Is such a fantastically beautiful album. By far the best thing they ever did. Anyone else agree?
BY FAR the best thing they ever did - no, they've got at least 4 albums that deservedly regarded as all time classics, and 3 or 4 others which are just very very good
was a bit strong. But it's still clearly the best in my opinion.
Radio Free Europe/ Pilgrimage/ Laughing/ Talk About The Passion edges it just. But yeah Life's Rich Pageant is amazing.
i saw them on their greatest hit tour and they played 4 or 5 songs from that, it was AMAZING
I was going to call you on the trio bit, until you correctly added 'Cuyahoga'.
I love that record. 'The Flowers of Guatemala' and 'I Believe' are also wonderful.
but I'd rank it about 8th or 9th among REM albums. It's got some fantastic songs on it though, and Perfect Circle is achingly beautiful in particular.
best, then all the albums before that tied in 2nd place. Indecisive, I know... :-s
1 Automatic For The People
2 New Adventures in Hifi
4 Out of Time
5 Lifes Rich Pagent
13 Around the Sun
what about yous?
should *not* be in the top ten!
missed out green
dont know how i missed it, its right in my eyeline. Green can take 8th spot
and more to the point 80s REM is significently better than 90s REM
i think the new album made me dust off my copies of Reckoning and Murmur... both are brilliant records.
i advise everyone to go on youtube - theres some full gigs from around 85 on there which are amazing (one where they do a spout of cover songs for the encore including Paint It Black (with an out of tune harmonica solo and everything)
2 Life's Rich Pageant
3 New Adventures
9 Out Of Time
---- some massive pitfall
14 Around the sun
i dont hate monster.. i just don't think its their finest work (no pun intended).
Accelerate is actually rather good. I think REM are a band who've only really made one bad album - even Reveal is simply a good collection of sun-shine albeit over-produced pop songs
Seriously though, New Adventures is their finest work...but having made 12 very good/phenomenal albums, any one of these could be argued for...
I think you're on safer ground saying that it is their most under-rated album though.
yes, of course.
with document coming a close second.
has some wonderful moments on it as well though that are just as good as Murmur. Wolves, Lower is one of my favourite REM songs ever...
I love Carnival of sorts and 1,000,000. Also the compilation 'And I feel fine' (of their IRS stuff) has some really ace live versions of the old stuff on it.
They seem to be doing a few old ones on this tour as well, so hopefully they'll throw a few of those in when I see them in Werchter.
It was REM Week last week on www.getintothis.co.uk.
Also features of Lifes Rich Pageant, UP, live in 1989, Accelerate & the obligatory top 10.
Have a wander round, there's more to enjoy.
it remains the only REM album i have on CD. well, i have that and Up which i also really like.
all the rest i bought on tape during the early to mid 90s.
wow, what a boring anecdote...
all of their albums up to probably Monster on tape but have subsequently re-acquired most of them on CD.
Probably their best, although sometimes I think New Adventures is.
Life's Rich Pageant for me too, although Murmur would be a close second. I find Reckoning a bit dull, although I love Don't Go Back To Rockville.
Really do like the newie 'Accelerate though.
and Lifes Rich Pageant the best IRS record. Yeah.
and 9-9, West Of The Fields, Sitting Still etc are some of their greatest songs.
My favourite era REM was Lifes Rich Pageant/Document. Though that said, Automatic For The People is my favourite album of all time ever.
