it's bright flight isnt it?
it's American Water, then The Natural Bridge.
Malkmus ruins it. Seriously. It's a truly fantastic record, but the really best Joos stuff is the stuff that doesn't sound like Pavement or have Malkmus singing about seagulls and playing out of tune guitar solos on it, in my opinion.
malkmus really doesn't contribute a huge amount for me. berman ftw.
That's awesome. I thought this thread was going to say "American Water - all else is rubbish. FACT. YOU AN RONG!! Man marries goat" etc etc.
But yeah, i would say Natural Bridge, with Bright Flight being second.
but bright flight hits me hardest. and its also the most nashville sounding to me. no pretences at being 'alt'.
it has I Remember Me and Horseleg Swastikas and Slow Education. and its got the best instrumental!
I Remember Me (such a heartbreaking story) and Horseleg Swastikas ("Water doesn't give a damn!") are probably in my top 5 Jews songs. I love the gorgeous Nashville production too. Did you notice the crackly guitar (dodgy cable) on H. Swastikas?
We have very similar Silver Jews love.
I've just put Bright Flight on. I really should get some sleep. I've just had the best night of my life, 5 or so hours sleep and walked about 6 or 7 miles this morning. But a discussion about my favourite band comes first :)
when you're half destroyed and exhausted
apart from 'Tanglewood Numbers.' I think the reason why I like 'American Water' the most is because I'm a Malkmus fan-boy.
Anyway, the new one - 'Lookout Mountain, Lookout Sea' - has got some amazing songs. Not quite sure where I'd put it within the canon yet, much better than Tanglewood for sure.
"I LOVE YOU TO THE MAX!" hahah, that line kills me, it's so good.
I'm a huge Malkmus fan too, i just think Berman should always be the focal point in this particular band and don't like it when he loses the spotlight even for a second.
get the hate for it.
the new one is fucking tremendous. some of my favourite joos songs.
far from it, but never got into it in the same way I had previous albums or the new album. I really should revisit it.
The new album is so good - they're the band I'm most looking forward to seeing at ATP now. Even more than Ghostface Killah.
for that weekend too. and primavera. might do the london show too.
no i wont. its primavera weekend.
"Happiness won't leave me alone says the bird in his nest
Get a load of this fucking view, it's the best in the west"
There isn't a single duff line on Tanglewood (although 'The Poor...' is pretty much filler).
Chickens in the farmer's Corvette"
That song is one of the best songs ever. I've posted too much in this thread.
Tanglewood Numbers and American Water. I listened to the latter all the way through for the first time yesterday and it's so amazing (and much better than Tanglewood).
1) I found it for 99p in a Virgin Megastore clearout about 6 years ago.
2) Pitchfork gave it 9.9 and it doesn't deserve that.
Looking back at both of my interesting facts, I like the symmetry of them having two '9''s in them. It's like I'm posting some viral marketing campaign for a J.J. Abrams film.
"..And every single thought is like a punch in the face, i'm like a rabbit freezing on a star..."
What does this even mean? This guy is the BEST GUY IN THE WOLRDD
Silver Jews threads > everyone.
and Bright Flight are my favourites.
Starlite Walker close behind, pretty much for 'Trains Across The Sea' alone. And American Water.
Tanglewood Numbers and the new one come no where near though :/
