US Prez Candidates Need DiS's Help
I haven't got the time or inclination to give you a full history report, suffice to say music has played an important role in US presidential politics. There was Born in the USA for Reagan (never mind the song is a scathing indictment of govt, it worked). There was MTV's Rock The Vote thingy which propelled Clinton to victory in the 90s, etc.
This campaign has been different. The candidates are all fucked up about choosing that perfect theme song. Hillary considered a Celine Dion song until it was pointed out to her the diva is actually a Canuck. Well that sucks! "Hilliary," I say, "it's a bleesing in disguise!" John Mellancamp has told McCain he doesn't want him using Pink Houses. Boston said Huckabee is the antithesis of what the band stands for. If I were Huckabee's campaign manager I'd fire back, "It cuts both ways, assholes!"
The candidates obviously need DiSers help.
Obama: "Today is a good day, I didn't need my AK," that NWA song for his core supporters. And maybe AC/DC's "Back in Black" to win over the white women.
Clinton: "Memories" from the hit musical Cats. This seems obvious to me.
McCain: "Holiday in Cambodia" - Dead Kennedys. Although John's vacation was in Vietnam, I think we can count on America's piss-poor geography skills to cover a factual inaccuracy.
Nadar: "Loser" - Beck. Things are gonna change, Ralph, I can feel it!
OK. You guys probably have better songs in mind. Now would be the time!
