeavour and guitars plus the monotonous tones but turns out it's quite good to study to and I'm slowly being converted.
Couldn't find a DiS guide, something worthy of for the future?!
Anyway get posting links/opinions and recommendations

Trentemøller
why has this thread got so little replies
there was 699
last time I saw it...
this is very odd.
they're still there
if you look at the thread through the old board.
i don't think new DiS can cope with a thread of this size
spooky
I saw some people bumping old threads on the social board with 1000's of replys. But DiS is going a bit loopy today it seems...
whats happened to our beloved thread!!!!???
not too sure what happened
and why it has added double posts but it's back, alive and kicking now. sorry about that.
btw guys you should check out (if you haven't already)
some of the ten year anniversary Circoloco mixes.. iv heard good things about the tanzmann one, and the Arpiar one is awwwwesome (its the only one iv heard so far) really deep intricate and pretty minimal.. great stuff..
Yeah the Arpiar mix is great.
I like the one that doesn't start with Pedro's Tanzmann remix best - mainly because I don't know any of the tracks!
Anyone coming to see Arpiar on Saturday? Its at the Coronet which is a kinda weird choice for a venue.
Yeah the Arpiar mix is great.

Quadruple reply!
The new board is rubbish.
yeah iv only just noticed that that is happening!
playing a gig though which sucks althoug its not far away. i would like to see pedro on his own im not as huge a fan of the two 'r's really.
yeah thats the mix i prefer too. have you heard any of the other ones thought_dreams?
Circo Loco 10 year party in London on Saturday

nice
i will have a looksy
Are any of the northern DiSers
going to Seth Troxler & Ms. Fitz in Leeds on Friday? I am quite tempted...
you should listen to the troxlers bunker podcast.. really good, starts of quite deep then gets more techno towards the end
very enjoyable.
^ http://infernal-techno.blogspot.com/2008/09/bunker-podcast-33-seth-troxler.html
i was a bit tempted too,
never having been to anything like this before. But getting mates to pay that much for a techno night is probably not in the realms of possibility.
this may be a good opportunity now this thread is smaller
I saw Four Tet play some mesmerising minimal techno the other day. One of which was Supermayer's "Two of Us". Who do i need to listen to? Give me some starting points. (please... haha).
good god I'm trying to think where to start
Villalobos and his insane organic grooves are still some of my faveourite music ever.
and in particular Fizhurer Zieheuer
that's my favourite
I wish I grabben that on viynal
or CD for that matter but I still haven't got round to it, its pretty damn epic.
argh, all that techno- gone! rubbish.
oh well...
got my ticket for M_nus warehouse project t'other day though... awesome.
sweet
that will be a good night.
I think this thread is alright if you look at it thru the old DiS site thingy, so I'm told anyway.
techno gone... sad.
well check it out nick sole and pedro cali. also this Rodriguez Jr remix of the Pedro Cali ep is worth a listen for something a bit different: http://del.interoute.com/?id=3289b20d-7aac-45c1-b47b-39ddd33aa8ab&delivery=download

Minimal not 'minimal'.
Mike Parker.
Deepchord.
Mika Vainio.
Baby Ford.
Stewart Walker.
Jasper.
Kit Clayton.
Max Duley.
Rob Alcock.
Robert Hood.
Steve Rachmad.
DJ T1000.
Phase.
65D Mavericks.
Portable.
Sutekh.
Twerk.
These folks pretty much eat the current Cologne/Berlin/Ibiza set alive. Some Sleeparchive stuff is good though.
FREE legal minimal downloads
in my profile ive got a list of some netlabels where u can get free & legal tunes.. fair bit of minimal, plus some dub techno & other stuff too..
also try
Gabriel Ananda, The Black Dog, Dan Ghenacia, Guy Gerber, Pig & Dan, Richie Hawtin.. some of these are more minimal than others but worth checking out.
Gabriel Ananda
had a minted EP out on Trapez a while back. Beautiful little pingy globular synths etc. Some of his stuff is a bit drab though.
what was it called ?
I love Bambusbeats I have to say..
Miricel Whop EP :)
It's good too.
jesus, i think i just splooged
finally! someone on here who started a thread which isn't about some obscure crap indie band!!! yessss!!
definitely get your hands on the Deepchord album 'The Coldest Season'- incredible stuff.
Also, South America churns out minimal by the bucket load- there's Terrestre and his Nortec collective from Mexico ('Secondary Inspection' by Terrestre is just. amazing.) and from Argentina, there's the whole Igloo records crew. there are free EPs and albums on their website- http://www.igloo-rec.com.ar/
Seph, Genoud and QiK are recommended.
Monolake are IMMENSE.
That Gabriel Ananda was this, I think:
http://www.discogs.com/release/108303
It's the more techno-ey track that I love. Super-glacial, it is!
Also Heiko Laux is worth a butchers.
what monolake should i get?
i got their 'polygon cities' album and i'm not that impressed thus far, although it might be a grower and i might be a bit impatient!
what monolake record should i investigate next?!
I love pretty much all Monolake stuff
so it's a bit hard to recommend something specific. Also I have the 12"s and get confused as to how they were compiled for CDs. Try listening on Boomkat. Linear Atomium Remeniscence is a good start. Or try Rhythm & Sound/Basic Channel/Maurizio/Chain Reaction (all interconnected endeavours) for something a little bit warmer.
Wank.
'Reminiscence'.
ok cool, i shall investigate!
cheers!
ah, it feels good to talk about techno without someone going "isn't that 2 unlimited?"
^ this
I'm gonna check those
igloo rec ep's out cheers
wow yes
got this Genound EP on now its very good indeed
isn't it?!
amazing stuff.
the Lega album's pretty good too, although more IDM than minimal.
if you like Genoud, the Seph one is incredible!
got Seph on now ;)
it is indeed ace. I'm gonna get my ass downloading the rest of them as well. I shall keep my eyes on this lot. Thanx for the link.
no worries
they're doing some amazing stuff that lot- discovered them totally randomly via myspace one night as well- love it when that happens!!
That Igloo stuff
reminds me of things on Expanding Records and City Centre Offices. 'Tis nice.
Minimal rules
esspecialy in a club situation its a real force and is so mad seeing hundreds of people going mad to the slightest of changes. I dont know to many artists I'm afraid cos Im to poor to buy records at the moment so have fallen out of the scene. Ellen Alien's Sool comes out soon that will be special. Oh and I know sme peeps who do this http://www.ketoloco.com/ I keep meaning to go but its so far away from me. They know there dance music.
The Ketoloco
house parties in Leeds were supposed to be legendary! Pity I never went... Do you know if they still do these? Or just legal nights?
Well I think they do some after partys still
after the scala gig.. which is taking off really well. I'm pretty sure they still do stuff up north too soI'm sure they dont stop partying when the clubs closed they aint that kinda people hehe. they are an ace bunch the lot I've met really good laugh, I wana go to so many more of them.
...
hopefully i wont offend anyone by suggesting the following...
but i have a few fabric mix cds which are pretty satisifying as an entry level minimal thing. some of them are pretty old but i still enjoy them.
they are by...swayzak, m.mayer, tyrant, and ellen allien.
Agreed on Ellen Allien
Haven't seen From Here We Go Sublime by The Field mentioned yet - should be one of the first things you get, IMO.
Field
Day, Field Day, Field Day!
Mmmmmm.
swayzak and allien...
recommended.
my friend tom got me into minimal. i didn't know how i ever lived without it!
robert hood has a fabric out now which is supposed to be pretty good too.
oh, and Camea is also very good.
if you live in leeds, Audion in playing the faversham next sunday!
I love Robert Hood
he is one of the original Detriot Techno lot aint he? I really wana hear that new fabric mix by him.
It's not his best.
Check out the track 'The Metronome' for absolute fucking devastation.
nice one I shall do
;)
Also
'Minus' off Internal Empire. It is astounding in its simultaneous simplicity and complexity, and is possibly my favourite ever techno track.
And if you like that, anything off Mika Vainio's Sahko label. Takes up where this track left off and fucks right off into the ether. His stuff under the name 'Philus' is especially good.
Robert Hood is one of the legends of
second wave detroit techno. He co founded Underground Resistance with Jeff Mills and Mike Banks as well as helping to originate minimal techno.
Check out the Minimal Nation and Detroit One Circle EPs for some seriously banging early minimal. It's very different from minimal in the modern club orientated sense, focusing on repetition and groove rather than the busy percussive clatter of current trends. Check this interview for some interesting insights:
http://www.residentadvisor.net/feature-read.aspx?id=901
YES.
As I say, minimal rather than 'Minimal'.
Minimal Nation is great fo' sho.
Tyrant they are ace
not herd them in ages. I think I will go dig out theexcelent mix album 'No Shoes, No Cake' later
Check out...
The first Fabric cd Fabric 1 - Craig Richards, really boss cd. Also the tyrant mixes are also worth checking out (but not the fabric one as i thought it wasn't to great)
Both The Field and Deepchord Presents: Echospace
records are great. This Bliss by Pantha Du Prince, while not exactly minimal, is amazing too.
deepchord
hasn't been out of my cd player for a while.
stunning cd.
marc houle is also pretty cool. saw him at asylum & technique in leeds a few months back and it was pretty dark!
generally anything on M_nus gets a listen too
.
drumcell&audio injection...their kimmunicate ep is something else
For a bit of electro crossover
Andrea Parker and her Touchin' Bass label are worth a crack.
Sweet jebus!
Finally a Minimal Techno thread...
I love everything that Trentemoller has done, that guy is the shizz. Villalobos is playing at the Warehouse Project this Saturday (3rd May), but alas I cant go due to lack of funds...
Pantha Du Prince - This Bliss is immense!
Also check out Sascha Funke - Mango its pretty good!
yes to trentemøller
although his 'live' show was a bit hit and miss. stick to DJing Anders!!
i'm off to that warehouse project, muhahahahahaaaaa! this guy Raresh is supposed to be pretty good too- i guess i will find out at the weekend...
..
LET ALL SUCK ON THE TEET OF ALEX SMOKE.
Aaargh!
I'm jealous. If he plays his Blood On My Hands Remix, it will be freaking insane! The guy is a genius!
Personally
I think it's shite compared to Shackleton's original.
Villalobos & co used to be alright until Richie got that haircut. Now it all sounds the same to me.
Early Playhouse, Force Inc, Perlon, Kompakt, Trapez and Traum stuff is mostly decent but I don't really hear these labels and their ilk going anywhere new these days.
that means the doors are wide open...
cue worriedaboutsatan's new album, due later on this year which will be minimal techno... with guitars!
seriously though, it will.
I know.
They're good. My old band played with them in Leeds.
really? what was your old band?
i'm in worriedaboutsatan you see
Oh right.
twentysixfeet.
aaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!
i remember you guys!
awesome stuff.
Cheers.
Looking forward to hearing your album!

M4 is wicked too.
Definately check out
Stefan Bodzin, Leibe ist is the album and it is corkin..
Not sure if they file under 'minimal' but Booka Shade are great too IMO.
Trentemøller i've only just got into..
haha
tis my mix! not really that mnml though...
fairmont's 'palace pier' ep
was also very good.
check out 'trinity' from it- very deep indeed.
holden! shit, completely forgot about him!!! '1010101' is amazing!
Minimal
Rekorder (Huntemann + Bodzin project)
The techno releases on Tiga's Turbo label are always guaranteed goodness.

Also
Samurai FM is a great place for all things techno in general
cheers for all the links peeps
there seems to be a minimal techno core on DiS!
is this gonna be the next genre busting into the UK, after "math" and nu wave or is it too sophisticated or seen as boring to engender a scene, the germans are MAD for it and they usually cotton on to our trends a few months/ year after us!
is there such a thing as maximum techno or is that just childish?!
haha
i doubt it.
the amount of indie schmindie chin strokers on here is unbelievable- put them in a club and they'd either die on their arse or want to go home. either way, they ain't listening to minimal techno!
not when there's another boring, over-hyped indie band to splurge over!! hahahaaaaa!
sorry, just a bit excited that for once, someone's talking techno on here.
maximum techno? hahaha, i reckon 'moaner' by underworld. maximum to the max.
Maximum Techno! Partyzeit Ja?
Chris McCormack-Erase Techno
Pretty much fits that definition!
Justice and them lot are pretty MAXIMUM techno
there is some right noisey stuff around.
Minimal to my ears is pushing things forward and one of the best movemnts in dance music for a long time. Its been going for ages now I have soem Ritchie Hawtin records from the early 90s that sounded like much of the Minimal stuff today.
Keep up the Techno loving you lot hehe
cos is brilliant and exciting yay!
has anyone got a mixmag
'animal vegetable minimal' t-shirt?
surprised no-one's mentioned luciano yet.
my favourite ever minimal tune is possibly cerosin natalies 'ajjaaaajaaa', check it here... http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=329853328
its all about 'father' too, and his M83 remix is great also
agreed
on the amount of love for this thread.
good work that man!
i investigated the field, kompakt and soma's 200 release anniversary compilation last night and now have a pretty full list of stuff that i need to buy!! haha.
Rocking horse shit now,
but maybe you could download these from somewhere:
http://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=21777
http://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=18083
There are some small tasters here. Seriously amazing stuff.
right
im going to recommennd everyone the best album ive herd this year (by anyone), its a double cd (mixed) of original tracks and it's called ANIMALS and its by MINILOGUE and its AMAZING.. beautifully mixed and beautiful and hypnotic tracks...
it has the feel of a techno boards of canada..
the first cd is mainly tune based and the second had more ambient works.. iv not seen it in this thread but my god its awesome. GET IT!
id also recommend, thought this is straying slightly towards techno, the LOCO DICE album, (7 dunham place) SACHA FUNKES album (mango) and going a bit deeper, the ANDERS LLAR album (sworn) which is fntastic and so full of deep housy lushy lovliness that i had to mention it....
that is all.
Loco Dice
is ace I have some 12" of his really subtle and building stuff.
Minilogue Animals
sounds really interesting too I must look out for that.
also
check out the releases on Lucianos label - CADENZA, also one of my favroutite labels DIAL RECORDS (home of pantha du prince, efdemin, pigon etc) and also a new favourite REMOTE AREA RECORDINGS... all very good indeeed
M_nus compilations...
sweet jesus...
'Expansion Contraction'

'Minimise to Maximize'

That's the way!
Boomkat will make you poor.
haha, it's just taken £20 off me
and it's not even lunchtime...
boomkat
is the devil
I guess this aint realy miniml but its free
and I think you lot might like it.
http://www.adultswim.com/williams/music/ghostlyswim/index.html
I really like the Matthew Dear and the Michna tracks.
hes always been damn good
I have some records of his but no albums.
bummer
you should shout at them until they gve it back.
yay
fair play to him
Boris is a good lad.
Dear's other OTT techno project is in Leeds on bank holiday sunday...
Audion @ The Faversham!
should be a belter.
and a day after Villalobos at the warehouse project too!! haha. i will be knacked. but in the best possible way...
that sounds brilliant
I like seeing this thra come back maybe we will find some more Minimal fans.
agreed.
people are *still* talking about bands like dinosaur jr on here....
have they heard 'closer' by plastikman?!?!?!
haha I freakin love Plastikman
Hawtin rule! But then I haven't really listened to much Dinosaur Jr really do they have any Villalobos mixes?
Closer
is so very very good. Hawtin is one of the best live anythings I have ever seen.
gas
all the way.
zauberberg is fantastic.
samurai fm
is awesome! cheers for the link whoever it was! nice kitsune feed on there too!
zoink
just downloaded this steve reich stuff, awesome considering it's 40 years ago!!
http://drownedinsound.com/articles/3199467
twas me!
Yeah its fantastic, I wouldnt have a clue whats going on the world of techno without it.
I love this thread so much
I have been talking notes, and will ace the test.
a few more we had on in the car en route to a gig last night...
Stephan Bodzin - Treibsand
The Knife - We Share Our Mothers' Health (Trentemøller Remix)
Bobby Peru - Erotic Discourse
Trentemøller - Serenetti (Hermann & Kaden Remix)
and also the Fall/Absy EP by QiK is insanely good. very dark. that's a free download from www.igloo-rec.com.ar too, so go get it!
oh, and this little beauty too...
http://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=54700
oh yes yes yes
thats a banger reminds me of somat Dave Clarke would play
ahh yes that QiK EP is ace
been playing quite a bit of that Igloo stuff since you put up the link. thats a wiced mix of the knife too.
indeed.
i can't believe i completely forgot about that knife remix- it's up there with some of Trentemøller's best work for me.
that seldom felt is great isn't it? a lot harder than the minimal i usually go for, but man, it's incredible!!!
yeah I might have to get my cards out
Damn you boomkat and your exselent record collection.
It is pretty hard verging on the techno I love that about Minimal it seems to be able to fit into alot of diffrent styles of dance music. Its a god send to DJ's who dont wana stay on one genre like my self hehe
Villalobos at the warehouse project last night
was absolutely incredible.
josh wink was pretty good too, but ricardo was absolutely something else.
i didn't stop dancing from about 10.30 til at least 4.30... and today I have Audion at the faversham to attend!
yay!
Brilliant!
:)
Dont say that
I wish I had gone, I had a rubbish weekend. I need to go dance and get crazy! How was Audion?
.
today i have simply listened to rhythm & sound on repeat. in particular:
Smile (w/Savage)
and obsessively, the Sleeparchive remix of Dem Never Know, the synth arpeggiaton that comes in as it double times makes me tense guts.
Sleeparchive
Never heard anything by them, but it sounds good. Are playing at this:
http://www.residentadvisor.net/event-detail.aspx?id=51389
at Fabric, with Lee "Scratch" Perry
Isolée
needs some love on this thread.
I don't know why I've been ignoring this thread.
The most recent Resident Advisor podcast by Richie Hawtin is worth hearing as an introduction to minimal.
http://www.residentadvisor.net/podcast-episode.aspx?id=100
I knew there was more of ya Minimal lovers out there
This thread rules.
We should try get it in the DiS mail out hehe.
Audion
was fantastic!
twas uber minimal, but very effective.
shame there were so many dickheads there, but on the whole, a good night!
and i am well and truly fucked today...
in the last 48 hours i've seen ricardo villalobos, josh wink (twice- he was at audion last night so we said hi and gave him a cd!), raresh, audion, andro and dave martin...
haha your on a Minimal Mission
sounds brilliant. I went on a Maximum mission last night to see HEALTH that was ace too. Nice one for saying Hi to Wink he is a legend. My mate once gave Laurent Garnier a CD once wonder if he liked it... I really need to get to some more minimal happenings... I can see a ketoloco beign visited in the near future.
haha!
yeah, we walked past him as he went to the bar and i shouted "WINK!" really quite loudly and he turned around just as i was pointing at him and telling my friend tom "that's josh wink!!"
he was a really nice guy. he said he liked it in the fav as no-one knew who he was! quality stuff.
haha ace
You can't beat accidently shoting names of random underground techno producers and having a chat. I know someone who has pictures of them selves with Marshall Jefferson of Old School house fame hehe. Move Your Body!
I saw Audion in Bristol earlier this year
Big Hands were supporting Hot Chip at the Academy, then Matthew Dear did an Audion set at a smallish club. It was excellent.
just discovered
that i can get beatport at work.
oh shit.
www.beatport.com
I was gona bump this
this morning to mention steve bug but you beat me to it hehe.
Steve Bug
how did e forget Steve Bug?
his label Poker Fat... I think thats what its called is ace. There are some good minimal compilations on there. I love his acidy minimaly remix of chicken lips.
yeah
i've got one of those compilations- pretty good stuff. detroit grand pubah's 'big onion' is well funny!
trentemøller's on poker flat too isn't he?
I cant rember what label hes on
he's the head of poker flat
with tobias someone i think
sweet
(steve bug is that is)
trentmoller is on poker flat a lot though
jim have you checked out 'animals' yet?
its sooooo good!
I haven't no I cant seem to find it
its on amazon for pre-order but Iv not seen it any place else. I'm looking forward to hearing it.
goodo.
i got it on vinyl yesterday which i was very happy about.. you can find it on blogs though if you want a pre purchase listen
good point hehe
I think I will have a hunt today. It looks damn good.
found it and I'm spinning it right now
well half the first disc so far nd its wonderful. really warm sounding and a great range in styles already. I love the idea of a artist album that is also a mix.
yeah!
i totally agree, just listening to the tracks develop and mix into each other like that makes it even more amazing. such a good idea. really great to see hitchhikers choice used in it too, rekindled my love of for sure
thats an ac track
I love jamacia too and then all that comes after is super acid and beautiful.
yeah defo
i think 'we all' and 'in a distance' are my favourites, but i love them all! the title track has grown on me alot too, such great lines
beautifl album
Im not even at the end of CD one yet either hehe. Reckon it is gona be contnder for one of my albums of the year so far. I'm wwell getting this without a girl teling me its a promo rspect it on top.
haha yeah
stephen hawkings wife (as it were), she becomes more tolerable as you listen more i found. haha. yeah its number one for me this year so far. the second cd is even more beautiful too, if a little less beat driven.
you can get a the 1st and 2nd cd as one whole track without the promo voice on some blogs too i think, but there are no track marks which is a bit gay. the viynl i got for mixing has only got the best proper tunes on it too so i may have to but the cd as well i think. they deserve my contribution thats for sure!
damn right
yeah she does get more tolerable I think I'm starting to fancy her as well..... :S eeck. I am happy with this version untill I grab the CD copy.
just checked out minilogue
and sounds very promising thus far.
can't find 'animals' on beatport, but did have a listen to a few of their tracks and i was really liking it.
also, the top 10 minimal chart on beatport is amazing...
'miami push' by boris rush is no.1 and also very good.
so is no.4- marco corola's 'jackpot'
both of which i heard a lot of over the weekend!!
yeah im not sure its getting a digital release
for a while.. ill have to check out that chart though for sheezy.. check out 'small town beauty' if you havent already, on the same release as hitchikers choice.. gorgeous track.
..
ooh i like that 248km track.. nice to see evolve still up there too - what a tune!!
I found this as an excuse to bump
http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/feature/50476-the-month-in-techno
Its usualy a good read this column.
bumpy bump bump mmmmm minimal
ha, ace
just as i loaded the DiS page up, 'fall' by QiK came on.
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmminimal.
nice
I am loving that igloo stuff.
And so the best thread on DiS continues...
Beatport is amazing! I could spend all day on it.
Minilogue - Animals is excellent especially the second Ambient CD.
Check out Ellen Allien's Boogybytes Vol. 4 for some uninterrupted minimal mayhem :)
ah balls
i knew i had something to download last night!
come tonight i shall get animals by minilogue!
anyone know any good sites to not-really-legally get good minimal? soulseek and isohunt ain't what they were!
I aint sure where to get cheeky smapler
tunes from for minimal I'm worin on it and next time I see my step bro online I will ask him as he is good at finding that kinda thing as he Dj's out quite a bit nowadays.
this is awesome
and gets up dated all the time with new stuff..
http://hypnotic-techno.blogspot.com/
oh wow thanks that looks sweet
Viva La mmmmmmmmmMinimal!
One I've
just discovered thanks to the wonders of lastfm, Speedy J. Check out the track De-Orbit.
I have an epic epic tune by him
on 12" its like some kind of alien being from outa space. It is all over the place I dont have much of a beat or anything its mad.
that minus compilation came yesterday
my christ it's good.
very dark, but brilliant nonetheless.
everything on it is freaking amazing, but the troy pierce, gaiser and dubfire tunes are all worth mentioning.
go buy it here-
http://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=60416
looks good
cant beat the dark ones.
This thread
is brilliant and does not deserve to vanish.
I've spent the last 2 hours listening to stuff reccomended and I'm loving Pantha Du Prince & Sascha Funke. More please!
I dont think any of us are gonna let it die
don't you worry. I love playing this tune called: Bini & Martini - "Stop" (The Dolphins 0:6 remix)
http://www.junodownload.com/ppps/products/1218339-02.htm
oh and I love Juno for buyin records
they have a wicked stock and you can listen to clips. There is also a regualy updated top sellers charts in many genres including minimal.
...
I can't be bothered to read this whole thread to check if anyone has already reccomended Vladislav Delay, if they have then I concur and if they haven't then get hold of 'The Four Quarters' by him 'cos it's great.
I got this bliss by pantha du prince today and it's so so good
just to say
great thread
also check out stefan bodzin... oliver huntemann... rekorder.... marc romboy..
get the bodzin and romboy e.p with atlas, miranda etc. on. it's well worth listening too.
big love for bodzin
'treibsand' is amazing...
man, it's hard keeping this thread alive! especially when the rest of the board are talking about such fascinating topics as 'Glassjaw tonight - anyone want a ticket?', 'Can someone email me the damages disclaimer form for ATP vs Pitchfork?' and the classic 'Songs that make you want to fight people'....!!
come on, keep this alive damnit!
i shall keep it alive
and urge everyone to come to the t-bar tomorrow night for the phonica night! should be really good!
hello minimal peeps
http://images.cafepress.com/product/20356209_240x240_Front.jpg
Magda Make The Tea.
...
http://cocoonstyled.web-log.nl/cocoonstyled/images/richiericardo.jpg
haha
that's ace!
i like magda. she's hot too, which is always a bonus!
you could have a rival mug 'Camea, get the Coffee on'
haha
I also fancy Tania Vulcano a little bit.
gutted :(
The minimal soap opera that is http://www.ubercoolische.com/ seems to no longer be there :( I did find an artical about it though.
http://www.365mag.com/index.php?pg=news&recnum=2552&Title=Villalobos%2C+Magda+and+Hawtin+Minimal+Soap+Opera+Continues+on+365Mag+International+Music+Magazine
a small sample of the greatness that was on it hehe
Ricardo: Hi Together everybody! I'm here! (looks flustered). Here Richie, here is the remix I did!!
Richie: (putting on cd, they all listen intently..) "Silence"
Ricardo: (smiling broadly) Its my most minimal work yet!!
Magda: Wow its like totally minimal!
Richie: This is kinda too minimal, don't you think? I mean... ..it kinda lacks, beats, percussion, rhythm in fact anything at all really...
Ricardo: Well you did say do something minimal Richie!
Richie: I had the cdr for 6 months Ricardo! I'm Richie Hawtin!
ha! that's ace.
shame it's not there! although i'm sure it'll be knocking about on the internet somewhere, right?!
I have been looking and can't find it :(
maybe its gone so underground it hurts?
Which reminds me
Abe Duque - So Underground It Hurts...
is a ace acid style verging on the minimal record. He helps produce with DJ Hell some times, who is also awsome.
alive
just got the new ellen allien album - sool. not sure what to make of it yet. also i got that expansion contraction minimal mix... it's very minimal. so get it.
also get these...

there's a six act minus showcase including hawtin, magda and marc houle.
really looking forward to chloe 'live'.
i want to go to sonar
so badly.. but i cant. damn it!
Radioactive Man - Growl
is out and although its not strictly minimal its is damn well worth a listen for some electro ravey dance techno yeah what I have heard so far is freakin ace. I love this guys stuff. You can stream some of the sonsg from here is your interested....
http://www.trashmenagerie.com/blog/2008/05/17/radioactive-man-album-growl-out-now/
oh yeah BUMP! minimal pose!
this thread is
about the most useful thing i have read all month. slowly getting into this stuff but the only bits i've so far been aware of were matthew dear/audion, richie hawtin [in a big way], the field [as of friday afternoon, driving down to ATP], ellen allien [i like the stuff she does with apparat too] and trentemoller.
i am going shopping.
nice one
Glad this minimal pose of techno lovers are helping out. I'm sure once summer getting going and Ibiza and all that start kicking off some mad tunes will start apearing too.
You are all brilliant and I love you all
My friends are officially bored of me banging on about having just discovered minimal techno.
Loving Deepchord and Monolake.
Thanks to you all!
spread the love!
:)
More!
Check out Bodycode
www.myspace.com/bodycodemusic
this is really nice
summary and warm... even got some vocals in there too.
:)
Hes playing at Corsica Studios on the 11th too
of July that is
Shit
No mention of Alex Under either. http://www.last.fm/music/Alex+Under
Check out "Dispositivos de Mi Granja"
Time for a bump
I really need to share a couple of albums that I recently discovered.
Nôze - Songs on the Rocks
http://www.residentadvisor.net/review-view.aspx?id=5235
- French band combining the sounds of minimal with jazz and other weirdness. Never heard anything like it, in a good way.
discJokke - Staying In
http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/record_review/49704-staying-in
- Ok, this isn't minimal, but it's a really, really fantastic album which you simply HAVE to check out if you're reading this thread.
*disKjokke
argh
oh yeah that other one looks worth checkin too
nice one :)
Nôze – Songs on the Rocks
sounds interesting I'm gona get on that one.
^ both these records fucking kill
I just grabbed them cheekily for a quick listen
and the DisKjokke album is really really good :) he did an ace mix of Lykke Li that I think was on Pitchfork recently.
Noze is a little cheesey in parts but there are some killer tunes on it still.
Glad you have enjoyed them
I highly recommend the self titled Datassette album too, it's available for a cheeky grab at the moment, wasn't a couple of weeks ago :)
ahh that is the alias of Datashat
he did an ace mix of Grandmaster Flash The message mixed with... B.W.H. Stop which is a proper old ace tune... all mshed up in a bootleg its ace.
i'm back!
i've been away on tour for 2 weeks so i've not had chance to keep up to date with this, The Greateast Thread In The World™
anyway, Expansion Contraction is amazing. also i've been listening to nothing but Dubfire's 'Rig Cage' and Swayzak's 'Smile and Receieve' for a very long time...
welcome back!
Hope the tour went well?
I have been mostly spinning Sool still... I could do with gettin on some moe new minimal lovleyness.
yeah me to Im as skint as a bastard :(
ill be interested to hear
what you think of sool... i dont think it even comes close to bubbles - obviously they are quite different, but still.
I like Sool
It does what its trying to do very well, though I prefer Orchestra of Bubbles. Zauber is an awesome track, with what I'm guessing is a bass clarinet? Really loving Liebe Ist by Stephan Bodzin, so thanks to those who recommended it...
I have an ace remix by Swayzak
of a track by FC Kahuna Glitterball I think its called from quite a while back now but that remixis well phat
that fc kahuna
album is superb, machine says yes. not minimal, quite acidy. mind set to cycle is incredible.
yeah it a good one
I saw them DJing around the time of that release and they were so good.
not strictly minimal
in any sense really, but an amazing piece of dance music nonetheless-
Electric Deluxe's 'Electric Deluxe (Smith and Selway remix)'
sweet jesus, i've not heard a breakdown like that since 'Moaner' by Underworld, which is sounds a bit like come to think of it...!
Underworld! now there's a band. 'Beaucoup Fish' still stands up as an amazing piece of work, despite being a decade old. superb!
Yeah man Smith and Selway make some ace stuff
really pounding loopy techno with bad ass breakdowns...
your right about Beaucoup Fish too that is an ace album. the Tune bruce lee always cracks me up...
Life kid drink from the box
The juice kicks up
Life kids sucker
Box drink
Yeah
Bruce lee
haha
or elsewhere on the album...
snake fighting
it's very scary,
fighting a snake.
heheh
its full of brilliant lyrics that album.
all very nice but....
It's all a bit dated isn't it? I mean I was clubbing to this at Tresor in Berlin in the late 80's! the sound hasn't cahnged at all - just squidgy analogue and 808 /909s. strange how things come back around, but just to put you all straight before you get too excited - this stuff is not new, nor is it particularly original. Speedy J was on Harthouse ages ago, Novamute records used to be good (Plastikman), and pretty much anything that came out of Berlin from 86-92 was probably better than stuff around now cos there was no digital signal paths envolved - all analogue. Sorry to piss on your bonfires guys...
I dont think we were sayin its a brand new sound
I love all that old stuff too. I'm a huge fan of the old Detriot sound and Hawtin has been making these kinda tunes for a redicules amount of time. I think we all just love it... nowt wrong with a good old 808/909/303 anythime for me.
oh and even if the sound has been around for freakn ages
t doesnt men it aint exciting and pretty much more forwad thinkin that alot of music around at the moment.
abso-bloody-exactly
no-one said this was a brand new discovery or anything, just that we happen to like it, and for some of us, we're just getting into it. nothing wrong with that!
your damn right
I think even early in the thread we were chattin about the detriot techno influence from the late 80s.
Oh and lots of peeps on an indie site are beginniers so ya know gota spread the love.
Minimal rules and techno always has yay!
I love this thread.
I know it's been mentioned but Rekorder, specifically Rekorder 10.1 is sublime. Hot Chip played it at their ATP dj set and I was in my elephant.
Solomun & Stimming are well worth checking out too. Epic deep minimal from Hamburg.
Huntemann's new one 'La Boum' is pretty ace too.
I keep mean to get Rekorder 10.1
I'm on the case thanx for reminding me.
I love it when Hotchip decide to stick some minimal in good on um for mixing it up.
Steve Bug
his Fabric mix from a while back is very good.
http://www.thesilentballet.com/dnn/Reviews/2008/March/tabid/126/ctl/Details/mid/546/ItemID/1218/Default.aspx
Also this
http://hmv.com/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?ctx=280;-1;-1;-1&sku=560397
is very good to get a grounding in the music.
don't know if you call it minimal
but it's on matthew dear's ghostly label- evenmore by osborne. the best techno record i've heard in yonks. still on mary anne hobbs radio 1 listen again at the 1 hr 2 min mark.
good to hear start maconie play joey beltram energy flash yesterday, too.
did any of you see model 500 at the london bangface? not heard any reports yet.
I love Ghostly Stuff
I had no idea it was Matthew Dear's label either... I will go and check out that cheers.
Energy Flash is so good still fits into techno sets today.
i got it wrong
don't think dear owns ghostly, but he's put out lots on it.
ahh well
its still awsome. there is a free ghostly compilation about with a dear track on it amongst others its called Ghostlyswim its wicked.
matthew dear's 'don and sherri'
from asa breed is just immense. i heard it again last night and it's just lovely!
apart from one sons, i think that osbourne is pants
in fact it rather tarnishes ghostlys excellent catalogue imo
the beatport minimal top 10
looks like this...!
1. the sloop - hugo
2. manjala - two EM
3. 2 quite - format:b
4. strangers cliff - johan ilves
5. apprentice - heartthrob
6. reflections in plexiglass - phunkarique
7. loverboy - steve bug
8. toucan - prompt
9. esmerelda - topcats
10. jackpot - marco carola
that johan ilves tune is immense!!
nice one
I will head over there now and cry as I have no money ehehe
can someone sum this thread up for me please
thanks
erm, go listen to minimal techno
there you go.
Minimal Rules!
thats about it really.
i am probably wrong
but is minimal techno a bit like house music bu without the kick in?
hmmm not really
it's a bit like house, but very stripped down (hence the word 'minimal') but it's not about kick ins, or drop downs or anything. it's about subtle variations, be them dynamic or instrumental, over a stretched out period of time.
it's all about not realising what's happened until it's happening.
your pretty wrong almost
It is a kind of Techno/house hybrid yet very subtle..... I say subtle the tunes have a hell of a kick and the bass will often crush you... but the arrengments are subtle in that they build gently and as the grove builds and builds you get carried off in it .... its a physical experiance really this dance music gubbins. Go to fabric the dance floor acctual shakes... on purpose and the crowd are insane.. they cheer the most minute changes to a track and its like a fuckin mosh pit but with teh happyest people known to mankind...... you dont really touch the floor you kinda get lifted around the place hehe
That's the drugs though.
Not the music.
Although it annoys me when people say you have to take drugs to enjoy mnml; it's perfectly amazing without drugs, they just make it better.
I was well sober
I couldnt afford drinks and didnt fancy anything else.
I went to see Luciano play out on Saturday.
He was incredible. 5+ hours of truly deep house, techno & mnml. He has such uniquely identifiable sound and unlike Villalobos doesn't waste the firt few hour with largely derivative stuff, he drops off with the exclusive weird shit from the start.
His remix of Nina Simone's 'Sinner Man' is truly one of the greatest things i've ever heard on a dance floor.
that sounds awsome
Luciano is so good. My step bro raves about him after coming back from DC10 in Ibiza :)
damn you
i wanted to go to that so bad! i spanked my money on holden last week though. ill have to check that nina simone remix.
I don't know if it will ever come out.
What with liscensing issues and what not. Hopefully some bootlegs will appear on the internet shortly.
For now you'll have to be content with a two minute clip on you tube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8dw81iFdNo
He also played a few really tribal sounding house tracks with these massive African vocal melodies. I hope some of that stuff turns up on his Fabric mix.
yeah and how good does his fabric mix look!?
bloody awesome, i cant wait!
for some reason
luciano's always escaped my beady eyes and ears, but i've just had a bit of a sesh on beatport and i've come to the conclusion that he's freaking awesome...
i'll be downloading illegally tonight!
you need to get his essential mix
of a few months ago, really good (although got slammed on RA quite a bit) but has his m83 remix and father as the first two tracks - both of which are amazing
whoa, sounds good
i shall investigate.
'father' was one of the best tunes of his i thought.
You can get it here
https://freebase-records.com/shop-neu/frameset_neu.php?pbestnr=RAL1001
Yeah.
I saw that. A little creative googling led me some Mp3s of it. PM if anyone wants them.
I'm really digging these Rhadoo/Luciano/Villalobos/Petre Inspirescu 'unknown artist' bootlegs that are turning up at the moment. I need the Bjork one:
https://freebase-records.com/shop-neu/frameset_neu.php?windowsize=1024&
The St Germain 'Rose 2 Red' thing is lush too.
oi oi
went to see TWUNT from leipzig at preston's basement mezzanine marina club (off old hammer st) last night. minimal as fuck man. all he had on stage was a computer fan
Magda is in leeds on saturday
at space.
i think i'm going, anyone else...?
i really want to see magda
she is so hot too. her mixes (and productions) are just a little too minimal for me though
luciano's essential mix
is indeed, rather good.
i got that and False (which is matthew dear)'s album '2007' last night.
that was a good night...!
also, anyone heard Holden's remix of Nathan Fake's 'The Sky Was Pink'?
jeeeeeeeez. amazing stuff.
yeah
that's one of his best remixes... heard his madonna one? thats my favourite i think..
im not actually the hugest fan of that false album, just doesnt quite do it for me in some ways. but it is really good, obviously.
was listening to The Sky Was Pink remix
in the car on way to work this morning. I cannot tire of that track. Probably my favourite remix of music all-time. Absolutely incredible.
yeah
i just randomly heard it the other day after becoming seriously bored at work. it's ruddy bloddy good. i've not heard his madge remix, although that sounds intriguing...!
the false album i was really into actually, it's so deep and dark, it's incredible! that last track is terrifying too!
yeah man definately deep and dark
i ought to give it another listen actually..
also if you like deep and dark check out this weeks RA podcast from donato dozzy.. very deep and very dark and very good!
oooh cheers for the tip!
will do.
I need to listen to more of these
podcasts cheers for reminding me.
thanks!
Listening now.
me too
hell its deep and dark :)
i love this thread
fairly disillusioned with guitar stuff at the minute.
have bookmarked this and intend to work my way through it!
welcome!
it's a lot nicer and friendlier than a lot of the other DiS threads :-)
oooh, 'an ending (ascent)' by brian eno just came on my iPod... glorious...
indeed welcome
pull up a chair.... well you wont be needing a chair for long most of this stuff gets ya moving :)
Where's a good place to get hold of a lot of this?
Either legally or illegally?
these are good
http://www.boomkat.com/
https://www.beatport.com/
http://www.junodownload.com/
http://www.juno.co.uk/
Or the record labels them selves I guess.
Lovely
*thumbs up*
no problem
this blog is pretty good too
http://theeta-musictherapy.blogspot.com/
lots of stuff for free ;-)
that looks sweet
cosider it bookmarked
So I'm going
to Berlin next month, anyone been and care to reccomend the best places that play this stuff? I assume the Berghain is a given.
i so want to go..
its all about the panorama bar isnt it? i think it is..
Indeed
I've never been, there for 6 nights then off to Melt
http://www.meltfestival.de/
It could be the best week ever
oh damn you!
of ALL the festivals i wanted to go to that one the most!!
there's tresor and watergate
in berlin.
my friend went last year and said it was amazing... i think watergate is owned by richie hawtin too...
good luck getting in!
tried and failed twice
which?
panorama?
Yeah, fo sho
also try Weekend (try and check what night they have on). It's owned by one of Tiefschwarz, so it's well connected...very swish too.
I found a cool bar call 8mm (I think), just off Rosa Luxembourg Strasse, that was really cool, really laid back vibe, started the minimal stuff about 11pm...quite a small place though.
Johnny you're going to have to send at least
24 hours in the the Berghain if you want you're minimal medal.
I'm going with
2 friends who stayed awake for the duration of the Bangface weekend, Im up for the challenge.
A friend of mine DJs at Panorama
That's where you want to go.
Maybe try Watergate as well?
would anyone be interested
in hearing my essential mix i did for another forum?
it is a really nice summation of this thread in many ways, i think you would all really enjoy it! (its also got one of my tracks in it(JAG!))
it even has a pete tong intro!
me! me! me!
yes please :)
that would be wicked

the track list looks wicked. I have it on download right now then will have it cued up and ready to right after Loco Dice's new album ;) wich is wicked warm sublte and groovey as hell.
ah cool
la esquina is the best bit of piano tech-house iv heard in a long time, sooo nice!
just as I read this
that tune jut popped on.... it is indeed proper nice.
hehe nice
when that second piano comes in... oooh it makes me feel gooood!
yeah thats wicked
it reminds me of a Bushwacka! tune called Chorus on that ace 12" with Zebadee on the flip man thats a wicked 12"
looks good!
will download it when i'm home!
Subtle bookmark
Looks good.
K Maze!
I couldn't love that tune much more, I really thought he couldn't top Bell Clap Dance but...
(I love this thread)
heh totally man..
radio slave is my hero i think. that track is just so awesome, sounds like it was recorded in some wonderfully ethereal place where only the most beautiful musical creations are conceived!
i love farra > tau > k-maze, was really happy with how that sounded
whoa...
just checked out radio slave, and 'k maze' is freaking marvellous.
top bananas.
yeah man its gorgeous
though even more gorgeous is his remix of jamie anderson's 'time is now' one of my all time favourite tracks...
in fact you should really get his essential mix of last year, my lord, the best essential mix there has ever been imo
Nice tracklist.
That Sebbo track is lush but nothing beats the Von Oswald remix.
have you heard radio slave's quiet village album?
not techno, what i've heard doesn't sound very exciting to these ears.
yeah man
i really like some of it though it's obviously very different, he and (i forget the other guys name) described it as 'exotic' music.. its very loungy, and subsequently very nice in the background, but not much else. not that i know much by pink floyd but for some reason some of it remids me of them in strange way. the besty thing QV have done is their remix of kids with guns, now that is an amazing track..
they (QV) also did a recent RA podcast which was pretty meh but did have led zep in it which was a nice touch.
I like the
James Yorkston - Woozey With Cider (Quite Village Remix)
Just to say
I'm listening to this now and it's brilliant, thanks.
The Field - Live at Berghain
Uploaded this for a friend, and I know some people here will love it.
http://www.mediafire.com/?jbg2lmxjkfz
Basically a mix of his EPs and album, comes across really well.
nice cheers
:)
Can't
get this to work. Any suggestions?
It works ok for me
So I'm not sure. Its just a normal run of the mill mp3 file.
Its wicked to I haven't really fancied the field before but this has made me reavaluate.
Weird..
can't play it with anything. Does it have any of the Sound of Light on it?
I dont know very much about the field
so I'm not sure. I think it is a mix of alot of his stuff so I'm guessing it goes thru that amongst other stuff.
Maybe try downloading again and see if that works?
I've got it to work with VLC.
Sounds good.
this thread
rulez ok
damn right
;)
my mate recently signed
a record deal with some label in germany
www.myspace.com/bainystangent
he playes nights up here in scotland under the guise 'ninjatechno' and has been labelled one of scotland's finest techno artists
craigx
ooooh
jaggy jaggy jag jag, ill check him out though.. i met some relly good scottish producers in scarbrough once.. they were very cool.
thinking about scottish techno evokes strange thoughts!
In Scarborough?
is in the seaside town I was born in where nothing ever happens apart form massive ice cream and people in shorts all year round?
heh yeah
pretty much! i was at uni there, pleasant but quite boring.. i actually played with these guys a couple of times in studio 1, the crowd went wild - yeah right
hahah
brilliant man studio 1 and well pretty much every where in Scarbrough is a rubbish night out. I went to an ace gig in the train shed behind Dixsons, Hexstaic did a multimedia DJ set with projection, that was sweet.
The Uni is pretty nice though, and the ice creams the size of a humans leg.
ha yeah i remember that hexstatic gig
i dont think i was there though for some reason.. yeah the uni was cool, had some great gear. we may have rubbed shoulders unknowingly then jimi!
We may well have done
at some point out and about in scarborough. There was some good accoustic gigs around some times I haven't heard anything good happening for a while now though.
yeah a few..
my housemate did a few nice ones, he was good though.. i dont suppose ill ever go back there though. maybe it will get really cool in years to come eh!
they are converting that train shed
into an art space.... so fingers crossed for some more strange gigs there in the future.
soma from glasgow
have put out some of the best techno. my favourite is funk d'void- diabla heavenly mix.
I love Soma
that funk d'void tune is a cracker the Hacker mix floats my boat too, I use to buy loads of Soma records quite a while back, I haven't heard much of the new stuff. I'm guessing they are still making sm ace techno and minimal now to, gota love them Slam boys. They first released Daft Punk over here to I think.
aye, i need to investigate this label further
the counterplan tune in my mix is really cool, got a really funky edge to it. not hugely aware of many of their other releases mind
ah yeah thats a wicked tune
good mix dude. I love that you got Pete Tong on there heheh ;)
heh yeah i was quite pleased with that
tried to get some 'and now, we continue...' samples as well but it proved rather difficult!
hahha
that is one of my fav Tong quotes :)
The swine usulay playes music under him self while he says it mind so would be tough to stick in a mix.
indeed, that is precisely the problem!
Magda last night...
jesus...! incredible!
although everything broke down for about 10 minutes after she'd got through half a tune...
oh, and as for soma, they have a remarkably cheap round up of some of the stuff they've released (which includes some amazing Alex Smoke stuff) called Soma 200. boomkat have it for £9
http://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=22433
awesome!
ah sweet man

^
http://www.residentadvisor.net/photo-gallery.aspx?set=3961

(there only like three pictures of her though)
rubbish!
ha! yeah, i'm in pic no.32
on page 2, i'm the one in glasses holding his ear for some reason...
tom, the other worrier, is the guy at the front of the picture in the black t-shirt looking to his right.
haha! quality...
The Mole - As High As The Sky
is my latest aquisition.
Lovely, looping organic minimal that isn't really minimal at all because of the crunchy drum loops.
hxxp://globalnoises.blogspot.com/2008/05/mole-as-high-as-sky-wag038cd.html
that blog looks pretty insane
cheers. I may check that out too.
this thread deserves
a bump.
good call worriers
so i shall link to my live set of the moment, by pedro.. he played with luciano at fabric the other weekend and my lord he plsys some cool beats, i so wish i had gone!
http://special4clubers.blogspot.com/2008/04/pedro-petre-inspirescu-live-at-one-fm.html
I was there!
I <3 Petre and all the Romanians. Raresh is also an incredible DJ but I haven't had the chance to see Rhadoo yet.
Do you know if Luciano's set from that night is floating about the internet any where?
no it wont be
luciano's sets are like gold dust.. and you'll rarely, if ever, find a recording of a set from fabric online..
I HAVE A QUESTION
is minmal techno for people when they are coming down?and house/techno for when they are y'know, on it?
*minimal
no, its not specifically for anything
they are all good whatever state you're in. they are just different style contexts)
what is minimal techno then? (genuine question)
does it not kick in?
well there's not much to it,
there aren't 30 different tracks all fighting to be heard, so in effect its minimal input for maxiumum output.
well when are there 30 different tracks all righting to be heard?
not necessarily
it is just in essence, more minimal, in terms of texture and sound, have a look on www.beatport.com and go to 'genres' and you can hear what i mean..
i will do :)
It's back! :)
Resident Advisor reviewed Move D & Benjamin Brunn - Songs From The Beehive recently and it is really good. Bits of deep/minimal house and just builds and builds...
Check it http://www.myspace.com/movedbenjaminbrunn
iv heard that this is AMAZING
i will be listening to it later!
Sounds really good
Although I was massively let down by Move D's new one 'Drone'
now this sounds brilliant
I have it on the DL now and I'm gona grab the CD asap too. Really deep and beautiful, I love the way it builds for ages and ages. Good shout whacksiddy :D
well
its good, really good, but not as good as i was hoping really..
the review on RA
is glowing aint it. Not sure it will live up to that but it looks like its a beauty. I will stick it on laters.
I've found that...
after 2 or more years of listening to minimal I need a bit of a break from it, there doesn't seem to be much invention in it right now and frankly a lot of it is starting to sound derivative. It doesn't help that a lot of people use the same computer programs and stuff, the best stuff is still the stuff made on anaogue equipment.
So right now it's all about the classic Detroit Techno :-D
errr
detroit techno is like the most standard uninventive techno out there! (not that its bad or anything )
Underground Resistance ftw
classic detroit techno
and minimal are not mutually exclusive, robert hood being a case in point.
Yeah,
but there's a world of difference between Robert Hood's minimalism and Villalobos's busy percussive clatter.
I think we should start refering to them as minimal and mnml (lol).
hahah
minimal/mnml... or maybe just m or a big blank space like that.
You can't go far wrong than listening to...
Ricardo Villalobos or Ritchie Hawtin on your first minimal listen.
Martyn's fabric mix on RA is ace
for a dubstep fella he sure knows how to rock a techno set. Its deep and warm and just damn sweet. You might have heard it ages back mind its from March hehe.....
http://www.residentadvisor.net/feed-item.aspx?id=1064
2562 that techy dubstep album is just brilliant I can't stop playing it. It mixes tehno and dubstep brilliantly.
Little Detroit is a pretty cool site where you can find mixes and alsorts.
http://www.littledetroit.net/
mmmmmmminimal
I got an email from KeToLoCo today from their facebook group they are doin a party and have a mix up as well.

Its not very minimal mind apart from a coupleof tunes, and they are pretty old now. All 12" all one take, I havent had a mix for ages so it might be a bit rustie.
I'm gona finish my lunch
then go and have another crack at this beauty. Maybe shift the tracks a lil take out Buck Raas put in somthing else.
I had this on a bit earlyer
and its really good your damn right about the intricate orgnic tunes they are sounding ace.
i listen to this mix
a lot
I went to Sonar at the weekend.
It was amazing. CUBERCOOLISCHE!!!
http://www.cubercoolische.com
lol. Aside from the Cube being no where to be seen the Minus thing was pretty rad. The visuals were amazing and whenever Magda was on stage it got seriously funky. There was a great bit at the end with all six of them fiddling with laptops. Fuck knows what they were all doing (probably playing a network game of Halo tbh) but it sounded ace.
Ricardo at Fabric this weekend = Win.
yay a new version of ubercoolische
and Sonar sounds brilliant I'm well enviouse of ya. Maybe they were all on MSN to each other and feeding the message alert noises thru effects to make MSNimal Techno?
MSNimal Techno
haha, that actually made me lol.
anyone off to wild in the country next month? they have a dedicated m_nus area! score!
i want to go to fabric sooooo badly!
but im in spain. damn damn damn! i bet the loobbylobbylobos will be amazing once again too
I can't believe
I'm going to be in Manchester sitting in a student house on Saturday night :(
are any of you guys going to wild in the country btw?
just wondering like.. should be good!
haha, i just aked that ^^
but yes, i'm off. the M_nus area will be rinsed!
after björk though
oh yeah haha.
im blind. yeah i definately want to catch a bit of magda for sure. plus ame dixon and audion are certs as long as they dont clash. im really intreagued about what time everyone is going to be on...
I saw
Audion live at one of the off-Sonar events in Barca last week - good but don't go expecting minimal. He was banging out some hard stuff, the crowd were lapping it up.
well i wont, cos he isnt minimal
i've seen audion live too
good, but hardly minimal. i think we're all in agreement!
still, very good though.
indeed, i look forward to it
his essential mix this year was soooo good too!
Are Minus doing the Contakt thingy?
Or just standard DJ sets? I'm not really sure if there's much difference tbh.
I can't wait to hear a proper expansive set from Ricardo. He only played for two hours at Sonar!
give us the low-down on villalobos @ fabric
much different to sonar?
check out this if you've not heard...
http://www.myspace.com/kolomboloulou
Well
I think i've just about recovered!
He played 03.30-07.30 which is kinda early for him and meant it couldn't continue for hours until ridiculous o'clock (i.e. 11.00 am last time).
However that didn't change the fact it was the best thing ever. He started out with about 40 minutes of his own productions which I bet will turn out to be Vasco pt. 2. It was really floaty with gorgeous synths, but a definite groove, unlike Minimoonstar.
He then moved onto a couple of hours of seriously funky, sensual & sexy house. I recognised alot of the tunes from Sonar and there was a similarly Jazz orientated vibe with a lot of the tracks focused around amazing horn samples
This songs was so good he played it twice:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EvNHnEOm-c
He also played this which I beleive is supposed to be by Rhadoo:
https://freebase-records.com/shop-neu/artinfo.php?pbestnr=LAR002
My memory gets hazy some where around this point but he ended with some lovely washed out ambient tracks. All in all it was pretty much perfect.
i went to see radiohead last night
...and to my surprise they were playing some extremely good minimal before they came on- very dark and clicky. i think plastikman was involved at one point, but the rest escaped me.
but jesus it was good!
and radiohead weren't bad either ;-)
yeah
we were wondering if it was radiohead who wrote it or not, it was vert nice!
wasn't it just?!
there was one tune which was made out of crackles, white noise and bustling 808 kicks in a 'videotape'-y fashion which was just incredible! sounded very radiohead-y, i wouldn't be surprised if it was them who did that one.
the other minimal stuff was incredible, it's good to know that they're listening to it!
one of them,
colin i think used to listen to mary anne hobbs, or still does. she plays a bit of minimal.
remember loving it when super furry animals had a techno dj play before they came on at liverpool royal court, had a dance to plastikman's spastik.
Keto Loco
are doing a 6 hour set in Shoreditch on Saturday! Shame I already have plans.
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=16859174317&ref=ts
morning peeps!
the time has come to bump this thread once more...
anyone heard Ricardo Tobar's new stuff on Border Community? tis pretty good, if a little mental. but mental is good. i'd expect nothing less from Holden et al!
speaking of Holden, has anyone seen that interview with him on youtube where he's stoned off his face? it's genius.
I havent seen that
but I aint got much on so I'm off searchin hehe.
I saw a track by track blog thingy of Luciano's fabric mix CD and it sounded wicked from what I read.
i was just about to mention
luciano's fabric.
it's on the hitlist for sure!
i went to that secret party thing in leeds down by the canal side at the weekend.
rubbish.
and to think, if wild in the country was still on, i'd have been seeing the M_nus crew!
thats a bummer man
M_nus would have been brilliant.
Club minimal!
Yeah I cant wait for Luciano's Fabric. Should be good. We should all plan a trip next year and go to Sonar and then to Ibiza and live in DC10 for a week or so. Actually I will definitely do this !!!
I would be well up for that
I wana live in DC10 it looks awsome.
i'm in
yes yes yes!
KeToLoCo Rule!
Efdemin
I've just got into Efdemin, I'm guessing somewhere in this thread there might be mention of them. Its really good stuff, does anyone know how much material they've released? I need to get hold of more.
discogs are ace at finding out what people have done
http://www.discogs.com/artist/Efdemin
Ooh this is good
thanks very much. I can start mining for more 2562 as well now
no probs
its a really useful sight. prety much everything dance music related is on there hehe.
I'm not sure 2562 has been around that long under that name but he was probibly making tunes under diffrent ones before that. I have been gettin loads of his 12" recently I can't get enough of that Kamealeon tune.
I like how to-the-point it is
just gives you the hard info, handy site.
Yeah that tune is great, I listen to the Aerial album loads. I'm really into the Deepchord presents: Echospace stuff too, dubbed out minimal stuff is so great!
deepchord
is the shizz!
one of my favourite minimal albums ever in fact... genius!
Yeah its fantastic
best stuff to doze on a train/coach to ever I reckon. Incredible washed-over tidal/underwater sort of feel to it, brilliant
yeah thats a wicked album
Its been gettin some spinning that one.
2562 releases more straight up techno
under the name 'A Made Up Sound' which is really good. His earlier stuff was under the name dogdaze and its a quite different kinda breaksy sound.
yeah I saw that on Discogs
I will have to check some of it out.
Martyn I'm sure did lots of drum'n'bass and mayb even some techno as well I think
Yeah.
Martyn was hailed as the new hero of 'intelligent' d'n'b for a while. He's such a good producer that I was tempted to seek those records out, but then I remembered that I don' like d'n'b.
I haven't heard of him doing straight up techno stuf though. I downloaded his techno set at Fabric and tbh it was fairly sub standard. He's obviously an amazing dubstep DJ but with techno I didn't think he had any sense of pacing, just mixing one big tune into another.
Efdemins RA mix is good too
ill try and find a link as it has been archived now..
Cool, that'd be good to hear
Oh yeah I finally downloaded & listened to that mix you put up somewhere in this thread the other week, its ace! So thanks for that
ah thanks man, means a lot!
theres definately a link to all (or most of) the now archived RA podcasts but i cant find it.. its in a thread on RA somewhere.. ill get back to you
FYI - Luciano Fabric Mix
IMMENSE!!
it really is awesome actually
only caught one tune by
efdemin at sonar. when pantha du prince finished, he got mouthkissed by efdemin and i left. not homophobic, but wanted to catch villalobos.
oh yeah, the francois k covermount cd for dj mag is well worth it. minimal moments on there.
see fk at fabric once and was amazing, slowed rolando jaguar right down.
i was there too
he was awesome. i havent checked out that covermount, but i will do now
only just realised
after checking this thread again, but bodycode is going to be playing at corsica studios this coming friday. barring an epic disaster, i hope to be there dancing my ass off.
Extrawelt
man, just checked these guys out on beatport and it's freaking amazing!! how awesome is 'Soopertrack'?!?!?
I just found it with a quick google
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lm64l0BA5ds
and hell yes its a beast!
Pantha Du Prince
is anyone going to see him at this?
http://www.last.fm/event/658018
If the link is blocked for some reason here's the details: Thursday 31 July 2008 at T Bar, 56 Shoreditch High Street, London.
I can't wait! I still play This Bliss on a regular basis.
Yar
I'm going!
Cool!
it should be great. I've never been in T Bar before, do you know what its like for gigs?
I've only been for a drink
there so don't know the set-up - the clientele can sometimes be a bit undesirable (well it is slap bang in the middle of Shoreditch) but I imagine it's a little tamer during the week.
I'm also probably going alone so if any DiSsers don't mind me tagging along etc etc
I'm going with two others
so feel free to say hi.
Yeah when I told my flatmate where it was at his immediate reaction was, "there's always loads of ridiculously stylish people there", but like you say it goes with the territory. I have nothing against stylish people, I'm just jealous!
Aye
it's more the "We're so cool we can't possibly look like we're having a good time" air to it, if I'm seeing Panther Du Prince I'm going to dance, damnit!
I'M GOING!!
I think you have to register to win tickets here:
http://www.sanmiguel.co.uk/hiddendepths
It's a free thing curated by secretsundaze with super special guests 'n stuff.
The next few weeks are going to be hectic with minimal business:
Saturday 12th - Raresh & Rhadoo at Fabric
Sunday 13th - Tobias at Secretsundaze if i'm still awake
Saturday 19th - Cassy & Chic Minature at the Scala
Friday 25th - Claude VonStroke at Unit 7 (used to be Roll Deep's studio!)
Saturday 26th - Gaiser (M_nus) at Unit 7
What a great three weekends in a row!
Oh
thanks for the heads up, I'll be miffed if I don't get picked.
I'm tempted by that Gaiser night
You should come to the VonStroke night.
Gaiser may be good but he's not as fun as this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gg590RzMenk
Or this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmup8AofWnw
Couuuuuld
Not faimilar with VonStroke at all but looks tempting, Unit 7 is a wicked venue too.
Claude VonStroke has some AMAZING songs
Who's afraid of Detroit always gets hit for 6!
oh you gotta check out his latest release
scarlet macaw... really good! on his sister label 'mothership' really deep for him, its great
Sweet
shall check it out!
I've been to "Wrong Meeting"
there a few times, which was Andy Weatherall and Ivan Smagghe's night. People generally seemed up for dancing then. I certainly was anyway.
Mnml muxtape
I made this muxtape of some of my favourite artists and songs, many of which were recommended in this thread... Check it out if you're interested
http://vaskie.muxtape.com/
god i love anders llar
Great mux!
Yea Ilar is great, loving his Ripperton remix at the moment.
oh hell yes
its sooo nice! all his tunes and remixes are lush.. his RA pocast earlier this year was one of the best iv heard too. id love to see him live
Ripperton
Another great artist. I dont understnad how every minimal producer I come across makes such great music. Other genre's seem to have so much crap, but I seem to like everything in this thread.
minimal is a goldmine
I'm sure there is some pap but the scene seems to move pretty quick and keeps on goin.
Oh dear.
'Minimal' is one of the worst offenders for boring mechanistic pap. Just look at Dubfire of some of the recent M_nus output. Of course there's still tons of sexy tracks being made.
Not much of what's been mentioned in this thread could actually be classified as 'minimal' though, some of what's been mentioned is quite minimal, some is just plain techno, some deep house and even some plain old electronica. It's become an everything good in dance music thread, which is no bad thing as only nerds like me enjoy genre nit picking.
yeah. there is very little actual minimal in this thred.
im sure if we could rename the thread we would.
great muxtape
this thread i believe will take over dis. when i see it come up on the music forum i get a big dick.
hahhaa
its fuckin huge aint it....
I think I'm talkin about the thread
prepare to get bigger
because i just bumped this shizzle.
aww yeah.
jimi wrote some nice words about our new minimal leaning stuff on his blog. if i could access his blog at work, i'd put a link, but sadly it's been blocked... d'oh.
jimi! help!
^ this one?
http://thesonicminefeild.blogspot.com/
dont worry worrier1
http://thesonicminefeild.blogspot.com/2008/07/worriedaboutsatan.html
here you go.
wicked se of demos some deep sweeping minimal influenced stuff.
whey!
that's the chap.
;-)
hehe
:)
sweeeeeeeet
it's cool
that minimal seeps into other genres, the villalobos- shackleton thing seems to have caused much excitement. cross-pollination is good. i want to hear more of the berlin- bristol axis.
its that time again bummmmmmmmp
http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/feature/142152-the-month-in-techno
this is an interesting this onth in techno artical.
loadsa people give thier manifestos for dance music its pretty funny.
:D Brilliant article
Some great quotes.
The Pheek Manifesto made me LOL.
I don't think i've contributed as much as I possibly could
to this thread. So here is a mix of some minimal tracks i've been loving of late.

DistTheme
is the fucking money!
i should do a mix, i've just started to have a go on ableton inbetween making tunes...
plus i cannot freakin wait for luciano's fabric...
this looks like a proper nice mix
cheers for stiking it up.
For some reason I have been stickin all my moolar into dubstep for the moment.
mmmmmminimal nice
Cheers!
I'm listening to this now!
Look past the austere mixing
and there are some killers in there. The Dubfire remix of Radio Slave is ridiculous.
What time is this at?
The one at 17:00 is big!
Yep, 17mins in is it
so good
where did you get that from?
its not out till monday..
it must be the most out of date release ever, been waiting waaaaay too long for it. ill get in that mix though!
it's been on a few blogs for a while
the promo seems to have been around for a while. Danton Eeprom's remix of it is not half bad either.
ah yeah cool was just checking it wasnt a promo you procured from somwhere
all the blog ones are still low quality. anyway! some cracking tunes in the mix i will get right on it! loving super flu at the mo, his track on the traum compilation is well good too
kudos to your blog btw
very smooth
keytarsandviolins
is a wicked blog I love the look of it.
ah cheers :)
Yeah the Traum 100 comp has been in heavy rotation, really quite good, although given the sheer volume and quality of releases over the years it could have been better maybe. A brilliant label that I overlook far too often.
am
getting this now. great work. also i love this thread
This, my friend, might be one of the best things ever posted on DiS.
some mates and I
Are tryin to get some stuff off the ground. They are doin more organising than me like, but I am one of the DJs :)
So come join our facebook group we need all the peeps we can get so we can abuse venues into letting us spin some mad stuff inside um.
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=64524035110
Its gona be well ecclectic, my step bro is Pualy P and he is an awsome DJ who has been doin it for years and years. He has been known to spin at KeToLoCo and alot of diffrent places over the years. Then there is me who likes to try put pual off by going back to back with him and throwing curve balls.
We wana get some bands involved some time too. But we are in the very early stages right now.
damn you facebook links!
i can never see you at work!!
sounds good though, will add away when i get in.
that mix is really rather good too mr. leighton- top work! man, this thread rules.
i downloaded that basic channel mix cd last night- freaking amazing.
anyone going to glade today?
There's a bit of minimal. Saturday night looks good with holden and dubfire.
A lot of it will be very unminimal to say the least though.
Dubfire makes babies cry.
'emissions' and 'ribcage'
make a grown man cryyyyyyyyy
we've some new stuff on the go...
there's the full length demo of a new tune up on our myspace if peeps could have a listen... www.myspace.com/worriedaboutsatan
and we have another little teaser video too...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HR9gN4yxkA4
xx
wow man that's awesome stuff
first time iv heard you guys. ridiculously nice! i shall defo make the effort to come see you in brixton w/ maybeshewill. good work.
and fyi itch are really great, played with them last weekend.
shut you off is blindingly good
Yeah I really like your stuff
I wish I was able to attend your gig with Olafur Arnalds. The Holy Trinity Church is a beautiful venue. But I have NO money and a dissertation due in the following Monday :(
wow! nice feedback!
cheers for that guys, always nice to know we're on the right track!!
vian- come say hello if you make it to the windmill gig!
whacksiddy- that's harsh! the church gig should be incredible...!
...and how good is that
new pantha du prince album too?!
i got it after hearing about it on here, so this thread wins. again!
its awesome!
asha is a brilliant track, definately my favourite..
what a night at the t-bar next week too, pantha du prince and danton eeprom.. YES!
Do you know how to get tickets for it?
I've registered with that promotional thing further up in this thread to win tickets, but I've never won tickets for anything in my life and I don't hold out much hope of that changing for this.
I can't see tickets on any booking websites, do you know anything about it? Or is it just a case of turning up on the night?
it should be free
the t-bar nights are always free
hmmm... it seems there are now conflicting nights
according to RA - http://www.residentadvisor.net/event-detail.aspx?id=56886
according to last fm - http://www.last.fm/event/658018
have to keep an eye on this
Have you seen the comments on ths side?
teecex said: i don't get it. are they saying pantha du prince is the special guest?
Madge said: No, Pantha du Prince was supposed to play at the Baise Main night but Tbar decided to cancel it and replace it by this San Miguel sponsorised Secretsundaze event!! Money... money!!!
Sad!
If thats true its total bullshit. So its just not happening now? Aargh!
Secretesundaze always put together great nights though
so fingers crossed for tickets.
I went to their thing at the Scala on Saturday. Chic Minature were great and Cassy was totally incredible. Some really sexy house going on there, makes me want to make the trip to the Berghain even more.
I went to the Berghain!
Though we had to queue for 2 hours and whoever said they were picky about their door policy really weren't kidding, loads of people being turned away. Eventually got in at 6am, to find that Matthew Dear wasn't on till 4pm! Couldn't last that long sadly but it was fucking brilliant.
bloody hell!
Ha.
Was it your stunning good looks or your natty dress sense that got you let in?
I always thought that when people said the headliners played in the afternoon they were exagerating. Clearly not. There must of been some proper fucked people there.
They don't
seem to like gangs of girls and blokes who get rowdy in the queue (singing, generally acting drunk) - we were dressed pretty much how we usually dress and were allowed straight in. I was dead nervous though as I would have been gutted after waiting all that time. We met a lovely Brazilian guy in the queue so we hung out with him. He'd been up for 2 days. Nice.
Couldn't find any drugs alas, apparentyl they're mainly sold in a nearby car park but the drink prices were reasonable so it didn't matter.
I loved Berlin. I want to go back already.
yeah iv been told that berlin is lovely, and beautiful
irrespective of the nightlife. i really would like to go.
ah cool
the first i heard of chic minature was the latest release on crosstown rbels (escandala) which is so nice, big fan of it!

is a really good mix by him too..
Is anyone going to see 2562?
This Sunday at Plastic People
http://www.ilovefwd.com/index.html
i've been talking to this guy on myspazzle
www.myspace.com/vorr
check out 'outlaws'
-full of lovely holden-esque bleeps and squeals.
amazing stuff!!
I just made a mix
Ricardo Villalobos - Minimoonstar (Shackleton Remix)
Muslimgauze - Sikh Out
Shackleton - Next to Nothing (Guillaume & the Coutu Dumonts Remix)
Oleg Poliakov - Midnight Vultures
Yann Solo - Boderline
Mara Trax - The Rhythm
Heartthrob - Signs
Stimming - Kleine Nachtmusik
Ane Brun - Headphone Silence (Henrik Schwarz Remix - Dixon Edit)
Dinky - DA 20 S
Sensitiva - Mimosa
Sizzla - Give me a Try
http://rapidshare.com/files/131717578/22.07.08.mp3.html
I have been
playing alot of:
Shackleton & Muslimgauze
I got turned on to him on another thread the other day he is wicked.
I have 3 skull disco 12" now and I cant get enough of them, I think they are only releasing one more and then stopping it :(
It will have some Shackleton tunes on it I think, oh and another Sound Boy compilation will come out.
Appleblim is doing his label Apple Pips and Shackelton has moved to Berlin.
Mix looks wicked I will get on the DL :)
I <3 Muslimgauze
He's basically Shackleton but like 20 years ahead of his time and tons weirder.
SKULL10 should be wicked, i think its four Shack tunes. One of which, 'The Rope Tightens' he played at Sonar I think. You can get his set here:
http://core.thomaslaupstad.com/mary-anne-hobbs-experimental-2008-06-25-sonar-festival-2008-special/
It really is something else. His laptop show is totally in another galaxy to everyone else.
Shackleton Live
in Nottingham on 2 August at Stealth. I am definately going. Anyone else?
http://www.myspace.com/stealthnottingham
Sweet
Just as I was listening to Jennifer Cardini's Feeling Strange mix, this ol' thread pops up again! I will give your mix a listen, I haven't heard the Shackleton remix yet, and am intrigued immensely by it!
BTW
this was recorded live in Traktor, no overdubs and the mixing is slightly dodgy in places.
Also I don't think the Sizzla thing really works. I just mixed it in because its like my favourite ever dancehall track and his vocals sound so nice pitched down.
I'm really liking this mix
got it on at the moment
Shackleton - Next to Nothing (Guillaume & the Coutu Dumonts Remix)
wow that is one awsome remix when you drop it the bass is huge.
Enjoyin this lots dude nice work, the mid section has some wicked bumpin moments. I nearly started Jackin'
Thanks!
I'm glad you like it.
He wasn't minimal in the slightest but I saw Claude Von Stroke on friday and he was great. Really amazing house tunes with a hip-hop edge. Also the venue in Cable Street Studios was incredible.
lovin this mix
off to ibiza for the space closing party end of sep and this has got me right in the mood :-)
I've never been to Ibiza for clubbing.
I'm tempted by Cocoon at Amnesia and I'd love to go to DC10 if it wasn't closed :-(
not minimal
but heard a tune in fabric the other day. i remembered some of the words and just found it. it's proxy - dancing in the dark
very good http://youtube.com/watch?v=DNF7773KcGM
not minimal either...
but i thought it was worth a mention...
http://www.drownedinsound.com/articles/3709097
!!
2 x 12"
KONTEXT, Plumes / Blinkende Stjerne, 12"

KONTEXT, Falling to Weightlessness, 12"
http://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=116612
just wow...
one is a super minimal infused dubstep 12" and the other is pure minimal and deep as hell. I saw them in todays boomkat news letter and bagged them both right away.
we've another new tune up...
it's called 'evil dogs' and it's up on our myspace at www.myspace.com/worriedaboutsatan
it also features tom morris of leeds band her name is calla (so jimi, it's different to the version i sent you!)
have a listen!
x
aww brilliant man
I will check that out, that tune is wicked can;t wat to hear what you have done with it :)
ahhh
we've not done that much- we've tweaked some of the percussion, added the vocals and put a sweet as fuck harmony vocal floating in the background. LUSH!
ahhh

woops
stop pressing submit gavin!
yeah dude
its well nice I like those subtle touches with the vocal harmony :)
Panther Du Prince London update!!
Looks like it's been moved to August 28th:
http://www.last.fm/event/658018
It turns out that Theo Parish
is playing the T Bar tonight. What a result! He's like a million times better than Pantha Du Prince.
argh, gutted i missed theo parrish
at sonar, can't remember what was on instead.
the carl craig remix of theo parrish's 'falling up' is out of this world...
http://youtube.com/watch?v=AG-h27tajtg
hey!
which one of you turned up to the church gig with óli arnalds on wednesday then?!
^
Theo Parrish - Live @ RBMA label Showcase (Sonar Festival) 21.06.2008
rapidshare.com/files/128192762/Theo_20Parrish_20__20RBMA_20Showcase_20Sonar_20Festival_202008.mp3
not that im rubbing it in but did you see this?
actually that link might not work
lots of sonar sets on this page though
http://www.residentadvisor.net/forum-read.aspx?id=45215
so....
who was at the óli arnalds gig in leeds on wednesday?! someone from DiS showed up but i was in such a rush i couldn't speak to them!
arse
I knew there was another gig I had to try get to. I have been to 3 this week and my bank ballance is fooked :(
How have I missed this thread before?
hehe
dunno its freakin huge!!!!!!
welcome brother!
now bask in the eternal glory that is the minimal techno thread on DiS!!!
Can
anyone recommend some good online electronic resources for reviews and general writing?
well the obvious is
www.residentadvisor.net
I used to use that
but the reviews are so badly written and they give everything 4/5.
apart from any villalobos production
some nice mixes in here
http://www.spotlight-forums.com/forumdisplay.php?s=258b526e0de8164292535164191ab1e9&f=36
so who's excited about Richie on Saturday?
mememememememememe
I am excited.
But i'm setting myself up for bitter dissapointment. His RA Podcast was pretty pants tbh.
Is he somewhere other than Field Day?
No.
Are you going Johnny? Literally everyone in the world is...
He's doing that Contakt Guardians of the Cube nonsense here in October with the rest of the Minus crew though.
I can't be arsed
after last year and can't really afford it anyway. Boo hiss.
keytars and violins
is now my favourite website in the world.
'drone' by move d is amaaaaaazing. i've had it on back to back about 5 times now.
incredible piece of work!
ahh hes put up the villalobos los updates remix too
i like that a lot. im going to listen to drone now..
thats a mad tune
4 Wheel Drive, I think Vilalobos went insane for some of those Fabric tracks heheh.
Move D is a badman producer.
Has anyone heard his album with Benjamin Brunn? Its superlative.
In other news this is totes the tune of the summer:
http://blip.tv/file/1145695/
When the second horn line drops and the kick drum comes back in its sublime. This SiS chap is making some proper good tracks, check this one:
http://rapidshare.com/files/134727931/sis__burak__-_standing.mp3
Move D & Benjamin Brunn - Beehive
is a really good album.
My minimal adventures
have been a little sparse of late, but I have found some crossover beauties with the dubstep lot.
Made Up Sound AKA 2562 has brought out a few more tunes recently and they are massive. They are at about 130 bpm as well so well easily enough get into techno/minimal sets aswell as dubstep. Really bassey and huge sounding broken techno. ava listen...

Lutzenkirchen - Pandora Electronics
Any of you peeps have any opinions on this artist, probibly not the album, as thats not out yet...
I quite like quite a bit of what I have heard, he does a kind of minimal/techno/electro crossover thing with some proper bumping beats.
Seriously everyone watch that video
I posted of Luciano playing Trompeta.
SUCH. A. FUN. SONG.
holden was amazing at field day
anyone got that double cd mix he did a couple of years ago?
balance? yeah, it's good. Save the odd bad vocal line
The sound was a bit muddy at field day, loosing a lot of the subtleties that I'm sure were happening.
Still the Holden/Hawtin double bill was lots of fun.
I got published today
http://www.3barfire.com/index.php/Album-Reviews/Lutzenkirchen-Pandora-Electronica.html
I got asked to write a review and thats what happened, up there in the link...
good work jimmi!
ill have to check that out!
nice one fella :)
You is LEGENDE Jimi. Nice one - reading it now
whilst eating my aubergine and salami baguette at lunch...
heheh
thanx Kitten :)
I'm hungry now as well.... mmmmm toast.
Octogen
AKA Marco Bernardi who made an ace album the other year called 2five0nine has a new one a comin on Soma...
Deep deep detriot future tek funk all the way its pretty nice.
The bank holiday weekend is stupid good for music:
Saturday - Luciano & Sascha Dive @ Fabric, Magda & Seth Troxler @ T-Bar
Sunday - Carl Craig @ secretsundaze, Raresh, Appleblim, Cassy, I-F & Maurice Fulton @ eastern electrics.
I should just try and stay awake for 32 hours.
that looks insane
I wish I could afford to be in a big city some times heheh
I love Appleblim at the moment his RA podcast is sublime, and he dropps a load of minimal dubby techno at the end of the set too.
luciano all the way that weekend!
though id love to see raresh too.
Last time Luciano played fabric
he came on at 5.00am. So my plan is to check out Magda and Seth till like 3.00 then pop over to Fabric.
yeah i had to wait till 5 for radioslave at the weekend to. not helpful.
good idea though would like to see and preferably touch the wonderful magda
can anybody link me
to a Raresh mix please? I may be heading to Eastern Electrics and have only seen brief youtube snippets of his mixes.
yeah iv got one, ill try and find the link..
>
http://no-rockstars.blogspot.com/2008/06/pedro-rhadoo-raresh-live-circoloco-dc10.html
thats a good un
hero!
thankyou so much, if the youtube clips are anything to go by this may take up most of my afternoon..
here is another one, on his own..
http://www.nights.ro/radio/nights_at_one_fm_-_ed043-2008-08-07-part2.mp3
Raresh really is an excellent DJ
perhaps not as good as Petre/Pedro but the whole arpiar crew are all so good its reall splitting hairs. I've never actually seen him DJ on his own though, it either been b2b with Ricardo V or with Rhadoo.
If you're going to eastern electrics you really have to see Cassy, she's a superlatively good DJ.
DJ Sneak vs Ricardo Villalobos
Going at it back2back it sounds wicked in this vid and pretty unexpected...
http://www.beatfactor.ro/video/4642/
I saw this on Resident Advisor
looked funny. DJ Sneak is fat!
I love Sneak
he plays some jackin bumpin stuff proper old skool.
Ricardo's first tune is fantastic
I love how distinct his sound is. If someone played me that track and asked me to guess who was playing it i'd easily have said him.
yeah
you can tell him a mile off can't ya the dude has his own style for sure.
everyone keep an ear out for the carphone warehouse ad with minilogue's 'animals' as the tune
weird.
I noticed it was something I recognised
but couldn't quite out what song it was. Is it this one?
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=u46eaeAfeqw
Great video too!
oh yeah course
its not animals is it. such a good vid!
yes
I thought I caught some of that the other night, I was like wait a second thats Minilogue!
then I thought I was heraing things hehe
yeah same!
the music works well with it though i must say
Yeah it works nice
i would say sub par techno
Great thread
: )
it's monday morning and i'm back at work
so it's time this thread got bumped again.
K&V has some well nice stuff up atm. that superflu track is ace!
we start making an album this week too. exciting!
that is exciting
good luck with it and have a good laugh too.
I shall pop over to the KV see what they got.
I have been rinsin that Octogen album on Soma its more Detriot techno than minimal though. I mentioned it up there^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Oh and the track Plumes by Kontext is so damn beautiful its kinda slow though at about 90 bpm but if ya fancy mixin with it wack it up a bit, I stick it in dubstep and minimal mixes at the moment.
superflu
:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
I love this this tune it brilliant.
ah yes octogen
i've heard a bit about this, i shall check it out!
we'll keep you informed of new tunes as we do em! so expect some more CDRs to come through yr letterbox jimi!
that would be wicked dude :)
I have the new Octogen album its called Gindofask and its out early next month, I'm reviewing it for that site I did the other one for. Its a bit tastey.
oh man an album! aweome
i look forward to it! keep the updates regular!
or perhaps awesome
Has anyone heard the recent Watergate 01 mixed by Onur Ozer?
I was impressed by a track on Colette and it looks like it could be a pretty good mix.
Trying to to decide whether to purchase or not.....
i havent.. i haven't really taken the time to investigate onur properly yet either
It's a very 'now' mix
by which i mean its of the ubercoolishce sunglasses wearing random ethnic sample school of techno. Which can be a good or bad thing depending on your disposition.
That said I think it's pretty good. Ozer's transitions are incredibly tight and the mix has a nice sense of pacing and development. There's some great moments too; his use of Patrice B's 'Roar' particularly.
right i might as well..
please have a listen to my latest mix!
it was a vert spontaneous one but been meaning to do another for a while. bit of a dodgy spin back in the middle but fuck it its prety cool otherwise. some great tracks too! (of course)
http://www.sendspace.com/file/egzjio
Vian - Hour Two (just short of an hour that is!)
Matthias Tanzmann – Hotel Sapporo (Pedro remix) // Moon Harbour
Boris Werner – Starvin Marvin is Cruisin // cadenza
Loco Dice – Orchidee // Minus
Radioslaxe – Eyes Wide Open // R&S
Chic Minature – KImano // crosstown rebels
Patrice Baumel – Roar // get physical
Argy – 1985 (Sydenham remix) // poker flat
Minilogue – Carnival // traum
Thomas Schumacher – Pink Boots (khord remix) // spiel-zeug schallplatten
let me know of your thoughts!
dodgy spin bakcs FTW!
I have been listening to dubstep DJs I dont think a dodgey spin back will bother me heheheh
gettin it on DL!!!!!
mmmmmmmminilogue :)
hehe
i love you jimi
right back at ya dude
;)
get a room guys ; )
I'll check it out after BSG, looks good
lol
i turn my head for 5 minutes
and completely miss all this! haha
is this the first minimal techno thread romance blossoming?! ;-)
i did a remix of a Maybeshewill tune last night... it's pretty tasty. i'll put it up online somewhere once it's properly mixed and that!
are you flirting with me?
I like a bit of Maybeshewill I look forward to hearin your mix dude!
:)
I just did a minimal mix I say minimal some of it was a bit techno but hell who cares. But then I made it extra super minimal by only managing to record 2 seconds of the set before my computer crshed :-S
So I'm now in a mood and jst gona listen ti Vain's mix instead hehe
i am certainly flirting with you
record your mix again jimi! go oooooon!
worriers i look forward to that remix too..
been listening to lusine - serial hodgepodge today - great album! definately one you need to hear if you havent already
I aint heard that one dude
I will go and have a dig around for it.
I will record my mix again for ya tomorow I was pleased with it too.
Starts with a villalobos classic what you say is more than i can say and finished with a abe duque acid mix of kraftwerk and went thru some old hawtin and new plumes and kontext, oh and not to forget a little bit of sexy Loco Dice...
niiiice bring it on!
might get on the case soon ish
after a clean up of my computer so it doesnt crash again hehe
plus I'm not feelin to hot today and I'm in a mood so the mix might go into hardcore stylings hehe
hold ya horses for this beats laters
I'M HITTIN' THE ONES AND TWOS!
Top mix Vian!
You had the privilege of being the first sound to emit from my new speakers at work. Although met with derision and calls of "What's that noise?!" from lesser co-workers, I myself thoroughly enjoyed it. Great mixing.
Caught Villalobos in Belgium on the weekend - at least 100% good. Also, London kids, you may be aware there's a Border Community night on Saturday at The End with James Holden, Ricardo Tobar (live), Legowelt, Avus. mmm
Just about to blog a couple of recent joys. Johannes Heil & Extrawelt, Florian Meindl.
Also, X-102 - Rediscovers The Rings Of Saturn is stupidly good. 1992 experimental techno FTW!
thanks man! ^
hey is anyone going to either the T-bar or fabric tomorrow night?? Magda and Troxler followed by Sascha Dive and LUCIANO!! god yes!!
I want to go to Fabric
but I have to be on a bus to Manchester at 1pm on Sunday - it's not a good idea is it?
hehe
depends how mashed you were to get at fabric i guess! luciano is blatelntly not going to be on till like 5 too.
Also Johnny.
It'll be worth it. Luciano is a superlative DJ - just don't go to bed!
If not come to see Magda earlier on - it's free.
I'm going to be at
Shoredtich Church seeing Hidden Cameras so this is a massive possibility. I'll text you.
I'M GOING!!
So excited! I haven't had some 4x4 dance action for like a month. Been on the bassline & disco tip this past few weeks.
I BET i'll miss Sascha Dive though. They'll have him playing first then four hours of the interminable Craig Richards. Does anyone even like that guy? He's like the nerdy kid who always insisted on DJing at his own party even though there are vastly superior DJs there.
hahah
I agree about Craig Richards, I think he had his time way back in the tribal days but now he seems to be out of his depth a little.
haha he's ok man, pretty consistent
itll be him then dive around 2.30/3 ish then luciano at half four or five i reckon. see you there!!!
You'd be consistent if you'd been able to practise
on one of the worlds best soundsystems every week for 8 years.
I mean the guy must get sent a million records every month yet he just plays workmanlike filler mixed in away that affords little excitement or energy to his sets.
So my weekend was a slight fail.
I didn't get into see Magda I was judged to be not cool enough. Then I somehow lost my bank & oyster card which put me in a bad mood that even Luciano's stellar set couldn't lift.
Oh god
It's that sort of attitude that I've heard about that has stopped me from going to T Bar in the past.
It was so annoying.
We got there at 10.00 and there was one line for guest list and one for normal people and when we got to the front the guy was like guest list only, so I asked why if it was guest list only was there a queue for people not on the guest list and he just blanked us and told the bouncer to move us out the queue.
Then the people behind us who were no better dressed and frankly looked liked idiots who had no idea who Magda was got let right in. Infuriating!
yeah thats what i thought would happen at the t-bar
we went straight to fabric and heard an hour of TERRIBLE mixing from sascha dive, followed by pretty avergae tunes up until luciano who was UNBELIEVBLE, the best set i think iv ever seen. god he was good. stayed till 9.15 and he was still going! absolutley immense.
oh my god yes
I only saw the first half of Luciano due to friends getting tired at 7 (fair enough I guess) but he was incredible. I dearly hope the set was recorded so I can hear the second half. Any memories of what he played?
He played SiS - Standing
twice! Plus Johnny D - Orbitalife, Alex Picone - Floppy, M83 - In Church...
After that my memory gets hazy. My friend said he played Basic Channel after I left though.
yeah the m83 mix over break new soil was phenomenal!
oh man alive! he also played Afefe Iku - Mirror Dance (the one with the xylaphone, and two tracks at just after nine which iv heard perdro play which were soo good! and also one other mental track that im trying to find that is the best track iv ever heard i swear.
i think he may also have played a track off the latest superflu release (rattleschneck)
best set ever. lets hoope it goes up on the fabric website!
Milton Jackson - Ghosts In My Machine
Was played in the first half too.
Was just planning on Luciano
But Magda as a warm up instead of Craig Richards would be much better.
I also have a ticket for secret sundaze the next day. Oh dear. oh dear
mix mix mix mix mix yeah?
http://www.mediafire.com/?gl6w4zzxpau
Jimitheexploder and the minimal mix sorta

Panther Du Prince on Thursday isn't happening at all. SIGH.
gutted for ya :(

pantha du prince

yeah i dunno man
still, danton is playing and he is the man, he will be heavy!
Cancelled again?
Aaargh. I was really looking forward to this. Is this gig ever going to happen? It'd be nice to know why it keeps on getting bumped
Wow
Kaito - Hundred Million Light Years on Kompakt is immense. Its a few years old, but I only heard him on Kompakt Total 6 recently.
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=AfvcjCn4vb4
a few things...
we've a new tune up for starters- it's the actual version of 'arrivals', only available as a demo up until now... this one sounds a lot, shall we say, bigger! :) jimi, an mp3 is coming your way. same too to leighton or anyone else who wants it on here...
also, i did a bit of boomkat shopping and picked up Miwon's 'Pale Glitter' (£1.25), a moderately good electro pop album which trundles along nicely until halfway through, when the title track comes in and it's 8 minutes of pure hypnotic minimal bliss! haha. awesome.
a link might be helpful...
www.myspace.com/worriedaboutsatan
lemme know what y'all think about 'arrivals'!
anyone?
ANYONE?!!!!!!!!!
sorry for the delay - I'm never one to give quick reactions
very good - ethereal, out of time - I'm looking forward to your album
I've been listening to your stuff on and off all day
speaking of hypnotic...
...is the miwon what's inspired you to make the new arrivals so beautifully hypnotic? i keep listening to it on repeat and getting lost inside it. great work!!
hehe
they are coincidences, but they are eerily similar :)
oo nice
mp3 wooop!
Arivals is a very nice tune indeed.
another review by me

Perfect iPod listening, partially inspired by the excellent TRAX magazine and a list of Beatport Top 10's.
Also Gav, the finished 'Arrivals' track is so so nice. I'm a sucker for texture.
whey!
thanks for that, will check out your mix vvv soon!
if you want an mp3 sending of the new arrivals for k&v, lemme know!
x

I use Mixmeister Fusion on the Mac, neat little tool.
aaah. never heard of it.
excellent work though.
this looks cool leighton
I shall get it on the DL right away :)
Arrivals is a really nice tune aint it.
nice one leighton
i love your last mix... especially when the bass on distheme kicks in at 12.40 and the distortion between 45.50 and 46.30
how long does it take to make a mix?
Y'all should get this
it's ace.
http://tinyurl.com/6kwach
Alex Under can do no wrong in my book.
not strictly minimal
but is there any love for Ada on here? Blondie is a fucking classic.
did Ada have an album out a while ago?
the name rings a bell I think I was going to grab it but never got round t it.
Blondie
came out in 2004 on Areal, I think. Followed by two remix EPs (Blondix 1 and Blondix 2), which were great too. If you see any of her stuff cheap, grab it.
Or just download it for free!
nice one
I will keep an eye out for it
cheers
;)
im not too up on ada i must say
apart from the ada remix of vertigo vs cha (booka shade) which is a bit of a classic
Worriedaboutsatan - Arrivals

LUCIANO
ROBERT MUTHERFUCKING HOOD
BABY FORD
MARTIN BUTTRICH
SHINEDOE
PATRICE SCOTT
KEITH WORTHY
!!!!
It's too much.
THAT IS TO MUCH!
ROBERT MUTHERFUCKING HOOD
:D
oof
Noice, noice noice
Unrelated, but anyone got a tracklisting for Michael Mayer's incredible Peel Session?
alright mate
easy now, there was only a few posts, no need to get sarky!
shed...
the new shed record (shedding the past) is outstanding. you have to listen to it
Golly
when is that?
anyone
go to the krucht&flucht clubnight in leeds?
just wondered how good it was 'cause it's moving to the ruby lounge in manchester soon.
and they've got stephan bodzin down on the 28th nov apparently.
ah yeah, we know k&f pretty well
nice people.
their night is really rather good, it's very recommended.
thanks!

try this link
http://www.sendspace.com/file/rsx5nw
it seems to have updated with a new link without telling me.
delightful
downloading as we speak.
thanks a lot!
Anyone
heard the Ame Fabric album? Bought it yesterday and it's fuggin' awesome. Starts of pretty deep (which I guess you'd expect from Ame), but towards the end its just a total heads down fist pumping technofest. Wikkkid.
yes! i love it!
its starts of really nice very deep as you say, and carrys on brilliantly all the way! i love the minilogue remix especially. great mix..
I have read some really good reviews
I think I will have to go and grab it
Kenny Larkin - 'Vibin' from the LP 'Keys, Strings And Tambourines' (Planet E)
I heard this last night on Marry Anne Hobbs and it blew my mind!
has anyone heard the Vasco EP pt. 2 yet?
Phonica has it for sale:
http://www.phonicarecords.co.uk/detail.aspx?ID=31696
I can not find it anywhere on the internet to try before I buy though.. may just have to take the plunge...
its not nearly as good as part one
in my opinion.. its floating around somewhere though ill have a look..
hmm i cant find it, i definately found it recently cos i heard it..
its good but minimoonstar is soooo good that it just doesnt beat that.. not so intricate either as far as i can remember
cocoon @ mint club, leeds
this saturday.
anyone going?
looks like an ace line-up!
Vian - Hour Three! (the best yet :))
afternoon all.. here is my latest and most favourite mix so far, and one i hope to push to all and try and get some more shows with i hope.. i feel im really starting to define my output - luciano last month was inspirational and this shows it..
starts off with a really housey organic almost latino vibe.. then gets a bit more beefy at the end. some truly great tunes in it including one of the tunes of the summer by SIS (im sure some of you will know it!)
anyway please let me know what you think and if any of you know any promoters in london or ppl that you think might like to hear it do let me know!
here is the tracklist (which is also embedded)
as usual i used two cdj's and one vinyl deck (i like to use at least one vinyl!)
Marco Ressman – Sao Paulo Lights (Anthony Collins Remix) // Upon You Records
Pier Bucci – Hey Consuelo (Samim Remix) // Stealth Records
Pele – Viva Belize // Connaisseur Records
La Pena - A1 // White Label
Sis – Marcha Oscura // Cecille
Johnny D – Soleil // Safari Electronique
Sis – Standing // (unreleased)
Stimming – Una Pena //Dynamic
Gel Abril – Spells of Yoruba // Be As One
Dave Aju – Crazy Place (Luciano Remix) // Circus Company
link - http://www.sendspace.com/file/v2z2qu
sorry for the extended blurb btw! hope you like it!
Great tracklist
it has alot of my favourite tracks at the moment on it, Una Pena especially. Stimming is really come out with some great tracks this year.
The SiS track is actually called Nesrib and just got released on Cecille Records. It's so so rad
While we're talking about SiS I presume if you haven't been living under a cave the whole summer you'll have heard 'Trompeta'. I've been loosing my shit over this track since Ricardo dropped it at Sonar. Sure its very simple stuff, but it totally devastates the dancefloor. Check it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BY-D2eIJfUA
I'll give it till November before I'm sick of it.
yeah man i picked up last monday at phonica
got a devastating review on RA though. ridiculous.
yeah i realised yesterday that it was called nesrib, weird cos i thought that e.p. had totally different tracks on it. anyway definately the track of the summer for me (nesrib that is)
stimming has such great skills dont he. i love his production.
up for my mix - itll make your day go quicker!
sorry i feel terrible for bumping so blatently.
also, did anyone go to matter at the weekend??
i went to
meandyou at melodies in manchester on friday, which was a bit weird and then got shut down by the police at 2am... which was a bit crap.
then cocoon at mint on saturday, which again, was a bit odd... ciaran in the back room was incredible though. annie errez was really good too. reboot even dropped some kind of minimal remix of 'sealion' by feist too! awesome.
ah man brutal, was it a raid?
they had one at pacha this weekend too. totally unnannounced (as a raid usually is!)
i bet reboot was good. would love to check him out sometime soon
nah
the promoter put the night on in melodies, which is a pretty weird venue- it's basically like an old man's pub/ bar! it looked ace though. the sound system was really good too.
but, as these places have limited licences, they only had a licence to serve alcohol until 2am, not 4am which was the scheduled ending! cue the fuzz!
Was the Feist remix this one:
https://freebase-records.com/shop-neu/artinfo.php?pbestnr=RAL5007&banner=off
per chance? It's from the same camp as the CAE + NIN, Floette + Clarinette and St Etienne bootlegs.
was it phil kieran at cocoon?
what type of music does he do now?
used to do looped techno that went down a treat at bugged out. the bomb was a good 'un.
this is a bugged out lineup from 2002: slam, adam beyer, layo and bushwacka, plump dj's, phil kieran, silicone soul. that was when the lineups had started going downhill, too.
ah no
it was a mate of ours called ciaran who was DJing in the back room for Krucht & Flucht...!
really love
Nick Sole’s Minimal Summer, been one of my most played tracks for a while. I just found this download for his new single ‘Earth’. Well worth checking out I think:
http://del.interoute.com/?id=e3179fc5-39c1-4a91-afac-45cf47bc0a67&delivery=download
Everyone should listen to this
Francois K mix. Sublime doesn't even come close to how this sounds:
http://blog.soulclap.us/2008/09/16/mixtape-time-18/
I'm in the mood for this
cheers :)
I can't emphasise enough how wonderful this set is.
I only recognise two tracks (Fizheur & the WAX1001 thing) but the quality and depth is outstanding throughout
Pedro Cali
From the same label as Nick Sole, new EP coming out, found a download of one of the tracks, absolutely brilliant!
http://del.interoute.com/?id=8a0ec5e1-c0f1-4923-87da-e58d3b012f22&delivery=download
Here are some tracks I've been enjoying recently
When the thread popped up again today it reminded me.
Warning: they may not be brand new. I'm not cool enough to be on the cutting edge.
'Octagonal' and in particular 'Father' by Luciano are both incredible. Very lush in places.
Marek Hemmann has loads of good stuff. Check out 'Lowdown' and his 'Masala' remix.
Other good remixes include Dubfire's version of 'Jamaica' which is very banging and Roland M. Dill's take on 'Space' by Minilogue has an awesome breakdown.
Also, it's more tech house but if you haven't heard 'white elephant' by H.O.S.H is has the most beautiful synth line half way through that you will ever hear. ever
yeah the luciano tracks are top tunes
most things he does are though!
the dubfire minilogue remix is a beast! yet still keeps the originals vibe really well i think. have you checked out minilogues latest release - snake charmer? really good. electornic artists of the year for me i think..
No not yet
I saw a good writeup on RA I think so will add that to my list of records to splash out on when pay day comes. 6 days to go!
exellent news!
anyone off to
the m_nus night at the warehouse project next friday in manchester?
i am!
what about
what about this louche thing in leeds on friday, is that likely to be any good?
PS seems this thread won't load for me on new DiS
let's av it!!
i just wanted to relight the minimal techno thread fire
Threads of this length are normally deformed beyond recognition too
This really is thread among threads.
Anyone gonna have a stab at their Top 10+ minimal tracks, sets of the year?
I know (tries to think of a conversation starter)
what are everyone's christmas and new years clubbing plans if any? is anyone going to see the man Hawtin and Loco Dice at the End on the 27th?? if so ill see you there! cant wait for that
I feel very 'meh' about Hawtin, M_nus & minimal in general at the moment.
I am however going to Resident Advisor's christmas party which will be a whole bag of fun. Shackleton, DJ Koze, DOP, Move D, Appleblim & Modeselektor.
this doesn't seem
to have had many listens, but is great, especially soon the mole's mmd mix...
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=75425052
I'm new to this minimal techno lark, BUT...
I've been listening to 'Agoria at the Controls', a 2CD jobby, at only £5 and have been enjoying immensely. At least I THINK it is minimal techno...
http://www.amazon.co.uk/At-Controls-Mixed-DJ-Agoria/dp/B000VH383I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1230136236&sr=1-1
james holdens at the controls is ace too...
even has some malcolm middleton on disc 2
watcha, here is my latest mix if anyone is interested, i think y'all should like it
it's kind of a one off as i wanted to put in a few favourites that i wouldnt otherwise really play.. its generally a much deeper, more relaxed vibe and has some really nice melodic lines in it at points.. give it a go!
Vian: Hour 4
Minilogue – We All // Cocoon
Loco Dice – Black Truffles in the Snow // Desolat
Pikaya – Jedi // Cadenza
Martin Beume, Pawas – House Kaoss // Squonk
Jin Choi – The Black and White // Archipel
Stimming – Una Pena (Argy remix) // Dynamic
Lawrence – Compulsion // Dial
DJ Sodeyama – Now is the Time (Vocal Mix) // Archipel
Sasha Funke – Ey // Platipus
Pantha Du Prnce – Saturn Strobe // Dial
http://www.sendspace.com/file/uif8u5

Diynamic has been one of my favourite labels of late, really good vibe about it.
So what's everyone favourite 'minimal' mix?
Mine is currently Wighnomy Brothers - Metawuffmischfelge

fyi everyone should listen to it just to check out 'unknown - lemany'which is in fact a remix of nina simone by reboot.. it's really great...
download it here.. nearly an hour..
http://www.sendspace.com/file/pmk51r

http://open.spotify.com/user/ronslunchbox/playlist/5FZGrttrZBOmNppdoGYe3T
come on - get involved
i have put about 20 tracks on there but need more!!
Omar S - Detroit Fabric 45
is something else its a little bit minimal a little bit detroit a little bit house a little bit techno all at once maybe the best fabric mix since Ricardo Villalobos, maybe...
I did a mix tonight...
its not really minimal though apart from the odd track sounding pretty techno and stripped back. I might up load it for ya if you like

ahhh well I will do a acctual good one some time soon and make sure it works for people to DL.
jesus, it's been a while since i've been here...
wow, totally forgot about this uber-thread!
some recent discoveries...
Surgeon's RA Podcast, which is just a gig he recorded, which i was also at! it's frickin amazing though.
British Murder Boys- it's Regis and Surgeon. sounds incredible.
Robert Hood's Fabric- Immense. to the max.
Ben Klock's 'One'- oh sweet jesus.
Substance/Vanquier- amazing, and playing Leeds soon! wicked remixes by BMB, Surgeon and Sleeparchive too!!
Andy Stott's 'Unknown Exception'- some quality dub techno and early acid stuff.
Meanwhile Recordings- amazing, dubby atmospheres from Murmur, (their RA podcast is a MUST!), etc.- plus we're playing with them in April!
Slowhouse- saw them DJ on friday night... ace fun!
oh, and has anyone heard the new fabric from Omar S yet?!
Omar S - Detroit Fabric 45
is THE SHIT!
I've had it on promo for soem weeks, I think it's out now though...
In-fact I wrote this about:
http://thesonicminefeild.blogspot.com/2009/03/fabric-45-omar-s-detroit.html
its reall raw and back to the roots of detroit techno / house without managing to sound like a big cliche and everything.
I need to grab Ben Klock's album his mix on Marry Anne Hobbs was brilliant.
the surgon and martyn remix's of Shed that came out last week are wicked as well. Martyn even does it at a techno pace.
sheet!
i heard that shed remix of substance, and that is just amazing! will check that out.
finally got that 2562 album as well- sweet as!
omar s has been added to the list!!
if you get chance to see 2562 live
he is so damn good really amazing punchy swung techno sounds that just kill it on a huge sound system
These are good
Bruno Pronsato - Why can't we be like us
Ben Klock - One
Pier Bucci - Famila
Dominik Eulberg - Heimische Gefilde
Superlongevity - va-superlongevity 4 [perlon 56]
Also check out "Fetch my Blades" by Adam Proll, it's a great track.
http://audiofamilies.ifrance.com/ quite often have good downloads and podcasts as well.
DJ Koze's
Kozetastic Resident Advisor Pocast is up to d/l now. It starts with Mount Kimbie's William! It's very excellent!

Gui Boratto - No Turning Back
Butch - Mushroom Man

RICARDO!!
In six days time. So excited.
Now this is obvs a generic dance music thread rather than just mnml nonsense we should all express our love for Seth Troxler. Such an amazing DJ. Don't believe me? Want to hear more? Check this baby:
http://feeds.feedburner.com/%7Er/TheBunkerPodcast/%7E5/407648963/20080924-SethTroxler.mp3
how was he thought dreams?
pretty techy i heard.. i would have liked to have gone but just couldnt face it this time around. i see it was rammed again an all.
going to see mr troxler easter weekend? thats one of my options...
is anyone going to see Move D this weekend?
http://www.residentadvisor.net/event-detail.aspx?id=87259
Still not sure if I can make it but I'd love to go
it's litreally
round the corner from my flat but i can't go! so annoyed.
yeah I can't make it either now
Dead frustrating! Would love to have gone. Ah well
the spotify playlist for this thread is getting seriously good now
keep adding!!
http://open.spotify.com/user/ronslunchbox/playlist/5FZGrttrZBOmNppdoGYe3T
freakin love it by the way
you are my new hero.
Great playlist.
Just added a pretty cool Daniel Dreier tune, hope you enjoy..
Oh man
The playlist is all gone!!!
still
there??? i can see it?
I think i might be the minority here
Don't get me wrong, I love Detroit Techno, Eurobeat, Chicago/Acid House etc but Minimal is just a bit boring and white..kinda like Dubstep which is less boring, but still incredibly white bread ketamine music.
I spent the whole night at Mulletover waiting for the bloody tunes to drop but they never did. Just a kick drum with a few metallic synth noises every 2 bars.
are you simon reynolds?
http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/musicblog/2009/mar/05/wonky-ketamine-dubstep-zomby
lol at ketamine music hahaha
I genraly like a bit of fuck and swing in my dance music and some minimal does that but yeah some of it is a bit riggid.
The minimalness of it all kills it though because its all so subtle it builds loads of tention and takes you with it.
there is good stuff and bad stuff about some of it is a bit cliche now but that happens with all genres eventualy.
.
Afraid not, i've read several of his books though. I shall have a read of that article.
This thread is over a year old!
Happpy days.
Anyone else pretty let down by the new Field album?
Belated happy birthday to the minimal thread to end all minimal threads
is anyone going to see Pantha Du Prince do a live set at the Arches on June 5th? I got a ticket yesterday, pretty damn psyched for it. Shackleton is playing live too. Yes boss!
Holy crap
I didn't know about that, same night as Dan Deacon - could I manage both I wonder.
I'd imagine you could, I'm sure that both Pantha and Shackleton
will be on fairly late, or at least late enough for you to be able to hit both.
I've not bothered getting the Field's new one for some reason, despite playing the previous record loads. I don't know why. Having read several reviews I get the impression that it's basically the same, but not quite as good. I'll probably give it a go soon though.
I've been listening to Murmur quite a bit recently, wonderful stuff.
it is very good!
apart from track 2, the rest is as good but slightly different. check it!!
I just played it for the first time and really enjoyed it...
Its got a slightly different feel to the first album, but essentially quite similar. I can see myself really enjoying it after a few listens.
sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit
nice bumping
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQTi2JjbgeU
It's Ricardo time again!!!
The new Koze record is neither minimal nor techno but its fucking awesome. He's going on some ricardo flex with the awesome weirdness.
i take it you'll be going at the weekend then?
im really tempted but i dont think i can put up with the crush as it will be more rammed than ever 'specially with raresh in the mix..
Yeah it was actually stupid
how busy it was last time. I think i'm not actually going to go until about 6/7 this time though. He only starts playing the real good shit a couple of hours into his set anyway.
yeah
totally. i was annoyed last time as i left around 8 annd missed all sorts of goodness like minimoonstar for one, definitely worth waiting till late..
Ramadanman has almost gone techno
check how lush this is
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFd63W_bTx4
he's doing some house tempo stuff as well under a diffrent name, some of it is on the new Aus Music compilation / Mix. Rama may or may not be Pearson Sound who knows...
http://www.simplerecords.co.uk/#/releases/69

nice one fella
the mix looks nice I've got it on DL and bookmarked ya blog. Nice to see TVO on there I've got some super fresh bits from him at the moment, really hypnotic techno.
anyone seen Hawtins new device?
its not as exciting as THE CUBE!!! or making Magda make the tea but its alright.
He has a plug-in to his DJ set up that tweets what he is playing at a gig to his twitter...
http://twitter.com/rhawtin
The only interesting thing about that
is you get to see how badly tagged his Mp3s are.
Levon Vincent is fantastic.
His RA mix is superb. I've really been listening to alot of rough underground US House stuff recently. Jus Ed, Levon Vincent, Omar-S, Kyle Hall... All amazing.
you might like this

there are a load of other mixes of mine online at http://www.nickcraddock.co.uk/inthemix1.html (and the second page). some of it probably falls into the 'minimal' bracket, though i avoid using the term these days as it's associated with so much toss.
actually
these are pretty essential IMO:

Would love some feedback so let me know what you think x
Thanks so much for putting this together
I was thinking just yesterday that I need to get some more minimal techno.
I love how this builds up to Kaballe und Liebe - Una Y Nada which is very fine. Then tracks which particularly grabbed me were Oxia - Sun Step, Gorge Dubnitzky -Smile in My and the last one, the Ben Klock remix of Ellen Allien & Apparat - Jet, which is such a wonderful ending.
I'm a big fan of Ben Klock. It was Fuzzy_Dunlop who put me onto him.
mate thank you for your kind words
I trust you've herad Klock's album? so good. one of the best of the year imo..
yeah im a big fan of Smile In My especially, when you can really hear the bass it sounds massive too..
'One' is indeed an excellent album
As you like it as well, it would be cool if you could add your approval with a ^this at the following:

so far it's just Polko and me
Apparently Ben Klock played the Goethe Instit, London last night. I'm sorry I missed that. I too must go to Berghain sometime. I used to go to Berlin every week at one time; so many missed opportunities.
yeah didnt he do that berlin wall soundtrack thing or something?
sounded like it could be quite interesting. needless to say we never bothered to sort out going.
Was just thinking yesterday that someone ought to resurrect this thread, good work
Looking forward to hearing your mix Vian, especially that Ben Klock remix of Allien & Apparat, which I can imagine is fantastic. At the moment it's one of my main ambitions to make it through the doors of Berghain/Panorama Bar at some point in the fairly near future.
I've been listening to a lot of techno-influenced stuff lately, that kind of skirts around its edges - you heard the new EP by TVO on Highpoint Lowlife? It's absolutely amazing, all driven by a relentless 4/4 but really pretty at the same time.
Bit of a JAG: http://closebracket-openbracket.blogspot.com/2009/11/tvo-starry-wisdom-highpoint-lowlife.html
Peverelist's album is looking to be more tech-y than ever before as well, which is good news indeed...
I'm off to Berlin in the morning
Grizzly Bear & St Vincent @ Postbahnhof tomorrow night, Watergate & Panoramabar on Friday. Villalobos is at Berghain on Sunday morning/afternoon but I don't think I'm going to be abke to make that. Got to get the next AD finished tonight, then that's me done for the week. Make sure you get to Berghain soon - you really won't regret it.
I'm going at the weekend for the first time!
gonna hopefully get into berghain on saturday night.. hopefully! whos at watergate on friday? man there is so much to be done and not enough time..
Watergate on Friday is
Audiofly and Eddie Richards. Dress warm on Saturday night: it's cold out there, and the Berghain is one loooooooong queueing experience. Worth it, though!
yeah so i hear. and obviously we have to get let in
i trust you read this? really interesting..

Argh, jealous of you both
Having to make do with Peverelist in a tiny club in Bristol this weekend. Hardly a bad compromise (at all, as he's ace) but it ain't Berghain...
I'd read that RA article before, really makes the entire thing sound like some kind of mythical experience - how hard actually is it to get through the doors? The idea of Villalobos at Berghain makes me want to cry a little, I was listening to The Au Harem D'Archimede on the way to work today. So, so good.
accidentally saw peverilist a few months back, really great!
I really love TVO but have not heard that yet
i will get on it.. Berlin this weekend for me! cant wait.
Really tight mix you've done there Vian, sounds great, flows superbly, yeah top marks.
on the dl!
look forward to listening to it the track list looks very nice indeed.
and as for more minimal recomendations as the thread suggests...

I saw Levon Vincent on Saturday.
Unquestionably the best DJ set i've seen all year. Raw uncomprimising basement house of the highest order. When he dropped his own 'Late Night Jam' it was the most i've seen a crowd go off all year.
I other news I did a mix I think I already posted. Sombre house vibes:

really wanted to go to Levon Vincent on saturday
gutted I missed it. I've picked up a few of his 12"s, love that remix he did of Mike Dehnert as well.
newworldaquarium and Surgeon (three times!) was a lot of fun on Friday at Corsica. On a minimal note, I picked this fellow http://www.phonicarecords.com/product/view/59777 up a month or two ago, slow-building warmth
I wanted to go to that?
Was it good? Did you see Patrice Scott?
Yes, but not the whole set, what I did see was great though
I was spending my time flitting between the two rooms at various points, as I usually tend to do. NWAQ was magic, so good.
Surgeon was fantastic too - so heavy. Although at one point we went out the room for 5 minutes then came back in and he was playing Zomby, Rustie etc., which was something of a change after an hour plus of relentlessly heavy techno. Which was cool. Then it went back into the techno again. Felt like I had a fractured skull the next day.
nice one dreams ill check this out!
Ah this mix is good.
I didn't expect that Lil Silvia track. It came out of nowhere!
also, if anyone is wondering what to do on the last friday before chrimbo
come and check this out! i should be able to get you on a 5 quid guest list if you're up for it.. me and terry francis are playing, what more could you want! (probably alot more to be honest but hey, itll be fun.)
