Vauxhall & I
Being the obsessive fan that I am, I have to add that you should get all his solo albums, but these are the four must-haves.
but then I'm more into the dark stuff rather than the poppy stuff so
I'm probably wrong.
There are quite a few essential b-sides as well. And don't forget Boxers.
If you have the cash, I recommend the two singles box-sets for the ultimate pre-Southpaw best-of. Plus, it's the only place to find the studio version of Jack The Ripper, perhaps his best solo song. Certainly top five, anyroads.
try punching him.

Go chronologically till it starts getting rubbish.
His new stuff is rubbish :( He's a shadow of his former self.
But, may I be the first to state that Southpaw Grammar is actually my favourite oh yes it is.
is the best album ever made. You would probably love it. Then get Your Arsenal, Bona Drag and Ringleader... (in that order) and make your way through the rest as you see fit. The Viva Hate reissue is pretty good too seeing as it has Sister I'm A Poet and Girl Least Likely Two - two of his finest b-sides. The compilation My Early Burglary Years is also pretty good for this, and features A Swallow On My Neck, which may be one of the greatest songs ever written.
