In the veins of City Of Caterpillar, Envy and Circle Takes Square.
Some recommendations, please?
pelican is more heavy metal plus they do not have vocals...
yeah they do
no they dont. haha. sorry. i was thinking of a random song that wasnt pelican at all
Joshua Fit For Battle
The Fall Of Troy
and it seems they are more on the hardcore side... But still I can give a try to the others
Don't get me wrong, i dig Portrait and Orchid (gatefold, the rest is just bad Palatka covers), but i've never had time Pg.99, and i grew out of Saetia when i was about 14. Either way, none of those bands are post rockish hardcore, are they?
Anyway, i'm more fed up of people going on about Pg.99, Orchid and Saetia in general. This is by no way a dig at you, but just everybody. You know you're fucked when you go onto some 15 year old girls myspace, which you can't actually see properly because it's 'pimped' to fuck, and there's some Orchid/Saetia track blaring out.
But that MySpace girl, when she's 15, she wouldn't know shit about hardcore, no way. The genre might be fucked but i'd rather hear any band in this thread than, say, Atreyu. You dig?
P.S. Listen to 'By the Fireplace In White' by Pg.99 dude. Seriously, you're missing out.
But you take that 15 year old girl right, her lastFM will have 546973453 plays by Saetia. I mean, seriously, wtf? I'd bet my bank balance she leaves her itunes on through the night. And then you get the same people paying £100 for a coloured 7" on ebay and furiously trying to find ORCHID shirts so they can wear them when they go to Starbucks every Saturday to get their skinny latte. Then you want to kill yourself, because everything that these bands used to stand for has gone out the fucking window.
And what's worse is that now, should someone recommend such bands in a heartfelt way, or even listen to them because they genuinely think they were awesome- it gets a negative reaction.
Don't blow up though, lets be friends.
And i always feel like a snob when i say "well...infact...". But there you you.
isis would definately come to mind, though its slightly heavier, and more post rocky in the classic 'post rock' sense..
see if you can get 'oceanic' by isis. theres a track on it called 'weight' which is an incredible tune, so beautiful and has some great female vocals towards the end.then if you like that get 'panoptican' too, which is arguably their best.
i also love cult of luna, alonng the same lines but with more depth in some ways.. get 'somewhere along the highway' it's one of my favourite albums by anyone.
also other good artists that come to mind would be Red Sparrowes (though they are less hardcore, as it were, and also pelican, who are great generally...
a history of loose ends by botch
Whatever. Don't get that, just get 'We Are The Romans'
yeah that's the one.
I said that cause it's kind of drawn out and less spastic than their other stuff.
An Anthology of Dead Ends!
cult of luna
sika redem (IMMENSE BAND)
the best one has already been said in your first post: envy
but circa survive and fall of troy do not come under this bracket
is quite ambiguous.
what about this will destroy you
are def post-rock. So what I was searching are bands that build tension with long and bit complicated song structures and partially releasing it with screams in the climaxes. Even though I'm not so keen on long shouts, but still enjoying them a bit
they're not post rock hardcore per se, but they definitely sound a bit more post rocky than most.
most of the bands mentioned are metal acts: isis and pelican
describe either as metal, though i guess peoples ideas of style contexts vary so i wont argue. i would say experimental rock, slo core or something. dunno.
have you heard of the Breach? somne of the tunes on their album 'kollapse' might fit the bill.
a day in black and white? (just looking through stuff)
sounds interesting. Not so hardcore but I reckon there's some subtle post-rock element in their music
very very good band
I always think of them as pretty close to CoC
Are pretty interesting. Not exactly like COC and CTTS but intriguing. Good call!
theres a discover piece on them. READ IT!
when I read the title. Such a potentially great vein of music, though you sometimes end up with bands that do both things badly.
I think most good ones have been mentioned but how about Neil Perry.
not my cup of tea...
Great unsigned band :)
More on the post rock meets the Appleseed Cast...but there's a few heart wrenching moments in there.
I'm completely obsessed with Pneuma, apparently there might be a new EP on the way. Now all they need is someone to distribute on this side of the sea.
Mare Vitalis makes my all time top 10.
so they obviously quite like mare vitalis.
I like it.
yea the is a new EP comming, cant wait!
Eden Maine, though that's more post-rock/metal style type thing.
Crydebris were amazing.
Hopesfall, specifically their album The Satellite Years.
Jairus' first album The Need To Change The Mapmaker is another favourite of mine.
Converge have some great longer songs.
I love when Circle Takes the Square and City of Caterpillar are mentioned.
prefer their quiter stuff though.
good call above on eden maine
could fit into the bracket
what about Yaphet Kotto?
I also remember really liking that Italian screamo mob from the italian music thread, called La Quiete. Maybe not so post rocky though.
Great bands though.
La Quiete played my house a few years ago and the floor nearly caved in.
Yaphet are intense.
Funeral Diner lp is 'bare prog'. It sounds a lot like Envy.
Sika Redem, as mentioned are awesome.
Breach as well.
Maybe try *shels, probably more on the post rock side of things but still fit into your description.
But they're not even close to being 'post rockish hardcore'....!
They fucking rock and roll man.
YEAR OF NO LIGHT
best band at Dour last year, after Wu Tang
Funeral Diner. They're discography is a bit patchy though, so be careful. The latest 10", doors open wouldn't be a terrible place to start. It's pretty epic.
Also, Catena Collapse's latest 12" is really awesome. They're too diy to have a myspace though.
Maybe give Kidcrash a go, they're brill. Make sure you keep to Jokes and everything after, as they were totally different before. Their split with Coffin Dancer is tight.
Also, you might enjoy a few bands from France like;
http://www.myspace.com/jemeconsumme (no official myspace, and not the track i had in mind, but hey)
Kidcrash - www.myspace.com/thekidcrash
Some good shows in that basement.
Some pretty good shows going on there.
Now none of us have a basement.
We all still put shows on, but less frequently.
I am doing Copy Haho/Shittalker/Arms At Last in March. it's going to be SIQ.
I hope you and shittalker make it up north soon.
not hardcore heavy but it has vocals if thats what your looking for
(Two profiles by randoms).
If not then mogwai have got the post rock covered but not really the hardcore.
plenty of stuff. I might throw in this discussion one australian band which is pretty obscure but worth mentioning:
Sea Scouts - "Beacon of Hope"
They're tasmanian and sadly disbanded after this record. But the album is almost perfect.
Should be up your street, i think.
on the more hardcore side possibly.
Definite elements of Slint and Black Flag in there.
Dead Sinking Story etc...
