acoustic amp recommendations

utm_usic [Edit] [Delete] 10 replies 16:06, 11 January '08

hello! i want to play live and stuff but i don't have an amp. i only have a ukulele and a tiny toy piano, so an acoustic amp would be fine i think. right? anyway, i don't want to spend that much money because i'm crap, but want something that will work.

any suggestions? i have no idea about anything musical, so if you're going to use any technical speak, can you break it down into more simple terms please?

also, what other stuff do i need? i was thinking of getting a contact mic for my ukulele. are there any other accessories i needs to buy?

thanks!

  • a microphone through the pa would be cheapest

    • this ^^

i dont think a ukelele and toy piano would be very easy to fit pickups to

    • oh

      • I think

a condensor mic are what you need for acoustic instruments, a preamp will make it sound better and power the microphone and can act as a DI to the PA, I like this one http://www.thomann.de/gb/art_tube_mp.htm?partner_id=59917
bare in mind I have never actual put this into practice

        • okay

so you'd just plug the mic into that and then that pre-amp thing into the pa?

          • .

if you got a dynamic microphone it could go straight into the pa without anything else, but condensors mics sound better for acoustic instuments but they need phantom power which is what the preamp does

            • oh, okay

              i think i understand.

so what WOULD i need an amp for then?

  • i put a contact mic on a mandolin once

    and it was rank.

My friend bought an acoustic guitar mic that sat inside his guitar, and that was rank too.

Mic into PA all the way :)

    • right

so it'd just be a normal vocal mic at ukulele level, going straight into the pa? nothing else?

what would i need an amp for?

you'd think with all the gigs i go to that i'd understand what things did, but NO.

      • Yes

Just keep the instrument still and allow the sound person to change the volume.

I've been to acoustic gigs - I've seen this happen.
