Who else is really looking forward to the new gUiLLeMoTs record?
...the "shite" part I go along with.
this band, but themes middle class bands might sing about include drinking wine, eating cake or appearing to desire change but with petty regard for its real consequences
for 'Get Over It' and that kinda put me off..
From The Cliffs was a great EP though.
iT is CaUSe tHEy iZ WaCKy
but I think they're hollow, and not half as weird as they think/wish they are
firstly, I don't believe a word the singer says. He sounds like david gray...
Also, it's like they decide, "ooh, let's put some weird giant saxophones/theremin/random kooky instrument in there" before they even actually write a decent song
And then they put so many other instruments in that you can't even hear it anyway. A big mess with a bloke "soulfully" wailing over the top
Everything but the kitchen sink...
I could cry
guillemots are the most "undelivering" band on earth
apart from blaaast and my friend goodacre.
the guillemots are pretty great.
i've not been attacked for drunkenly telling people they're wrong! (they are though...)
the new album sounds like it might be a bit pants. But I may be eating my words when it comes out.
I've heard Get Over It, and it's a real surprise. Not at all what I was expecting.
they have great production, are good arrangers and have a lot of ambition. but to be quite frank, they just dont have any tunes. some of the ballads on the first album were staggeringly dull, and the songs i've heard from this album (which ideally should be the most instantly enjoyable) are the same; remove the bombast from get over it and it would be a belle & sebastian c-side. kriss kross really has no worthy hook at all apart from the intro/post-chorus bit.
i also really dislike fyfe dangerfield's voice, though that's just purely personal taste really
You people are wrong. Guillemots are well ace!
the sum total, of their musical output consist of only two okayish tunes and one brilliant song in "love song #43"
Saw them @Astoria and really enjoyed the show.
But I can definitely see why they likened to the taste of Marmite: I often find myself questioning why when prompted I say "I like 'em" when all factual evidence hereunder contradicts such a view. So why on heaven's earth do they seem/appear so popular? Well, I don't know the full answer to this conundrum but after extensive research two striking things became oh so apparent:
1) Oddly! They are adored/respected amongst their peers (and or their Wags) they are a "bands band" (And Spookyelec you are so right with belle & Seb' comparison) as:
2) They both share this kind of secret society fanbase which consists within it's make the loyal devoted type who come-over all sepia like, at the very mention of either bands name. All this fueled and cock-tailed with the killer ingredient Interweb Anoraks and Tastemakers.
Worry not good folk and all! those who care will no doubt be hearing a lot more from Guillemots throughout the rest of this year. - Well! providing the new LP doesn't sucks my B*g ones :O
'Through The Windowpane' is full of incredible songs from start to finish. I can't really fault it, it's just how I want an album of that ilk to sound. Not sure about the new song, it's not even close to being as good as Trains To Brazil.
Their first album was great but they've now gone very pop..
she also likes newton faulkner
Newton Faulkner annoys me. The last Guillemots album wasn't good.
