i still need to hear that
im still into probably one of my favourite releases of the year - Mongoose, by sasha. amazing. also the essential mixes by Damien Lazarus and Radio Slave are never far from being put on. probably my two mixes of last year.. and also Andrew Weatherall's from Lowlands last year.. immense!
Hot Chip's
essential mix is also quite good! Haven't heard the new album yet tho...
these......
Laurent Garnier 'Unreasonable Behaviour' as well as both records by Lo Fidelity Allstars 'How to Operate With a Blown Mind' and 'Dont Be Afraid of Love'.
if i may digress slightly
what were the best dj sets you've had the pleasure of seeing in the last year?
Evil9
Never fail to impress. They are DJing in Nottingham later this month. Whoop!
Kode 9 played some amazing sets this year.
The garage one he did at House Party was particularly great. And there was one at FWD when i first heard the Bug's Skeng dropped and some grime tune that featured a Mozart sample, that was mad.
Starkey, Toddla T & DJ Assault are the others that stand out in my mind.
stefan bodzin
live sets
yeah!
i was gutted i missed him at mission in leeds, but his new york special set that i got hold of is class. his album is also immense so i hear. iv only heard his single releases..
*stephan
rekorder
marc romboy
id like to give it up
for Crosstown Rebels.
Hell yes!
Pier Bucci live at Fabric was definitely one of my highlights.
PARTIAL SEPH

are quite good.
'bere' in particular (i know i wrote this before but no one noticed)
big beats and loud synths, like justice really.
bere
is cool, the scene is getting flooded with electro like this at the moment. not that that is a bad thing at all. have you heard danger? one of the coolest producers to have arisen recently..

19h11
is awesome
fantastic!
there is alot of this around at the moment, but i'm not complaining yet!
Mucles - Guns Babes Lemonade
always gets the party started.
Lucky Boy
by DJ Mehdi, great French house.
I havent heard this yet...
but the Ed Banger stable is getting a bit saturated almost... Cant seem to get to excited about it
I really, really hate that Muscels album
but I'm not entirely sure why.
It's not good.
My new music discovering has been a bit limited recently
due to lack of own laptop, but anyway, I've enjoyed these the last few months or so.
Aril Brikha - Ex Machina, as mentioned in that other thread. So hypnotic and really refreshing and satisfying to listen to what with all the stale minimal around now, which I'm starting to get a bit sick of in all honesty. Obviously loads of minimal is great, but it can be hard work and this album just has something really aesthetically pleasing about it, even though it has some pretty trancey sounds in it.
Stephan Bodzin - Liebe Ist, which reminds me a bit of James Holden. I really like his production and the way uses tension and release.
Donnacha Costello - Colorseries, which is basically a compilation of a whole bunch of individual tracks he's released. I'm new to him though and hadn't heard any of it before. This is minimal in the real sense of the term, just because of it's simplicity. The synths are almost Kraftwerk-y in places.
My favourite Techno tune of 2007 though is DJ Koze - Cicely. All of his output has been amazing this year, even though there's not been much. His remix of Matthew Dear was great too.
That Villalobos Fabric mix is indeed tops though.
Sorry for the longish post, thought I might as well make the most of it seeing has I haven't posted about music for a while.
Does anyone
like anything from Italians Do It Better? I think its "Italo-disco", not sure what that means, but their After Dark compilation is pretty good.
Sasha
at angels 1991.
And then there was house.
Yeah that compilation is great.
The Chromatics and Glass Candy albums are both pretty good too, although the covers of Kate Bush and Kraftwerk on those albums are the best tracks, which is a bit depressing.
Kidda
@ Digital in Brighton. Immense, although his sets are always rather brilliant.
!!!
www.myspace.com/joeandwillask
two young london boys set to be HUGE.
'ane' is in all of my sets.
www.myspace.com/brodinskimusic
saw this guy do a set at my work last month. insane.
www.myspace.com/bobmo
another kid off the french scene. set to be huge. (if you like bobmo check out surkin and yuksek).
www.myspace.com/boysnoizemusic
everyone's favourite thrashy berliners. definitely worth checking out if you like diseased basslines and retarded 4/4 beats.
www.myspace.com/paraone
para one. another big french name at the moment.
word is that ed banger has gone into hibernation for the winter, but they're going to be all over the summer like a horrible rash with new albums from sebastiAn and uffie.
i wish
but sadly sebastiAn is not going to be bringing out an album, just an e.p. but thats ok with me!
Loads of dub-techno
that i found on the Thinner netlabel. I can't get enough of this stuff, which is handy as it's all free: www.thinner.cc
