I like 2:45 AM.
I'm sure there are better ones.....
but theres so many gems on that basement 2 bootleg thing, like georgia and crazy fucker.
Oh elliott smith. I love you.
Nope, can't do it. I love them all with varying amounts.
i only have either or
Without a doubt
but there's also Angeles (you have that, you idiot), Waltz #2 (XO), Bottle Up and Explode!, Georgia, High Times, Riot Coming, I Don't Think I'm Ever Gonna Figure It Out (as yes_ said, there's loads of stuff on the Basement 2 bootleg), Everything Reminds Me of Her, Twilight, King's Crossing, St. Ides Heaven... lots, basically.
and Say Yes
but i really love, roman candle (roman candle)...the biggest lie (self titled)... bettween the bars (either or)... sweet adeline or watlz no 2 (xo).... happiness (figure 8)... twilight (basement)
you should invest in his entire catolouge, you wont be dissapointed!
and he stabbed himself in the heart! ouch!
i hope so <3
new biography on him. I've heard it's supposed to be THE definitive one.
If you're sad, heartbroken, but you still like the concept of life and living, DO NOT listen to this song.
Say Yes is a joint fave. It's a bit cheerier.
The fact that I Didn't Understand is just his voice makes it that little bit more special.
the new autumn de wilde book, its mainly photos and scribblings from elliott... well worth a buy, and you get a cd of live stuff...
didnt know there was a new biography??
the last one was shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiite
3rd joint fave is Christian Brothers. I LOVE the way he sounds like he's trying so hard not to make a noise when he sings on those earlier records. Christian Brothers has a chorus that sounds like he's trying to shout out, but can't quite bring himself to do it, as though he'll wake someone up or something. Adore that song. That's my three :)
I really like Alphabet Town as well.
I think the general 'quietness' of that record is astonishing.
was the last song of his own he played at his last ever gig. there's a video of it on youtube, it's unbearably poignant as a result.
Now i'm sad :(
he sounds like he's crying or something. Voice is shaky. Arrgh now i'm going to go through another E. Smith phase and i don't need that right now. haha
that song is so heart-rendering, and the bootleg version of it is my favourite cos it makes me cry every time.
others i like are xo #1, thirteen, pitseleh, and twilight, and the melody in everything means nothing to me is just amazing.
i say this in every elliott smith thread, but if you've never seen this you really should do:
it's heartbreaking. the first time i watched it, i just couldn't function afterwards. i went to bed. it was about 8pm.
than lucky 3
strange parallel, its brilliant!
It just sounds so empty.
the strings at the end = doom :(
Not even going to try to choose one!
This thread is as pointless as the Johnny Foreigner's guitarist doesn't like me, but I won't say why thread!
I'd better be quiet
with Elliott Smith about 5 months before he died.
He was an amazingly kind, gentle and personable fella and his music will always mean more to me than anyone elses.
Don't think i could choose any one song but if somebody put a knife to my heart i'd have to say Angeles.
closely followed by I Didn't Understand.
or everybody cares, everybody understands
the two songs where you can hear everything crashing down inside his head.
really really like Coast To Coast. I can't tell you why other than the fact that it's awesome.
BETWEEN THE BARS
WALTZ No 2
lost and found
Sweet Adeline. First one I heard, I fell in love immediately, when the band kicks in...god it's perfect.
or maybe Needle In The Hay
or Miss Misery
or Between The Bars
or Waltz no 2
Can we just agree that Elliott is God, and leave it at that?
Just cannae whack it.
Needle in the Hay is my favourite. Not necessarily the best though...I really can't choose for that one.
Most of these songs have different meanings and feelings to me, but I don't think there's a bad song.
Actually, I lie. It absolutely destroys me every time Amity comes on and I think XO would be much better without it...I really don't like it on that album.
remains the saddest song ever written...so Kings Crossing.
And Shooting Star.
Kings Crossing, Angeles, Say Yes, The Biggest Lie, Thirteen, A Fond Farewell, oh bugger it, i love them all.
2:45am and Thirteen
Favourite album - either/or
Surely his best pure pop moment...
but OH so many candidates.
