Closely followed by In Utero.
I live the Joan Of Arse album he did too. That is very much underrated.
'Surfer Rosa', not that Page & Plant album.
'In Utero' is probably the predictable, but correct answer.
by being remixed and meddled with after ALbini finished with it. Songs like 'Dumb' aren't as he recorded them I'm sure.
He 'records'. But anyway, my favourite is Jawbreaker - 24hr Revenge Therapy
the answer is Owls by Owls
is he dead?
i thought it was 'records'
The Blackened Air
he doesn't get enough credit for recording bands that aren't 'noisy'. What about:
Work on 'Ys' by Joanna Newsome
the production on that album is just genius..
Seamonsters: The Wedding Present
Rid of Me: PJ Harvey
Pod: The Breeders
Is just sublime.
Pod is a great lp and so is Sufrer Rosa but i do think his recording technique has got better with time. Like a fine wine. ;)
and Halogen is an interesting one from albini.
i do like his fucked up sounds on lungs too
You sir are wrong.
But you are wrong that Tweez is a bad record. It is good, but not a landmark of genius like spiderland. There.
Shellac - At Action Park
McLusky Do Dallas
Dirty Three - Ocean Songs
the sound of it is just divine.
Mono - Walking Cloud and Deep Red Sky, Flag Fluttered and the Sun Shined - perfectly produced for what it was
though if I hear the album he did with fred schnieider of B52's and Shadowy Men On A Shadowy Planet, i may disagree.
By the way, looking at this
I bloody KNEW there was a band called "CRAIN" which was irking me everytime everyone mentioned "craine!"
had no idea he recorded Brainiac's Hissing Prigs (and about a thousand other bands i really like), but also meant to mention his work on Uzeda's 'Stella' record, that's the one that's the nearest to standing in the same room as the band with your eyes shut Albini experience...
High on Fire
by about a hundred trillion miles.
i imagine 'The Blackened Air' would be second.
his Wiki entry seems the man has been quite prolific over the years. Loads of stuff I've never heard of. Maybe I should start a "where to start with the production of Steve Albini" thread
hang on, thats exactly what this thread is just without the instantly annoying title !
Oh and Seamonsters for me as well, at least of the ones I own anyway.
why he picks Slates above all else the Fall have done ?
a complete twat Mark E Smith can be. Here you are mate, there's this guy (one of very very few) who could legitimately be called a genius when it comes to recording a band and making them sound amazing. Interested?
'No, he can fuck off'
he's an American. And might well be able to punch Smith out.
Rid of me
things we lost in the fire or Ys
Gore - Wrede/The Cruel Peace ... thats pretty classic.
Andy Wallace mixed In Utero, which Albini hated. Albini wanted the band to stick with his production, but Geffen wanted a "cleaner" sound. So bring in Andy "I'll mix anything u want" Wallace. The Albini version is more raw and is better for it.
The Shellac records sound like his best stuff for me or PJ Harvey - Rid of Me.
though I do enjoy 1000Hz and In Utero...
or McClusky Do Dallaswould be my favourite.
But *controversial*: ropey songs aside, Razorblade Suitcase has a really nice production to it, far more lush than his usual stuff, and it uses a kind of dead silence in places that's quite jarring.
