This poll looks pretty predictable at first glance until you notice that Keane are placed rather highly with their latest album.
Now, I don't hate Keane as much as others on these boards, but how on Earth did that happen??!
i just had a big rant about this
at work.
no-one was interested, but i had fun.
although to be fair, that was voted for by Q readers...
Be Here Now and Don't Believe The Truth
were both in the Top 25 as well!
bloody hell
I expect some guy posted news about the poll on the Oasis forums rallying all the fans to vote away for every album.
Same for Keane, I guess.
Bizarrely
Be Here Now (22) is better than Unknown Pleasures, anything by The Beatles bar Abbey Road and The Holy Bible. Glad I've never read Q...
This is so, SO off the mark
That list is..... depressing
Mainly just the top 2.
!!!!!!
wHAT!!!!!
that's Q magazine
for you.
they might as well have put newton falkner in the top 5 as well just to really push the boat out...
...
He's saying that because Oasis are one of the worst bands this country have ever produced.
Exactly what I'd expect from Q
aside from the lack of a Smiths album
The Queen Is Dead is in there
somewhere but not as high up as Don't Believe The Truth (14) or 2 Keane (11 & 8 respectively) albums!
wow.
What an amazingly diverse and exciting list. I must go and buy all these albums, right now.
Amazon wishlist?
totes.

Wut?
Be! Here! Now!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????
Jesus.......
Proof,
if any was needed, that DiS' over-hating of that record is limited to a few, misguided individuals.
Stereophonics at 37.
Due to that, and many others on the list, I just died a little inside.
Anyway, don't Q do this all the time? I swear it hasn't been long since one of these shiter than shite 'best ever' lists from them.
three Muse albums in the top 50
oh my fucking God
I'm sorry
I know this is like pointing out a disabled kid has a bad haircut, but seriously: Verve, Urban Hymns? Come ON. It shouldn't even be anywhere near the top 40, without Storm in Heaven and Northern Soul at least 50 places above.
Jesus. People who make lists as bad as this should be shot.
'in rainbows' makes a best albums ever list for the first time
certainly won't be the last.
haha
and come next week, no-one will remember this list or care much about it either.
normal service resumes in 6 days...
Must... resist... urge... to... pick... holes... in...
list that doesn't even deserve the slightest bit of attention from me or anyone or anything else!
YES! BEST ALBUM EVER
37 Word Gets Around - Stereophonics
The most...
irrelevant list ever compiled
It could have been funny if marketed as:
'The CD collection of your average, boring, middle class, office working, Starbucks coffee drinking Q reader'
...but the fact that it's serious is horrible
why 'middle class'?
Yuck.
I get the feeling...
..that these lists are based on an e-mailed spreadsheet from the BPI to Q magazine details which ones are no longer selling that well...
I get the feeling
That they forgot 'The Feeling'
^ Ha
Brilliant!
-=sigh=-
that album =
massive WTF
* list
oops
Irrelevant
"Two releases by rock group Oasis have been voted the best British albums ever recorded in a poll of 11,000 people."
That'll be 11,000 people with very small record collections and very short memories.
11,000 people is a pretty insignificant number
to compile a list of the best british albums, EVAR.
still a manageable amount of people to maim and murder though.
not a court in the land, yadda-yadda...
complete
piss.
Almost the entire list is post 1990
Everybody over 25 needs to wake up and realise how lucky we've all been.
I know they're usually bad lists
but this one is astonishing. Under The Iron Sea by Keane the eighth best British album of all time.
I've never really understood
why magazines etc. keep doing lists of best British albums. What does it really matter? I suppose it's just to fill the time inbetween best albums ever lists.
For the record Paranoid, Entertainment! and Metal Box should be in that list, among with loads of others I've forgotten probbably.
WHERE
is Silent Alarm?
useless list.
this is ridiculous.
i second most of the consternation alreay expressed. why are there three coldplay albums? only two are really that good, let alone good enough for this list. and three muse albums too, again, ridic.
the fat of the land should be higher too.
Not a bad top ten, considering the amount of cunthole journalists there are.
1. Oasis, Definitely Maybe - 9/10
2. Oasis, (What's the Story) Morning Glory? - 9/10
3. Radiohead, OK Computer - 9/10
4. Beatles, Revolver - 10/10
5. Stone Roses, Stone Roses - 9/10
6. Beatles, Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - 10/10
7. Clash, London Calling - 1/10
8. Keane, Under the Iron Sea - ???
9. Pink Floyd, Dark Side of the Moon - ???
10. Verve, Urban Hymns - 7/10
Could be worse. Its a good job Unknown Pleasures isn't in there as it usually is, because its actually not that good.
could be worse how?
Stereophonics 36 places higher?
This is too stupid to get worked up about. It's like getting annoyed about NME hyping Joe Lean or the brits for having a very mainstream nominations list. Just accept that people are different and often have rubbish music tastes. However Keane did make me laugh.
Remember this is wrightylew you're talking to
true..
Sex Pistols could've been in there.
Manics, Blur, Smiths, Pulp... Those types of average/crap bands tend to make these lists. As do Arctic Monkeys, for some odd reason.
DiS' users seem to be under the impression that 'if you actually like music, you don't like Oasis'. This is far from the truth.
The fact they recognise the two best Beatles albums is good. It shows that despite them not being in fashion any more, people still have their heads screwed on.
The reason they get beat by the Roses and Oasis is probably down to the fact most 20-30 year old music fans (ie. the people who voted) were into them in their 'prime'. So to be honest, it seems like a fair list.
I haven't heard that Keane record, nor have I listened to DSOTM, but I'll definitely be willing to give it (Keane) a listen if I get the chance, now I've seen it so high up there.
...
Agreed. It should be "If you actually understand music and aren't some steakhead troglodyte whose head would explode at the merest hint of a time change - you don't like Oasis".
^This x100000
Sex pistols is at 20
Not worth paying this list any attention, these are "music for the masses" albums
these kinds of things
are just moronic. I was going to say irrelevant, but I think that gives Q magazine too much credit. They're made up every three months from the same artists to make middle aged grey faced accountants feel better about their record collection and to wind everyone else up.
Fucking Oasis 1st and 2nd
When are people gonna realise that they weren't really that great. What about Low by David Bowie? Surrender by Chemical Brothers?
spot on that
agreed
no Cure in the TOP50 !
Outrageous !
I think
that has got to be one of the most uninspiring lists ever produced
