Winning Days

wrightylew [Edit] [Delete] 12 replies 16:46, 9 April '08

Universally misunderstood. The critics all wanted them to fit right into the current mould of the NEW ROCK REVOLUTION, but Craig Nicholls was more interested in embracing psychedelia and singing about trees and sun and rain.

I'm rediscovering The Vines and it feels so flipping good. Skip past the screamy ones and OH MY GOD. Some of THE best music recorded for years.

Autumn Shade (1 and 2)
Homesick
1969

and about a million more.

You love The Vines. Stop denying it.

  • The debut is good

    Winning Days is terrible.

    • *almost as good

*and would be better if they'd got rid of FuckTheWorld and Evil Town

  • Their first album is undeniably great (if you ignore the lyrics)

But Winning Days the album was terribly disappointing when it came out. I don't think they had written a new song in about 3 years by that point, so they were all just stale cast-offs from the first record.

Winning Days, the song, on the other hand is better and more beautiful than anything Brian Wilson has done in 30 years.

    • God i remember that debut being the soundtrack to my summer

I played Get Free loads just after splitting up with my ex.

But Winnign Days never did it for me.

THE most glorious time for music of late.

BRMC, Is This It, Highly Evolved, White Blood Cells. Four albums lodged firmly in my top fifty.

"In an interview on the 25th of March 2008, Craig Nicholls told Guitar World magazine that The Vines will be doing a small European tour before returning to the studio to finish mixing the upcoming 2008 release."

      WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

And Craig's got his good old hair back too.

      I am very happy.

      • Winning Days was underrated.

It had some nice, breezy, understated songs on it.

Not as good as Highly Evolved.

        Anybody heard the third one?

        • Yes I have

Highly Evolved > Vision Valley > Winning Days

winning days had some absolutely stunning highs but equally some hell descending lows...

i agree with this thread in principal but scratch the surface:
