Me: At The Drive In.
Yes yes, I know I'm years behind but I've just fallen in love.
its really dull. again.
I've just downloaded:
Sage Francis - Personal Journals
Nina Nastasia & Jim White - You Follow Me
Nas - Illmatic
Bjork - Homogenic
Scott Walker - The Drift
Tom Waits - Rain Dogs
Afghan Whigs - Congregation
Stereolab - Emperor Tomato Ketchup
So probably some combination of those.
probably the best list of records I've seen on here that wasn't written by me.
Enjoy the Nina Nastasia / Jim White collab it is a pure joy and didn't get nearly as much love on here as it should have done.
Have you already got the other Whigs' albums? Congregation is far from their strongest.
Tunng - bullets (Max tundra remix)
Bad Dudes - I Eat Drugs
Atari Teenage Riot - Fuck All
SoKo - Take My Heart
Shitmat - Happy Ending
Germlin - Key Lime
Parts & Labour - Fractured Skies
Pre - Dudefuk
Santogold - L.E.S Artistes (XXXchange remix)
Yip Yip - Club Mummy
The week's going well!
it IS better than elephant eyelash. yeah, i went there.
my dad told me i couldn't get any new computer games until i'd completed all the ones i already had. Yes, this is pretty much child abuse.
However, now i'm taking a similiar tack with my CD purchasing habits - nothing new will be bought or downloaded until i've fully acquainted myself with everything in my (physical) collection. My abject poverty was also a contibuting factor
Doesn't always work, but it always end up in you finding stuff you'd listened to once and forgotten about, that's actually really REALLY good.
but as well as finding hidden gems, i want to get a deeper understanding of stuff i already know fairly well. I think in these days of mass media bombardment all of us can be a little guilty of superficiality when it comes to music
bad thing about myspace/endless sources of music is that i often find myself listening to just a few songs of a band once and then moving on to someone else, when it's those albums that take a good few listens that end up being the ones i love the most.
Alice Coltrane - Ptah the El Daoud
Don Cherry - Brown Rice
Boredoms - Seadrum/House of Sun + Pop Tatari
And I think I'm going to hit Rough Trade and others now the loan is in (yuss)
1984 (French band supporting Blood Red Shoes)
Animal Collective (*)
(*) back catalogue
Hug the Coast. Discovered it last week, fell in love. Can't wait for Rest and Be Thankful.
The Hidden Hand
as I only got a physical copy of Relationship of Command there. For a fiver! :D
Like New - Deerhunter
Grass - Animal Collective
and YACHT's album Mega too
Simon and Garfunkle: 'Bookends'
Cat Stevens: 'Harold and Maude OST'
i may do so all this week. i've also listened to 'bone machine' by tom waits and 'nebraska' by bruce springsteen a lot.
nothing new, but still good listening nonetheless.
Mayyors 7" arrived in the post yesterday and I've listened to it at least 10 times so far. Fucking epic. Otherwise I have been doing the same as Douchebag and am listening to the more neglected corners of my record collection.
by the way things are shaping up. I think it's a great record. Maybe won't go down as an absolute classic, but it's a huge swathe above the other 'indie' stuff out there (The Kooks, Joe cunting Lean etc...)
Clever, catchy hooks, witty lyrics, good tunes, and a surprising amount of variety.
Counters, Light Switch and I Can Hardly See Them are all superb.
Just listening to all the early stuff.
and the old Komakino stuff to accompany it
& that'll lead me onto listening to Hope of the States > Godspeed! > Silver Mt Zion as it usually does
I got back into Director's Cut.
I'm also feeling this is a hip hop week.
Plenty of Cadence Weapon, Cannibal Ox, Mos Def, A Tribe Called Quest and Wu Tang.
and have been listening to:
sun kil moon - april (album of the year so far)
iron maiden - somewhere in time
sufjan stevens - all of his records
mclusky - their records but particularly dallas.
neil young - zuma
de la soul - in prep for the amazing atp that im going to experience (provided drugs dont get in the way)
