Well I've got it now, so we can finally talk about it, eh?
that's so last month :)
I'm in Americaland and held off on the leak, so this is the first I'm hearing it.
this release has shifted focus away from the election
...for me, if not for the whole country
i havent heard it though, i base my opinions on cooler people than myself.
i listened to that tweecore song once and had it stuck in my head for weeks, i didnt really fancy a whole album of it, thought i might start 'thinking twee' or something, seemed okay i suppose, los campesinos remind me of gomez for some reason.
fancy helping me with a teaching english exercise that i'm too tired to figure out?
not only do i fancy it, i really ought to. i've been so lazy with all my language studies lately. :\
Honestly what sort of blind grumpiness causes a man to think Los Campesinos sound like Gomez?
and didnt say they sounded like gomez, just the whole self-consciously quirky students aspect of it, i dunno, the 'vibe' or whatever, reminded me of Gomez, .
i used to really like gomez, so its probably not that aspect of it that puts me off.
i'm going to listen to it again later, and then I'm going to (i'm guessing pointlessly) resurrect this thread in the morning. Be forewarned.
somebody finally has the courage to start a Los Campesinos thread. ;)
It's very, very, very good.
Gareth's lyrics are a bit pretentious, but good pretentious, and kind of endearing honest pretentious
Lots of really good tunes throughout, and the vocals work well together.
and am particularly glad that 'My Year In Lists' will be the next single
much, actually, like I'd imagine the video might be: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tk0vQhxyR5Y
spoiled utterly by that dude's voice.
and now some of the previously annoying bits have grown on me. It's actually great.
their previous stuff, to a point where i like it significantly less, but their stuff has only ever grown on me, so chances are this aspect will too
But the more I listen, the more everything else comes through, and the more the previously mentioned stuff makes sense. I love it!
(my only real gripe are the faux-American accents, although most of Aleks' singing is lovely)
and do you mean that aleks' specifically is what sounds american? because she's from russia, right? idk if she's esl or not, but if she is, then possibly there's nothing faux about that accent
She doesn't sound Russian anyways. I don't know what your abbreviations mean. Actually, I've just worked out what one of them means.
esl = english as a second language
I'm officially in love then.
the same guitar sound all the way through the album really annoyed me at first. it just didn't sound all that right having a very fuzzy guitar riffing through twee pop. but now, i've grown to love it. i guess i'd give it 8.7/10.
The same bloody riffs half the time!
maybe has something to do with it?
In fact, let's just delete the entire thread.
but i had huge expectations, so it didn't really have a fair chance. i tried to listen again with fresh ears, and it helped a bit. i'm just going to have to return to it a few times this week and keep trying to put any expectations aside.
i was expecting not listening to the leak would make my first listen to it that much better, but i think it just built up my anticipation too much.
i had to legitimately restrain myself from dancing down the street a little at the start of it when i also listened to it during my run, which is not something i can say about most records. and it's also something i'm a little embarassed to admit (because it's so cheesy), but it must be said.
when sweet dreams sweet cheeks comes on i get a sudden urge to start running everywhere and jumping up and down with a wide grin on my face. must look well strange to passers by.
old version made me smile more
To the point where I don't really listen to anything else on it
but have warmed to it in the last 2 weeks.
loud and messy and CHOONS everywhere. It makes me happy.
annoying and samey. I think I'm too old to get this record.
It's just a shame that nothing quite scales the heights of You! Me! Dancing!. Even so, it's very very very very good.
i think Y!M!D! is one of the weaker tracks on it, i suppose because i've heard it so much though.
without going overboard.
and We Are All Accelerated Readers are the standout songs, but it's all immense. I think it really works once you've worked out all the lyrics in it. 9/10
Jake from the Tweenies.
but flawed. Having already owned Sticking Fingers Into Sockets I thought I'd like the album more than I do. But there's a few points on the album where it crosses the line a little into pretentiousness rather than being tongue in cheek. And the production is way too compressed and harsh, it loses the charm of a ramshackle band like los campesinos.
I still like it lots, it's just that it could have been even better!
but not really good...
