give me a list someone.
I liked that when I went there, but that was about 4 years ago, so I'd be surprised if it still puts bands on.
they used to have a really good promoter who put on Joanna Newsom, Sufjan Stevens etc. Not that I went to either.
still putting on gigs at St Bonaventures.
Drive By Truckers should be good. Maybe they're not as well advertised as they used to be, or I'm not looking hard enough
One of the best gigs I've ever been to. Mainly because it was the first I'd ever heard of Andrew Bird.
1. Polish Club
2. The Cube
3. St Georges
5. St Bonaventure's
10. Anson Rooms
Haven't seen anything at Start the Bus yet. Thunderbolt?
seen anything at the Cooler either
minus the bear was terrible there. I like louisana, and hate anson rooms with a passion!
never been to polish club.
The Junction somewhere in the middle of that list.
Never liked the Louisiana. Gets far too crowded and hot and you can't see a thing unless you're in the front three rows or 6'5".
The Louisiana (until it turned into the world's hottest venue)
Anson Rooms and Academy (especially) are ghastly.
Never been to The Croft.
against the Academy and the Anson Rooms - they're alright, there are just much better venues.
The Croft is pretty good. About Louisiana size. But you can see the band.
What is that?
St Georges (for that sort of thing)
Think those are all the ones I really like.
Tom Hingley just called. He said he hates you.
That'll learn him.
(I want to go to thunderbolt by the way - I say next shit gig)
I am unavailable though sadly.
and Fiddlers is alright, and Bierkeller is passable.
I'm a bit of a fan actually
it's just too expansive. The atmosphere never feels good cause it never feels full.
there (Spiritualized, BSP) and it's always been pretty good. I'm not a fan of places being full anyway. Hence not liking the Louisiana.
and it felt pitifully empty, like no-one was enjoying it.
ISIS there seemed to fall flat. I think it was the low and wide style of the venue. But yes. Bierkeller- do not like.
I think Bristol is good for venues. Sound is usually very good, and I think the Academy is truly a nice venue.
Only poor ones are The Cooler (you can never see), Bierkeller and Anson Rooms.
pitifully empty for Forward Russia. I jest.
I don't mind the Academy at all. Apart from the prices (tickets and drinks). Undecided about the Academy 2 - haven't been there for a long while though.
Anson Rooms has it's flaws but it wouldn't put me off going to see someone there.
and that one good F,R song.
Anson Rooms is like a school hall. Seeing EITS there nearly put me off for life because the people behind me would not shut up during the quiet bits. Sound was nice though.
that seems to have been sorted out recently. The National sounded good there as well.
Talking during the quiet bits must have been a theme for that EITS gig.
It was the older folks fucking talking during EITS (I think I told some 40 year old in a leather hat to shut the fuck up at one point), but it was the students during Eluvium.
It was totally like a school hall though.
Needs to be burnt down.
it is the grimiest, nastiest pub I have ever been to. I'm all for underground venues but that doesn't mean you shouldn't maintain at least basic hygiene standards.
and I'm not sure how that old guy behind the bar is still alive.
he is probably dead inside.
it'll be a nice clean twatty bar for the nice clean twatty people who've moved into the flats that used to be the lakota, clockwork and blue mountain. Stokes Croft is going to be made all clean and safe and sanitised, so appreciate the dinginess of the junction while you can.
What's wrong with Louisiana? :( What/where the fuck is Polish Club?
Are the ones I've been to.
I'm looking forward to going to colston for black mountain.
Bierkeller goes below.
This list is a mess.
Polish club (although I've only seen BSP there)
Way down - Academy and even worse the corridor that is Academy 2.
I really hope a good promoter gets in there at some point
Louisiana (Haven't been to a gig there but have played and the sound was amazingly good from where I was standing, the soundguy was super)
Start The Bus
Anson Rooms - wtf? Note to my favourite bands: Please do not play here again.
right? WHY OH WHY.
They should've played thekla
I hated that place so much I couldn't even bring myself to see my favourite band of all time there :(
How was it?
I'd never been before, would not go back unless someone like TV on the Radio was playing.
The crowd was composed of complete knobs who decided to talk loudly about beer and women throughout the delicate quite bits. The venue was like a school hall, and it's hard to see over the top of anyone (not a problem for you though, Magic Johnson). Sound was actually pretty good. But I couldn't focus on the band due not being able to see them and the incessant chatting.
just to clear this up, I was referring to EITS here. I never wanted to go back after The National. They were clearly wondering what they did wrong to deserve to play to an uninterested crowd in a shitty P.E hall.
does Start the Bus work - wheres the stage? How many people can see a gig there?
stage is at the back of the place in the corner of the dancefloor. Dunno, about 100? Quite a small area.
1. The Cube
3.Biekelller (but ive only been once)
4. Arnolfini during venn
the sound alone does that.
flat out no.
But it has been about 3 years since ive bee to either.
Low stage, loads of pillars and smells of bad metal gigs.
to a gig in a Noodle bar.
I can't remember what it was called though...
not a fan - mostly because of the clientele
yeah, he's a cock.
I just found it on Google! I remember quite enjoying it there, mainly as I got free noodles :)
I just dont understand the hatred. Can someone explain it to me again please.
and the owner was a top bloke.
it's been lsated here a couple of times
I call it sui-cider.
I thought it was funny anyway.
is the only answer im allowed to give, else they will cut me up
is the worst venue i've been to in the country. unless you're in the first 10 people you can give up even considering catching a glimpse of a guitar, let alone a band member.
louisiana used to be amazing. bit weird these days. saw some amazing bands there back in the late 90s.
croft went through its glory period around 2000-2002 - don't think they have so much good stuff anymore.
Cube and st georges are great places but only suitable for certain bands.
thekla is probably my favourite these days, since they cleaned it up and put in a sound system that doesn't sound like it's been punctured repeatedly.
Is one of the worst venues I've ever been to, the sound was so bad.
The croft and Louisiana were good though.
is particularly terrible, unless you're in the front few rows it's impossible to see anything. And the beer's stupidly expensive.
that wants to build flats. The owners of the clubs are selling up as they are no longer viable/profitable. Property developers want to use the sites for flats. The Council makes the decision on the planning application.
I miss the lil' Lousiana so so much.
