to someone's blueprints
not just yr Girls Aloud
but girls aloud actually LOOK LIKE they were manufactured. in a factory. that makes real dolls.
though so better than your average doll.
but either way you'd end up with either "technically all bands are manufactured as someone's planned the whole thing out, regardless of whether or not they're a corporate suit"
or "no bands are manufactured as its a word that implies to factory products and you can't synthetically create people".
Occasionally you get bands that kind of fall together but mostly I'd agree that all bands are planned by somebody so to distinguish between "manufactured" and "non-manufactured" bands is a bit of a nonsense.
A band like Girls Aloud are manufactured through and through, at every level (how they formed, songs written by other people, clothes/make-up/style done by other people). They have no real control over their career.
Whilst other bands will form consciously and with an agenda, what comes next is usually a whole lot more natural and organic
really vague n' shit....n' shit naamean? yeh.
But, it's different extremes innit.
For the record though, I couldn't care less that Girls Aloud are 'manufactured'. Someone else writes the songs - doesn't bother me, they're bloody brilliant.
Yesterday, I was ROCKEXTREME, and giving it some serious Get The Funk Out.
Today, I am EMOTIONALBALLADEXTREME, and thrusting out my best Bettencourt impression on some More Than Words.
I used to love 'Rest in Peace' when I was a kid too. And I could never work out how the cassette release of '3 sides to every story' claimed to have 3 sides.
i regard 'manufactured bands' as put together, and organised and dreamed up by someone else WHOS NOT IN THE BAND . were as yer non manufactured types have got together themselves and make the music themselves and play the gigs themselves etc
them what to do, books their gigs etc.
The only true non-manufactured band is one that has only had one rehearsal in their mates bedroom. And even then they're manufactured by their mate's mum, who won't let them play after 6pm because dinner is on the table.
Just because you have a manager doesn't mean you do everything they say.
mine would ever tell me what music to play, i dunno bout anyone else tho but id have none of that, a manager should just book you gigs etc and leave it at that , so i dont see how having a manager makes a band manufactured. and also i dont see how someones mum stopping a band playing at six is 'manufacturing them'. the music wont be affected , nor the gigs, so hows that manufactured?
at a larger level? Just for example, REM at Live 8ids did their three biggest sellers in England, also the debacle that was Zwan went from doing new songs every show and being amazingly creative to 'plugging the record' once they were signed, would they have been told to do that?
i remember hearing that snow patrol were forced to cut most of their first two albums from their live sets once Final Straw came out. no idea if that was true or just bitching fans though.
I really couldn't care less about whether a band has been told to do something, had songs written for them, advertised fishfingers or been forced at gunpoint to support Howard Jones.
I just listen to the music. Maaaaaan.
wouldn't booking agent do that?
but your manager would deal with the booking agent, not the band
not yours obv! hehe
girls aloud sing whatever they are "told"
they brouse a menu
I am sure they can spot the good ones that they are offered
and dont fancy the ones that end up as manics b sides
