I broadly agree about the death of invention, certainly in terms of mass market guitar music.
In the face of The Twang, The Enemy, Pigeon Detectives et al it's hard to disagree with the closing sentiments.

I'd say this was just as true of the American scene - after going from Husker Du to REM to Sonic Youth to Dinosaur Jr to Pixies to Smashing Pumpkins to Pavement, its all gone a bit retro and boring over there, as well as over here. I personally prefer current American bands to British ones, but they are still mostly sound like Pavement.
AND they mentioned Gorkys Zygotic Mynci.
What other UK band has written better melodies than them in the last 15 years? nae cunt, thats who.
