for my mp3 player. does this mean I'm bad?
I would say that is fine. I got a DVD the other week which was region 1 and wouldnt play, so hopped straight on a torrent.
in the eyes of any sane person with a reasonable ethical code: nah
buy the LP, then download it for the iPod
fuck paying for it twice.
you're not even allowed to rip your CDs to mp3
its only when the both are being played at the same time its a no no!
Not really. I used to buy cd's of Lp's I already had, and have just come round to the error of my ways. They just sit on the shelf anyway, what's the point? But then, see my 'deluxe editions' thread, and see how confused I am.
most recently with some Sub Pop LPs and the most recent Pinback LP is that they give you a free download code.
so you can buy the LP and still get the mp3s for the old iPod
i like this.
There is another few labels that give you an MP3. My internet died when downloading the Helio Sequence album using my download code - could not reuse the code so had to hunt a torrent - does that make me bad??
Saddle Creek do that too. It's a really good idea, hopefully it'll be implemented more fully in the future.
Not for the SHITTALKER 7", though, because Conor thinks it's a stupid idea.
I think it's GR8.
just have to send me the SHITTALKER mp3s on the sly so i can emo-bop along to them all the way to uni
If you download from a decent source then the quality is going to be yards better than the average home vinyl rip.
Records are mastered differently to CDs. It's noticable to even the "layman".
But not if you take a lead from your record player into a PC to rip it.
Mastering = brilliant. Until you've heard the difference between a shitty recording before and after being mastered well, you have no idea the difference it makes.
It was paid for with Dance The Radio's major label $$$. Sounds incredible in comparison.
but if you're a tiny small indie, you don't have the cash to press vinyl every release - ironically despite the 'indie' aesthetic its something only majors and established labels like ninja etc can do regularly.
so we'd much prefer it if you bought a cd, preferably at a gig, where you also paid for a signed polaroid and mugged yer gran.... we're cold-hearted really but with diesel and space raiders prices shooting up, bands have got really expensive lately!
Plenty of people don't buy anything at all
