30 seconds. how can we make a judgment on 30 seconds?
still...anyone got any thoughts?
i've decided that those 30 seconds (i'm guessing the chorus?) has a hint of 'the good life' to it.
I was 80% sure the next album would be a dud, with this sounding like it was lifted straight off of the Blue album (from what i have heard) i'm now only 50% sure :)
verging on pinkerton territory?
is what i'm thinking. that little verse-y/pre-chorus bit makes me think of a speedy 'el scorcho', and add that to 'the good life'-esque chorus...
fuck, i'm getting super excited now! WHY COULDN'T IT BE A FULL LEAK!?!?!?!?
when previews surface that usualy means the album/single is in the hands of more then one source.
sounds good. My day is now complete!
has a 25 minute version of Poop Ship Destroyer. Needless to say it is Essential Listening (tm)
Cannot wait for the album now.
This really is there last chance....
I forgave them for disappering for 5 years
I forgave them for cancelling two shows I had tickets for in the same summer (with the result that I've only seen them twice, both occasions in 1995!)
I forgave them for the sonic war crime that was 'Make Believe'......
So, they owe me a GREAT album!
In Manchester meant I got to see Jimmy Eat World play the hop and grape though.
Maladroit was a good album.
it just sounds like it chugs along in typical weezer fashion and rivers is singin in autopiolot mode (this coming from someone who thinks make believe was good)
can still take them seriously. the first two albums are fun but that was about 12 years ago...like oasis in fact...
Weezer make fantastic pop songs with meaningful lyrics, it's a hard combenation to come by... especially in the mainstream
I might actually be buying a Weezer album again after 7 years!
they deserve to be feted in the way they are. i remember them being seen as kind of one of those Wacky nerd type bands when they first appeared. go on, kill me.
they make genuinely joyous music. That's all there is to say really.
This sounds so good, I can't wait to hear this album!
that they weren't one hit wonders.
3 utterly brilliant singles (each of which was backed with great b-sides....remember when singles were actually worth buying?) were taken from the Blue album, an exceptionally strong album with no weak tracks.
Then they followed it with Pinkerton, an album that was, arguably, even better than the one that preceded it.
Whilst Green and Maladroit fell a fair way short of that standard, they were both pretty decent albums in their own right, each containing some great songs.
Make Believe is where it went wrong, until we've heard Red we won't know whether Make Believe was a blip or the start of the end.
As someone who has been into this band from the very start, I'm willing to give them another chance.
this is tough, i can't tell from 30 seconds, but i do seem to keep forgiving weezer...
its getting in my headd
this sounds like it could be taken from the pixies bossanova album, which i swing between complete love and complete apathy for...
my 2 favourite albums of all time (the obvious 2)
half of another favourite of all time (green)
the greyest album ever (maladroit)
and my least favourite album ever (make believe). this sounds like old weezer but as you can see there's an unfortunate pattern for me.
mind you alone with rivers cuomo makes up for it a bit...
sure its not a great album but compared to their post pinkerton work it is so much better, it has the breezy popiness of the green album but with a bit of actual feeling behind it
i also don't know why it's quite so hated either. while i don't think it's a patch on green (which i actually think is half an hour of perfection) or maladroit (and obviously not the first two), it still has its moments, for instance we are all on drugs is just a wicked piece of power-pop really, and i think haunt you every day is really quite lovely.
yeah, it's not amazing, but i don't think it's anywhere near as bad as a lot of people would have you believe.
