i saw them recently at the old blue last. they are not very good. they have spent more time arranging onstage fairylights when they should have been writing music.
no i am not.
the lyrics are BAD.
i think the lyrics to Run To Your Grave are fucking brilliant. to be honest, that's the only song that i could really hear the lyrics to anyway. apart from the opening "i want almost anything and i get almost anything i want" song, which i don't really see as bad lyrics
listen to Ex Models or Black Lips instead.
youre a fucking retard and i dont like you anymore
listen to the bay city rollers instead.
Black Lips are way more fun, on record at least - maybe if The Mae Shi had bothered playing up north, instead of playing London about 50 times, I'd have seen them and fallen in love. But they didn't, so they can shit off.
black lips are quite fun live
I suppose I meant more that they're like a cross between the two, they've got spazzy moments and moments of out and out punk - I just don't think the two compliment each other that well, so I rather listen to one or t'other, which Ex Models and Black Lips represent.
i getcha. i still dont think the mae shi ever sound like the black lips tho. theyre doing a proper uk tour later this year, so see them then and realise that youre a sillypudding
Fucking incredible they were too.
thought the Mai shi were really good. Did you catch Antlers who were on first?
as a person who likes them but isn't a superfan nor nothing:
started 2004ish or something, made Terrorbird, a completely awesome fucked up punk/electronic record. made a few other records in a similar vein. one or two of them left to be in Gowns, who, live at least, are fucking incredible.
now they've actually got a record label in england, moshi moshi, and theyre releasing their new album HLLYH, which has some really really good indie pop on it, like Run To Your Grave, along with some more hardcore stuff like olden times (i assume, judging by their live shows recently)
live theyve played about 7 london shows recently - continuous streams of joyous singalong vocals and spazzy hardcore, with synthbits and stuff. incredibly happy band, shit hot musicianship. very stage directed live show with bits where they play with lighting and costumes. quite a lot likeLes Savy Fav really.
But yeah. this^ (although I rilly rilly rilly love them, despite not having the most extensive No! Ledge!)
At first they were all like RAH GNAR GNAR!!! and then they quieted down a little bit, and the songs got a bit longer but it was still like WHEEE GYAR NAH!!! and now they are all like POP WHIZZ BANG, AHHHHHHHHH!
Hope that helps.
run to your grave is great
lamb and lion is great
the free downloads off their myspace are great
But I've not seen them live. just couldn't make it. even though i live in east london. Damn shame.
love lamb and lion tooo
in hoxton tonight, before their tour of east london finishes.
last night was awesome
so, you should.
but i'm not sure if i can be bothered. this thread has added to my indecision.
i say GO and i'm using the power of FACTS to back up my argument
I'll be there.
but at the moment it seems a long way from home and i feel like crap.
I'm sure you could have a nap on the way down.
time taken depends on if it hits anything en-route.
what time they're on tonight?
People who don't like them can bum off.
