i put forward the case for "mr grieves"- tv on the radio. what does everyone else think?
rated Futureheads version of Hounds of Love.
Also Cud's Bohemian Rhapsody is as big an improvement on an original as it's possible to achieve.
tools version of no quarter comes to mind.. and squarepushers version of love will tear us apart. though it's not particularly original
How Soon Is Now?
Incalculably better than the original.
very obvious choice but it definitely deserves a place on this list
"Don't Let It Bring You Down"
Also, The Decemberists - Human Behaviour
is the best version of Ceremony.
I'd like to nominate Yo La Tengo 'You Can Have It All'.
Pet Shop Boys "Always on my mind"
Ceremony - Galaxie 500
Dont Let Our Youth Go To Waste - Galaxie 500
Listen the Snow is Falling - Galaxie 500
Yellow Sarong (The Scene is Now)- Yo La Tengo
Winterlong - Pixies
But my favourite is probably The Breeders version of Happiness is a Warm Gun. To even think of covering would seem like a stupid idea, but they pull it off so very very well...
to construct sentences has withered..
but do we have to have it every day?
when trying to find different songs with the same from that thread from the other day. now, i can't think of any.
so i'll say, the three covers queens of the stone age did on the 'feel good hit of the summer' single:
'never say never' - originally by romeo void(?)
'you're so vague' - originally by carly simon (as 'you're so vain')
'who'll be the next in line?' - originally by the kinks
yeah. they're good
across the universe
Perhaps not the greatest cover, but the only reason why I thought he deserves a mention is because he completely strips the song down and makes it his own.
Susanna & The Magical Orchestra - Love Will Tear Us Apart - again, strips away more or less everything from the original and turns into a really beautiful song. Not that the original isn't, but I actually think her cover is better.
covering 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' here...
cover of Hot Chocolate's 'Emma'. Totally haunting.
But honourable mentions to Tindersticks take on Pavement's 'Here' and The Fall's R Dean Taylor covers ('Ghost in My House' and 'Gotta See Jane')
