I find them a mass of contradictions
but clearly influenced by much heavier stuff
beloved by people i knew at school who were massively emo
but signed to ecstatic peace
doesn't really affect my liking of them, i just find it interesting
but thurston has totally always been into big dumb rock bands. byop are basically just mudhoney for a post-internet hyper-ironic generation. or something.
have you seen them live? i advise you to do so.
Great fun live, what's not to like.
to me, there sound is really anchored to 2003/4 and consequentally sounds very dated. that wouldn't be a problem if they had some songs but they don't.
this band just bores me.
however, my opinion is probably influenced by the fact that i went to summer camp with jemina when we were about 14 and she was bitchy and snobby.
they are 'fun'. I know the idea of 'fun' in music terrifies some people on this board, but I can assure you there's nothing wrong with it!
They make me grin.
and I found it to be ok, maybe better than average - somewhere between PF's gushing and DiS's (latest) crushing.
their s/t is one of my favourite records of the decade-so-far. and they've performed similarly with their live gigs.
but not me.
I really want to see them live!
Not managed to get a listen to the new one yet.
They are harmless fun. C'mon, how can you not love a band that sing about riding omn their bicycles!?!?!?
I <3 BYOP.
and be safe with it.
FUCK SHIT UP
is probably the best song they've ever done. i only listened to the lyrics the second or third time i heard it, and by the time she got to the bit about being sent to juvey i was in fits of giggles :)
thats all I know
true story. best band i saw all weekend.
The kind of band I don't need to explain my love for.
Take them as serious as you want, I think they are great.
