Classic DiS bands...
So, been pondering this for a while, and perhaps one for the oldskool readers...
Which bands do you think are 'Classic' DiS bands?
ie - heavily covered by the writing staff back in the day, but really probably weren't that groundbreaking (thinking about you here, My Vitriol)...
or obsessed over by the community...
or frankly, just overly covered to the point of 'if they shit, it's a news story' - aka Radiohead.
My list:
Idlewild
Reuben
Bright Eyes
Radiohead
Various post-rock bands
Chris T-T?
etc etc
let me know...

Back in the day...
Every other post seemed to be about the Cooper Temple Clause.
I remember the Kinesis/Reuben/Miss Black America DiS tour being big news at the time as well.
add to your list
Biffy Clyro
Mclusky
Cat Power
Jeniferever used to be

RIVAL SCHOOLS
Youthmovies surely
I remember having 'hurrah another year' before I started DiSing. I had always thought of it as a fairly interesting few songs with a kick ass 65dos remix attached. It wasn't until I came on here that I was made aware that they were the second coming and that 'Good Nature' was being heralded as the best thing to arrive in music since forever.
ThisGirl? tHISGIRL? thisGIRL
Well, whatever, i remember they got a fair bit of coverage.
Don't forget
It should be iDLEWiLD.

if you don't like these, you're not getting in!
Bloc Party are in there
because, apart from anything else, there was an article and an email to the mailing list telling everyone to buy "Silent Alarm" and stand up for independent music.
This rings a bell.
I might have heard it from an other forum though.
CAY!!
Old skool!
I've been here awhile
Well, the DiS bands, hmm:
They're the bands on the label of course ...always in the news, rarely/never reviewed (fair enough) YMSS, Jeniferforever, etc
Favs that never quite made it: iLT, Blood Red Shoes, Jet Plane Landing, Mclusky, Longwave, Nine Black Alps, Amusement Parks on Fire
Favs that did: Los Camps! Muse
...It seems there was always a better American band that they sounded like... exceptions, of course (LC, Mclusky, APOF).
I remember wishpig talking me into getting a Less Than Jake album. Eek. Biffy Clyro was a gigantic disappointment. Ditto the Cribs.
There was all those emo threads I used to ignore. One good band in the lot (BE) isn't good. We all talked about how much we hated american emo and then everybody big-upped MMISL, the Brit equivalent, I didn't get that.
Jared used to hype an unsigned Arctic Monkeys all the time...remember him? I'll bet sean's kicking himself for missing that boat, eh.
A DiS board member found Arcade Fire before PF's 9.7 did. That was cool.
PF usually makes the right call (eg Mars Volta) but every so often it's the other way 'round (Hello Black Kids!). DiS reviews give added favor to many mediocre Brit bands. Field Music is good, but 10/10 good? I don't think so.
For all Brainlove's love of weirdness, he turned us on to a lot of great bands. Patrick Wolf, Liars etc. some notsa great Polysics.
Fullerov for Mountain Goats. Lyle for Mahogany. But these aren't really DiS bands like, say, Maximo Park is.
In Colin's time, DiS had more love of indie-pop and in Mike's time we get more guitar rawk love. The boards mostly mirror the latest PF review.
In general, I find the DiS reviews to be more and more reliable. A board consensus of American hating Brits to be able to pick the best American bands (like PF picks the best Brit bands).
I dunno, I'm rambling. Fuck it, I can't be arsed to edit this.
