is that what im thinking of? is alive. something like that
basinski's disintegration loops
amazing stuff. cool story behind it too....
Utterly amazing album, going to be a classic like Global Communication's '76:14' (also recommended). I generally abhor the use of the word exquisite, but it accurately describes the level of production on these tracks. Headphone ear candy at its absolute finest, and a wonderful album to relax to - 'Moonbathing' especially.
Sakura - Susumu Yokota
Strangely Isolated Place - Ulrich Schnauss
generally lush as fuck
The Blue Moods Of Spain
quiet is the new loud
Aphex Twin ambient works I (and II)
hammock - raising your voice trying to stop an echo.

and Kompakts Pop Ambient compilations.
'The Unsigned Pirates' are a nice acousticy type outfit, would give you the link but cant get on Myspace in work, AGGHH!!
Made by one of the guys from Yndi Halda
but try his 'temple IV' album, recorded after kipping overnight on top of an aztec pyramid in the guatemalan rainforest.
silver apples' stuff
Discreet music is my favourite and the original 'ambient' album so really you should half is 30 minutes of keyboard lushness which will probably sound familiar to fans of Boards of Canada and the other is a unique deconstruction of Pachalbel's Canon which really only sounds like the source material for about 10 seconds (of 25 minutes) so no unnecessary 'All Together Now' associations.
Another vote too for Ambient 1: Music For Airports - his most celebrated ambient album and Ambient 4: On Land.
And if you enjoy that then graduate to Stars of the Lid.
The Album Leaf
Forest City Lovers
His 'Walls' album from last year is gorgeous.
Yume Bitsu- I know, its a bit EITS-y but its also a bit M83-y so worth a look.
Hlemmur by Sigur Ros for a nice surprise.
It's real "drink and smoke on your own" music. It's what i'm doing just now, only with pretend smoking and i'm drinking mint tea.
