DO IT DO IT
and it's already racked up around 35 plays on my itunes
ON A STICK
Good to listen to in horrible weather like this! I like their sound, not sure about the lead singer's voice yet.
Anyway, yes, why not?
fantastic album. Do bear in mind it's pop music, then get over it, then love it.
I say bother. As far as straightforward US indie rock goes, their album is a good time. It's no classic but has 3 or 4 really ace tunes on it.
if you find it good or not...
nothing mind blowing thought.
onward andf upwards in discovering new music. Surely all their Dads are execs at Capitol............
I haven't listened to them yet. I was canvassing opinion as to whether it is worth my while DRAGGING UP hypem.com and going through the MASSIVE ARSE ACHE of typing their name in.
according of all the hype on the blogs for the last 6 months...
According to me they're boring...
bottom of the page innit.
also if you don't know about luisterpaal yet you should....
And they sound like they should be sound tracking a Hawaiian pool party.
I would. But thank you anyway.
...and click on the album - hey presto!
though it does all sound like 'Naked' (? or is it Nude) by Talking Heads...which puts an end to this talk of originality
it's a great album, the so-so songs have become favourites after a few extra listens. They sound like Paul Simon mixed with the Strokes. The best intro to them would probably be to watch the A-Punk video on Youtube or something.
Check out the Day Trotter Session they did. That’s pretty fun.
8/10. Worth getting.
I liked it and I don't even like indie schmindie
someone should buy an album because someone who likes it listened to it a massive THREE TIMES in the fortnight after buying it?
no classic though.
Which is more than I thought of them last time this thread came around a couple of days ago. I just can't take it off rotation. I don't expect everyone to like it though.
The thing is I flippin' love African music and these guys do it really well. Although only a few tracks have that East African vibe the sound is all over the record. It's just nice to see that kind of music being taken seriously by indie people these days. I also like the fact that they takle any criticsm of their Ivy League background head on by singing about it.
or at least most instant?
(cheers for that free site tip off!)
it sounds like talking heads, gracelands by paul simon and...something else i can't put my finger on...it's really...um, relaxing?
Mansard Roof or Oxford Comma but they are all good. The only two I didn't warm to at first were Walcott and I Stand Corrected, possibly because they are the most 'indie'.
Seriously, just get it and stick it on in your car on a sunny day and just appreciate the simplicity of it. Less is more.
that's it, yeah.
they have a fantastic sound...it's quite beautiful but i don't think the tunes are strong enough to be 'pop'.
