Most beautiful love songs.
Let's not hold back or be pretentious
I will begin with
Talking Heads - This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68KLZCVFDQI

fuck
You must be reading my mind or something. I've been playing this song about 10 times a day for the last week or so. Possibly an exaggeration, but you get my point. Its fucking crushing. I think if I met someone and I genuinely loved them I'd play them this. It makes me so emo, its disgusting.
I'm amazed at the swiftness of the reply
but, to be fair, I didn't throw it out there for no reason. If you listen to the lyrics, it is really beautiful.
Yep
Of course there are plenty of other, as the rest of the thread is demonstrating, but this is the one for me at the moment. Its so good that its depressing.
Quite
.
Tom Waits - Downtown train
http://youtube.com/watch?v=1OLA6AiZlVw
God I love him and everything he does ever.
Oh god even better
Tom Waits - Kentucky Avenue
http://youtube.com/watch?v=GvZK8Wl7RQ8
Best song about young love ever
"i've got half a pack of lucky strikes
so come along with me"
Makes me go all funny inside.
i thought of this when i spotted the thread title
it's so beautiful. i've never heard a song that can make me feel so happy and loved up, yet heartbroken at the same time.
I haven't
quite worked out how the thread works, but if you're talking about Naive Melody, then totally.
It's just a mixture of honesty, beauty and desperation! The song is a double edged sword (and other cliches...)
Slim Whitman - Rose Marie
http://youtube.com/watch?v=4dbiWj6DhyM
Old fashioned yeah, but it's a simple, great love song.
Oh well now there ain't one that's the most beautiful
Uncertain Smile by The The comes close though.
Other contenders:
Eels - PS I Love You
Bob Dylan - Shelter From The Storm
Yo La Tengo - Our Way To Fall
Architecture In Helsinki - Fumble
Regina Spektor - Us
Matt Berry - One Track Lover
Kings Of Convenience - Gold In The Air Of Summer
Animal Collective - Purple Bottle
The National - Slow Show
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Into My Arms
Van Morrison - Sweet Thing
...off the top of my head. Oh, and don't let anybody make you think otherwise, because Maps is incredible.
One Track Lover??
Token joke submission
But it genuinely reminds me of an ex. The extended mix especially.
The whole MASSIVE LIST format
slightly devalues the 'beautiful' element.
But I have to give you 'Sweet Thing' by VM. Lovely stuff.
It's not like there's a limited amount of beauty in the world
Nobody's going to walk into the studio when a band's about to record their next album and go, "Sorry guys, I'm afraid that we've reached the maximum number of beautiful, heartfelt songs allowed in this life."
And beauty's in the eye (or in this case, ear) of the beholder, regardless.
Each to their own
If someone has a spurt of beauty, who am I to argue?
Also,
I have to mention Leif Erikson by Interpol.
I do enjoy a spurt of beauty
...wait, that sounds wrong.
No need to feel guilty..
...love comes in spurts
:D
good call on 'slow show'
Into my arms
Totally. <3
Such an amazing song.
smashing pumpkins - tonight, tonight
?
oh, duh
'maps'
maps is classic
'Look for me (I'll be around)' by Neko Case and 'Such a small love' by Scott Walker both spring to mind.
But 'Saturday' by Sparklehorse is probably the purest lovesong I know. So that wins.
That reminds me of this:

God damn that is some beauty right there.
^er....wasn't that Police song
a sick and twisted take on a stalkers unrequited love?!!
i thought ^^
this song was about a stalker
It was about his ex wife
wasn't it? Whom he still loved in a creepy, creepy, creepy, creepy stingesque way.
...
Pixies - Hey/Letter to Memphis
Leonard Cohen - Death of a Ladies Man, Chelsea Hotel No.2
Elliott Smith, innit
All those ones he wrote. Probably mainly 'Say Yes'. "I'm in love with the world / Through the eyes of a girl."
What does 'Maps' mean?
Why does Karen O sing about maps? I've only just realised I have no idea what this means although I love the song.
Bonnie 'Prince' Billy - May It Always Be
Just amazing.
Arcade Fire's version
of that Talking Heads song is fantastic.
Go and get it.
It was her then boyfriend
staying faithful on tour. He would phone from where he was, and she would chart his progress on a map until he came home.
This is my favourite love song.
Tulips by Bloc Party is also beautiful.
"I'll be your mirror"
chokes me up
hey there delilah
www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbJtYqBYCV8
American Music Club - Western Sky
Floors me every time i hear it
have always liked
Tom waits - martha
The moldy peaches - nothing came out
Teenage fan club - don't look back
The TFC one mostly for the line " I'd give both these wings away, steal a car to drive you home"
LET'S MAN UP PEOPLE
but i'd go for "Lover, You Should've Come Over" by Buckley
See?
you couldn't resist.
But yes, lets try to man up a bit
Breathless
By Nick Cave
elbow - switching off
i love this song so much
my chest hurts every time i listen to it (in a pleasurable heart-imploding sort of way)
i agree on talking heads.
that song is my favourite love song ever.
suzanne by weezer
seriously
The Death Of All The Romance - The Dears.
Is a personal favourite of mine even if sometimes almost reduces me to ears.
*reduces me to tears
Ears, that's quite amusing when you think about it.
quite a compliment
for a song really.
22: The Death of all the Romance
is one my favourtiest songs of all time and makes me eternally ove The Dears.
I never bother with the 22: bit what does it even mean.
It's not track 22 or anything, confusing. By the way what's "ove", hehe.
Tis "Love"
and I think 22 is the age that it dies. I always thought thats what it meant. I quite like the 22 bit, though I really do like post rock songs titles. Just finished writing one called "5'000'000'000 is 5 thousand million not 5 billion." and see if you can say it out loud.
Yo La Tengo - The Whole Of The Law
It's a cover, but it's perfect.
That, or about half a dozen other Yo La songs, or that Talking Heads one, or The Go-Betweens' Quiet Heart, or...
or Neil Young - Running Dry (Requiem for the Rockets)
or Nick Cave - As I Sat Sadly By Her Side
if either of those count.
And I can't believe no-one's mentioned ITAOTS yet...
throw your arms around me
neil finn cover. despite it being about a one-night stand. which probably says something about my jaded attitude towards love.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1FxUqqPc-U
otherwise into my arms (nick cave) gets another vote from me. or one that gives me hope is "on this side" by clare bowditch & the feeding set.
grace under pressure-elbow
i dont even know if its a love song but i interpret it as a love song so thats all that matters right.its beautiful
Liars - Pure Unevil
unsurpassed
I'm bumping this for the night crowd
They're an emotional lot...
Red Right Ankle - The Decemberists
Or...Pink Bullets - The Shins
i like this
for it's sheer simplicity. it's got that real 'beginning of a relationship' feel to it, but also that they could have been together for ages and well, just know each other inside and out
