Mike Patton, easily.
deliveries, Joanna Newsom
JESUS CHRIST YOU MUST BE INSANE
m ward a bit forced if you know what i mean
or nick cave.
or Shara Worden from My Brightest Diamond.
zach condon is good but gets really wearing after a while
This thread failed in an epic way, I should never have started it.
joanna + newsom = joanna newsom.
do you know what the word "vocalist" means
No, I really have no clue. Care to embiggen me?
ALSO; "A noble spirit embiggens the smallest man."
This is me letting you off for playing Simpsons reference with me... best frends 4 lyfe? <3 xxx
Scott Walker as well, although he doesn't have the abilities he used to
I think Scott Walker probably does, but he's just not interested in doing what he used to any more...
he is 60-odd now, after all
if they are in a band...i'm not good with names.
thanks to you
are you talking about the person with the best vocal range? because other than that, its preference, and i think Mike Patton sounds like a Dog scratching its anus along concrete!
I also like Karen O's vocals. Soft spot for YYYs even though i know i shouldn't... it's her vocals!
More fun for me
That vocal range is amazing.
but not much else.
regina spektor has got one of the most varied and original voices I've heard in a long while. Good falsetto.
Josh Homme has a great voice - wicked vibrato and quite a range too.
Now Regina Spektor, in a thread started about Mike Patton. Give me strength...
Name me someone more distinctive.
'Grumpy wanker grumbling into a microphone'
Nick Cave, Scott Walker or Leonard Cohen. I'd probably go for Cohen.
but i was blown away by James Graham from The Twilight Sad last night. I think it's his accent that does it for me.
on Monday night, I can confirm that it IS Carina Round. There is no better singer in the World. Human beings shouldn't be able to do such things with their voices. It was the most incredible gig I have ever been to. Just her and a guitar. London audiences aren't supposed to react to anything like they did on Monday. I'm still having trouble finding words to describe it. It was immense.
I'd love to see Mike Patton and Carina Round have a voice-off. Can you imagine that? Wowzers.
I was weak at the knees after seeing Fantomas. Patton's vocal techniques are beyond incredible.
But the songs on it are all from her new album, and she plays it pretty straight. You need to see her live to really behold her aceness.
By some considerable distance.
I win the thread.
Mark Lanegan. Paul Hawkins. Mark Meyers. Stef Camil Karlens. Rob Halford. Jizzy Pearl
is pretty good.
listening to early zep it's uncanny how much he sounds like Plant
Robert Plant. His singing on Broken Boy Soldiers almost sounds like parody
nathan wotsisname from Cold War Kids, i do love his delivery.
worst living vocalist, either of the williams brothers from doves....'hit the ground running' is just ouch ouch ouch
is starting this thread, due to the amount of failure vocalists it contains.
Mike Patton = most irritating living musician
you're right - I'm not sure how I forgot about Thom. Sorry Mike, you've been bumped to number 2. You're not even the best at being the most irritating living musician
and Regina Spektor, just to make sure I'm on completely the opposite side of this debate to the topic creator.
You're really like, cool, I WANNA BE IN YR CLUB FOR SURE YE?
but he's got an amazing range. His current stuff is pretty esoteric cos he's done everything else.
Antony (and the Johnsons)
Singer from Sigur Ros (Jonti?)
I dare anyone to get that deep!
was my first thought when i saw this thread.
you can't argue with that.
unless its on a RATM album
You can't do this:
FUCK YEAH MIKE PATTON
She makes all the above suggestions seem laughable in comparison.
and because i love his vocals:
Jim James from My Morning Jacket
And Mike Patton, but I think the real answer is Mark Lanegan.
Cedric Bixler Zavala
Jenny Lewis has a great voice
But really it's gonna be someone like Smokey Robinson.
Yep, Patton is pretty solid. Apparently he voices the vamps in upcoming Will Smith flick, I Am Legend. Bit of useless trivia for you there fact fans!
Jason Mendonca - Akercocke
Mike Scalzi - The Lord Weird Slough Feg
Grutle - Enslaved
Mike Scheidt - Middian/YOB
Wayne Knupp (RIP) - Devourment
Naihmass Nemtheanga - Primordial
Oh, and fans of Mr. Bixler Zavala need to look up, Rody Walker, the vocalist of Protest the Hero. Imagine Cedric with ADD and you get the idea. Watch and learn...
But he's no Cedric... yet!
nick cave, nick cave.
and i possibly panda bear just because i love the sound of his voice.
Or Jarle Bernhoft (Ex-Span)
Or Lisa Gerrard.
Or Tom Waits.
Or Buck 65.
Or Liz Fraser.
Or someone like that...
and you know it
He wins in terms of "style", range, and he could really belt them out back in the day.
or Jason Webley
