this album is really rather good isn't it?
Should have called the album "Spoon in the Carribbean" though.
no-one else care?
But i'm looking forward to it!
another thread on it just a while ago
Saw them twice in October (once at The Social and then opening for The Shins) and am going tomorrow. They're fun to see in person because the songs have a lot of energy. It's good fun music.
its not as good as the singles would have lead me to believe, but Oxford Comma is such a tune!
on monday or next week.
i saw them last night and they were alright live.
they were superb, really really impressed with them
i thought they sounded quite tight but i might as well have been listening to the album.
The record makes me want to listen to the similar feeling, looser and more interesting Dirty Projectors' 'Rise Above' record. The afrobeat element is laughable, they sound like they're obsessed with Graceland.
is what I like about most music - the tunes, and it's brilliant similicity. Really reminds me of great tune bands like Spoon, The Walkmen, The Strokes ... but it is very different to all of them, and it's just so upbeat! After a few listens, it does sag in the middle a bit, and after listening to the album, you do kind of think "oh, it's ended".
Yes, it does sound a bit like The Police in places, and yes, some of the Gracelandsesque bits are a bit hard to stomach, but they don't overdo it.
I don't think it's a classic or anything, it's just great to hear a band that's probably gonna get a fair amount of attention / success that I can actually listen to and enjoy!
excuse for writing it's instead of its.
record. i cannot wait to see it live.
