She really was brilliant, wasn't she?
Her first four records are near flawless. Her and John Cale made quite the team.
I know she didn't write them etc., but I reckon that album's all about her.
I love her to bits on it, but then I downloaded the track 'Chelsea Girls', and although it was ok, it wasn't as lovely and trippy as I wanted it to be.
vu and nico, and chelsea girls, what's next?
It's dark, kind of like current Scott Walker. And then get 'The End' for her cover of the track of the same name by The Doors.
that went: "Nico...teen...
She knows she's still pill-pretty,
Even with her dirty eyes."
Every disillusioned teenage girl (and boy too, probably) should own a Nico album.
'i'll be your mirror' where she sings 'i find it hard that you dont know, the beauty you are' made me cry in the hall at a party the first time i heard it.
it's taken me many, many listens to appreciate. Scott Walker is a good comparison but it's a lot more sparse. More like tone poems than songs. The follow-up Desertshore is nearly as good. They recently got reissued as a double called The Frozen Borderline which has the demos for most of the songs and a few unreleased tracks. Some of it is better than the original albums.
Chelsea Girl is a rubbish album.
Speaks the truth. Frozen Borderline is the essential purchase, definately some of the alternate versions are as good, if not better. That 2CD set is all the Nico you need, except VU stuff...
and would be worth it for It Was A Pleasure Then alone.
But the next two are definitely where it's at....for an instrument that veers dangerously close to sounding like unsexy bagpipes at times, the harmonium has never sounded better, ever, than on The Marble Index
uh, i just want to ram my throbbing member into their tartan snatches so bad. yeah, you like that, baby.
I'm disregarding your opinion on bagpipes the same way I do Irishmen who complain about being cockteased by potatoes
news to me. i'm moving there soon though. i've got tartan fever.
Why did I think that? Why are my completely unfounded presumptions always wrong?
However, this does make your bagpipe reverie completely unacceptable. Ban request please, moderator.
BY THIS BAGPIPE FELLATOR PLEASE MODERATOR
His opinion on that instrument (along with the use of the phrase 'tartan snatch') mean he has forfeited any right to express his opinions on the internet in polite company
especially 'Wrap your troubles in Dreams'
WRONG of course
Marble Index is a work of genius.
